About this property

Restored smallholder's house from 1864 on Helgøya

Havrebakken is a log cabin dating from 1864—one of Helgøya’s old smallholdings, now carefully restored with support from the Helgøya Fund as a designated cultural landscape. Here, you’ll stay in an authentic, living piece of cultural heritage with a fantastic view of Lake Mjøsa and the southern tip of Helgøya.

On the first floor, you’ll find a cozy living room and kitchen. The second floor has two bedrooms. The bathroom offers modern comforts in a historic setting.

The house is located at the edge of the forest and serves as the starting point for a network of trails that take you all over the island. Here, you can enjoy the sweeping views and experience nature at your own pace.

Helgøya offers hikes through the forest, experiences by Lake Mjøsa, and the opportunity to explore the island’s cultural history. The small farms in Hedemarken have a long and important history—many are disappearing, but Havrebakken stands as a living testament to the past.
