About this property

Château de Montmeilleur - Eden Cottage

Rebuilt from the ground up to the highest standard of comfort using traditional materials — wood, limestone, clay brick and hemp. Eden is spacious: a large living room, kitchen and bathroom on the ground floor, with a master bedroom and a second bathroom under the eaves.

Set amidst the breathtaking landscapes of the Trièves, our cottages are located within the château grounds, surrounded by majestic mountains, peaceful countryside, and unspoiled nature.

Spacious, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed, each cottage offers a private sanctuary where you can slow down, reconnect with nature, and enjoy a sense of calm and tranquillity.

Perfect for families, couples, or those simply seeking an escape from the pace of everyday life, our cottages accommodate 2 to 6 guests.

Each cottage is self-catering, offering the freedom and privacy to make your stay your own. Beyond your front door, the château estate is yours to explore — with certain amenities included in your stay and others available by arrangement.

About the host

Host profile image
Raised around the year 1000, when the Trièves formed a single seigneury of the Counts of Die, Montmeilleur was built for defence — a square keep set with four corner towers on a hilltop, commanding the glacial valley below. For more than four centuries it belonged to the Morges family, before passing through a succession of prominent houses of Grenoble and Marseille. After the religious wars of the sixteenth century the fortress lost its military purpose. Moat, ramparts and drawbridge gave way to terraces, gardens and rose-clad towers, and the stronghold softened into what the French call a château de plaisance. Today we are dedicated in sharing and sustaining Château de Montmeilleur's rich history and culture.
