A cosy, character-filled semi-detached cottage in Lochwinnoch, less than a minute’s walk from the banks of Castle Semple Loch and the acclaimed RSPB reserve. Original stained glass, log-burners, a private garden with a cold-water plunge barrel, and a separate boot room built for muddy walks and wet dogs. This is a house for slow mornings with coffee on the decking, getting outdoors during the day and evenings warming by the fire.
‘Còmhla’ is the Scottish Gaelic word meaning ‘together’, as home is wherever we gather.
The space Step through the stained-glass front door into a warm hallway. The living room is cosy with sheep pelts, antlers, log-burner, stacked bookshelf, record player and a rich-red colour scheme that’ll make you feel truly snug no matter the weather. The premium double futon can be folded out to comfortably accommodate two extra guests when needed.
The kitchen-diner is the heart of the house and fully equipped with gas hob, separate oven and fridge/freezer. The sunroom extension with skylights and french doors opens straight onto the generous decked area, with a farmhouse table that seats 6, and a second log-burner for when Scottish weather does what Scottish weather does.
Also on the ground floor is a WC that sits conveniently off the dining area and a separate boot room with a low sink and jet-tap perfect for muddy boots, shelving for gear, hooks for wet coats, washer and dryer. All genuinely useful if you`re here to hike, paddle, or get muddy.
Bedrooms Two bedrooms upstairs. One is a bright, sunrise yellow with a double bed, and a decorative old fireplace nook. The second has calmer blue tones with an adjustable standing desk (handy for anyone needing to get some quiet work done.)
Bathrooms The spacious main bathroom has a standard sized bathtub with brass fittings and a powerful downpour shower, ideal for revitalising after a long day or recouping with a lazy Sunday-morning soak.
Garden A private, fully enclosed decked garden with Japanese maples, herb corner, and a 500-litre cold water plunge barrel, available on request, perfect if you enjoy cold water therapy, or just fancy braving it to see what all the fuss is about. An outdoor dining table and benches are provided, with a separate bistro table and chairs tucked in a sunny corner, perfect for a quiet morning coffee or a chilled evening glass of wine. On weekends, a two-minute walk brings you to the lochside Wee Sauna, where braver souls can dip straight in the water to cool off.
Dogs welcome This is a genuinely dog-friendly home, not just a tick-box. We know how hard it is to find good holiday lets that actually welcome pets, so we`ve made sure this one really does. So please forgive the odd mark here or there. If that`s not for you, no hard feelings, but if you`re travelling with your own dog, you`ll all be very welcome here.
Please note — garden pond There`s a small garden pond that can be hard to see, especially in low light or if you`re not expecting it. It`s a natural pond for local wildlife, so watch out as the wee frogs can make you jump! Please just stay on the deck or gravelled areas and keep an eye on children and pets in the garden, particularly after dark.
Location Lochwinnoch is a historic Renfrewshire village established inside the protected ‘Muirshiel Country Park’ on the banks of Castle Semple Loch and the renowned RSPB nature reserve, which hosts rare birds not found anywhere else in the UK. Ideal for walking, cycling, birdwatching, and kayaking or paddle-boarding on the loch itself.
Còmhla Cottage is also situated conveniently between Glasgow airport (20 minutes) and Prestwick Airport (35 minutes). Glasgow city centre is around 40 minutes by car and 23 by train, plus ‘Fish and chips’ by the sea in Largs only a 19-minute drive over the braes.
