This is a quiet country setting. Every star in the sky can be viewed with no interfering lights to block the visibility. The endless amounts of wildlife not only include deer, turkey, fox, squirrel, rabbits, turtles and many varieties of birds, but also bears, bald eagles, and porcupine. You can enjoy the peaceful sunrises from the front porch or balcony. Enjoy the amazing sunsets from the backyard firepit.

Please note that some elements of nature are unavoidable in the country. Despite the fact that we contract regular exterminator services for our home, you may encounter an occasional insect indoors, and the outdoors are beyond our control.

Just as the listing advertised!
Our extended family met up here from 3 different states and had a fabulous long weekend! We had everything we needed as far as cooking tools and cookware, we brought our own condiments (and food, of course) but there is Tabasco and mustard and lots of spices available! Note there is no dishwasher so we used paper plates often just to cut down on dishwashing time on vacation. The whole house is very clean and there are plenty of towels in the kitchen and bathrooms! The pool table was great and we all honed our pool skills. It is out I'm the middle of nowhere and it was a bit of a tough drive for our elder family members but they parked their car that one time once they got there and were along for the ride when we went to Harper's Ferry for a historical visit (we picked up pizza at The Pizza Shop in Martinsburg on the way back and heated it up at 'home' - really good pizza!) and to Buddy Lou's in Hancock, which was a super fun night out - good food and great service! Shower pressure is good and the watervheated up quickly and the house is toasty (we didn't get much heat out of the stereo can fireplace but it looked pretty). We also had a nice walk over the hill in back and walked to the beautiful creek area...I can only imagine how fabulous it would be in warmer months. Overall, a wonderful place to stay and relax and enjoy ~ thank you, Janet & Tony, for welcoming us into your home!

Beautiful Homestead Nestled in the Mountains
Our family gathered to attend a wedding near McConnellsburg, PA. The Gordon Homestead was everything we could have asked for and more. Off the beaten path with acres of surrounding fields, woods, and creek, the farmhouse has been updated to provide all the modern conveniences while retaining its rustic origins. We loved playing pool in the game room, sitting outside on the porch and balcony, and making fires in the wonderful fire pit near the most beautiful mimosa tree. The landscaping around the farm house was beautiful, and we enjoyed seeing all the hummingbirds and butterflies and deer. We were about a 15 minute drive from Hancock, MD and a 25 minute drive to McConnellsburg, PA. Berkeley Springs was a 30 minute drive. It took us about 40 minutes to the Hagerstown airport. A wonderful getaway spot but also near enough for sightseeing, shopping, and other activities. A real gem! Thank you to our hosts!

What a wonderful place to stay!!!
The communication was superb. There were no surprises or I wish I had asked moments. I am just thankful that there are hosts like this who are willing to share their family treasure with total strangers. My family and I could not have asked for a better location, bedding & linens, kitchen equipment, and freedom to live there the few days we were able to spend. If you want peace and quiet this is the place!

I'm an original Fulton County, PA country girl who was lured away to Charlotte, NC to follow a dream career. There, a southern boy stole my heart. We married and now have two amazing sons. When my grandmother passed away years later, it was important that we find a way to keep the Gordon Homestead in the family after more than 300 years.

We've taken the last 5 years to gradually renovate the original farmhouse and now we want to share our love for this home and the unique property with others. We hope you'll love it as much as we do and treat it with as much care.

Why they chose this property

According to the sheepskin deed granted from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the Gordon Family homestead has been in my family since 1790. Many generations of Gordons lived here and worked the farm. My mother and her 5 siblings grew up in this house with my grandparents. The wooden floors were hand-hewn from trees grown on the farm. The cedar on the walls in the game room was sawed by my grandfather and uncles at my grandfather's sawmill. There are an endless number of spaces of unique beauty that make the farm special, not to mention the many family occasions that created memories I cherish.

The quiet country setting will allow you to hear the occasional freight train pass through Hancock, MD nearly 10 miles away. Every star in the sky can be viewed with no interfering lights to block the visibility. The endless amounts of wildlife not only includes deer, turkey, fox, squirrel, rabbits, turtles and many varieties of birds, but also bears, bald eagles, and porcupine. You can enjoy the peaceful sunrises from the front porch or balcony. Enjoy the amazing sunsets from the backyard firepit.

Venture away from the 200+ acres of your own private nature playland and enjoy all the local flare of the nearby towns of Hancock MD (9 mi), McConnellsburg PA (14 mi), Berkeley Springs WV (16 mi), Mercersburg PA (21 mi), Hagerstown MD (31 mi), or Chambersburg PA (35 mi).

We hope that your family will fall in love with this property and make memories that are as special as those my family has enjoyed over the years.
