As you step into the hallway of this property you immediately get a sense of the style and quality of this lovingly converted police station and cells. There is a fantastic feeling of space as you move into the open plan living space which is the perfect social area for a family or group of friends to relax after a busy day’s fun in the Lakes. The focal point is the wood burner and its long flue which draws your eye to the high ceilings. The comfy sofa and chairs invite you to “flop” down in front of the fire, while the chef of the party can set to work cooking a hearty meal in the well-appointed kitchen.
As you move through the property into “the cells” you will see solid walls and large iron hinges that held the cell doors, but rather than a cold, bleak cell, they have been converted into comfortable and inviting bedrooms. The Master bedroom is large with beautiful bespoke furniture and an en suite with walk-in shower. The second bedroom is equally as appealing with twin beds. Finally, the property is completed with a good-sized family bathroom. Outside there is a small courtyard which offers a secluded spot to enjoy a cold drink on a summer’s day.
Millom, a small coastal town located near the mouth of the Duddon Estuary, lies on the edges of the Lake District National Park. This former bustling mining town, surrounded by beaches and stunning natural beauty, now enjoys a slower pace of life. It is well serviced offering plenty of amenities, such as several food stores, independent shops, takeaways, a museum, a theatre, pubs, and a train station. Nearby attractions include the RSPB wildlife reserve at Hodbarrow, as well as the expansive beaches at Haverigg and Silecroft, which also offers access to the Cumbrian Coastal Way and magnificent views of the Irish Sea and the Isle of Man. If water sports are your thing, then the Port Haverigg WakePark is perfect. Wakeboarding, paddleboarding, water skiing, and an adventure park are available and once you have dried out, the local ski bar is a must.
However, if you prefer your dry land then Cumbrian Heavy Horses is a sight to behold for horse lovers. Suitable for riders of all abilities, this is an experience not to be missed. Sightseers might also like to visit the impressive Muncaster Castle, a historic castle with impressive gardens and Hawk & Owl centre, a great day out for families. There is plenty to enjoy on the doorstep not to mention that the Lakeland villages of Coniston, Hawkshead, and Ambleside can easily be reached within an hour if you are interested in exploring the Lakes.
