In the heart of a private estate of 30 hectares, surrounded by meadows and forests of oaks and chestnuts, the castle of La Roque offers families or groups of friends a moment of rest in an authentic place under a sign of elegance and refinement. Completely restored in full respect of the techniques and traditions of Périgord, the Château de la Roque is a living testimony of history combines authentic architectural features numerous fireplaces, high French ceilings, floors pisés, spiral staircase in an antique furniture decorated in a modern comfort. The vast reception rooms and large kitchen will welcome you for friendly meals in the castle when the hot summer temperatures incite look cool; meals in the garden will be taken under the romantic covered with wisteria arbor or in many small boutique teak garden furniture set around the pool. At the top of a valley overlooking the surrounding plains, without any nuisance or immediate vicinity.

Well Appointed, Majestic Beauty
From the moment you enter the iron gates of this 300 year old "lady" you will be charmed by her beauty and spoiled by your hosts, Francoise and Denis.
When our GPS had us turn down a dirt road just before arriving, we grew weary of what we might find for our party of 13 ranging in age from 9 to 75 years. Not to worry!
A one week stay, just wasn't enough. There is much to do here and if you please, you can easily spend day or two do nothing.
The home was lovely and spacious, offering plenty of room for the 13 of us to co-habitat very peacefully, never feeling crowded. While there was not air conditioning, the thick stone walls kept us cool even when the temperatures soared in July.
The children and adults enjoyed the large pool with many lounge chairs. The outdoor covered table made a great place to play cards or take an afternoon snack. The kitchen and dining room were both big enough to seat the 13 of us together to enjoy our meals.
The yard is a great place for the kids to run, roam and play volley ball. Plenty of room for the adults to play petanque as well.
Francoise and Denis, the owners, were very helpful in making suggestions as to where to dine, visit or local activities. Jean Marie, the house manager, will delivery fresh pastries to the house each morning for a small fee and is close by to help if you should need anything.
We enjoyed two nights of delicious meals prepared by a local cook for a very reasonable price. Arranged through Francoise.
So much to do all within driving distance of under 1 hour. Wine tasting, canoeing on the Dordogne, daily markets, horseback riding, etc.
We will certainly return and would highly recommend this home to anyone looking for an unforgettable family vacation!

Domaine idéal pour vacances entre amis
Le château est plein de charme et très bien entretenu. Le domaine dispose de plein d’activités volley piscine pétanque Ping Ping pour profiter entre amis ou en famille. On a passé un superbe séjour et on remercie Denis et Françoise pour leur accueil chaleureux.

Magnifique maison au coeur de la Dordogne
Superbe maison ancienne, spacieuse et chaleureuse, au milieu d'un océan de verdure. Accueil et personnel de maison de grande qualité. Nous étions avec des enfants de tous les âges et ils ont tous gardé - comme nous - une très beau souvenir de ces 15 jours passés là-bas. A une demi-heure de la maison : acccrobranche, canoé, grottes de Lascaux, Bergerac et autres très beaux villages.

Trés belle propriété mais prestation pas au niveau du prix
Cette maison est tout à fait magnifique mais ne propose malheureusement pas le confort que l'on peut attendre pour ce tarif ( cela fait des années que je loue des maisons à travers la France) :
- Il y a 7 chambres avec 4 sdb annoncées : 3 des salles de bain sont dépendantes de 3 des chambres ( dont 1 chambre avec douche ds une dépendance - une chambre avec douche au rez de chaussée et à l'étage 5 chambres dont une avec sdb dans la chambre si bien que 4 chambres se partagent une salle de bain
- la pression de l'eau est variable - dans certaines sdb la pression est ok et malheureusement dans la sdb qui est allouée à 4 chambres la pression est épouvantable
- la cuisine est très belle et grande mais n'est pas du tout à la hauteur de ce que l'on peut attendre pour un maison pour 14 personnes ni en terme de "plan de travail" ni en terme de plaque et four et vraiment pas en terme de plats, saladiers…
de plus le frigidaire annoncé comme américain n'en est pas un. Elle mériterait vraiment d'être rénovée
- La maison est super sonore. non pas de manière horizontale mais de haut en bas. Les plafonds sont les planchers des pièces du dessus donc la chambre au dessus de la cuisine est particulièrement compliquée à occuper
- la piscine est bien sécurisée car il y a une porte. en revanche elle n'est pas chauffée et il n'est pas possible de la fermer le soir donc des que les nuits sont fraiches elle devient très froide. Par ailleurs il n'y a que 6 transats bains de soleil … pour 14 couchages c'est juste même si il y a des transats simples le confort n'est pas le même
Enfin et cela n'est pas nécessairement un souci pour tous car certains recherchent le grand calme mais cela mérite d'être notifié si vous avez besoin de travailler :
- le wifi n'est dispo que dans la salle à manger
- le téléphone portable passe très mal
Enfin la maison est plutôt isolée ( donc super calme) mais se trouve assez loin des principaux centres d'intérêts touristiques
En dehors de cela Françoise est une hôtesse très attentionnée qui va donner des adresses et qui sera disponible durant votre séjour.

Wonderful chateau in the countryside
Great house with a fabulous swimming pool. The owner is extremely helpful and keen to make sure you have a lovely holiday. Only 20 minutes from the airport. Excellent local markets and a supermarket only 10 minutes away. Large grounds and garden.

Simply Fantastic!
What an incredible property! 14 of us spanning 4 generations had the most magical week at La Roque. Even with such a big family we were lost in the lovely big rooms. The chateau itself is simply stunning, and the grounds are amazing. We didn't even get to explore some of the gardens! Francoise (the owner) could not have been more accommodating, always on email to suggest outings or local points of interest. I only hope we get to one day all return.

cette maison est très jolie, idéale quand toute la famille se retrouve - elle a de belles proportions, très spacieuse et beaucoup d'espaces intérieurs et extérieurs . Françoise, la charmante propriétaire, est à l'écoute de tous les souhaits. Elle facilite les modalités et vous trouve : repas, ménage, baby-sitter. Mention toute spéciale à la baby sitter Linda, qui a été remarquable : les enfants étaient tristes de notre retour d'escapade... La maison dispose de grands espaces verts tout autour très agréables, elle est néanmoins très reculée de tout...

This is beautiful property that is well maintained by its owner, Françoise, whose kindness and attention to detail were very appreciated. This property is very calm, with no nuisance. The grounds are well kept and Françoise employs a handyman/gardener who is always available should renters need anything. The value is very good for the level of service.
