About the host
Hosted by Andrew & Katie
Originally from the New Forest, we always enjoyed living in nature. I moved to London for work, later traveled almost continuously for work to challenging areas and extreme conditions, This is a sanctuary to recharge, rebalance and reconnect with family and friends.
Why they chose this property
We lived in Ockham for a few years mainly to explore the area and workout where would be our 'forever home'.... We were booked to view a farm in Shere on the way to the viewing the estate agent warned us 50% or the land was flooded so we canceled the viewing. Still in the car I asked if anything similar could be viewed, nothing on the market but one property about to be listed. We viewed and within 45minutes we shook hands. Many years of renovation, landscaping and woodland maintenance followed.
What makes this property unique
The estate is often used as a film location due to its unusually natural beauty, the David Attenborough series "The Quest for Flight" was filmed here, a more natural location could not be found and it was perfect for the series and quiet for the filming requirements. 1200m away from any public road is extremely unusual and beneficial, achieving peace and tranquility. Upon arriving through the magical Yew woods, our friends say its like landing in a Disney movie, the deer look up, squirrels scamper, badgers bobble around in the evening, at night owls cruise in front of your car through the woods, daytime birds of prey circle overhead. Late at night the stars are incredibly bright with no light pollution, only owls making a sound. Our ancient private trackways lined with Yew trees were installed by Lord Lovelace to serve as both timber extraction routes to the Outdowns Sawmill and to ride with friends around their estate, now part of the Lovelace Bridges route. All our trackways are private and not open to the public but connect to the entire route. Our main house was originally a gamekeepers cottage and the small house at our entrance & electric gate was originally the southern gatehouse to the greater estate. We have hosted many feature films, some with Knights on horseback, a Saxon Village was installed complete with blacksmith for a TV series, the Coen Brothers, The Witcher and Rings of Power have recced for future shoots, illustrating the diverse and magical quality of this location.
