My husband and I vacationed at this property throughout our 44 years together. He has passed, now I and other family return to its quiet shore several weeks of summer to enjoy the peace it offers. I am pleased to offer its tranquility to others.

Why they chose this property

Lynn's family, originally from the Detroit area, purchased the neighboring property in 1951 and built the Cottage, also available for periodic rental. In 1980, the House was added as a retirement home for Lynn's parents who have passed on. In 2018, Lynn and her husband Free, now passed, purchased the property from family. Lynn retains ownership to continue the tradition of quiet family vacations, now offering periodic rental to the lucky few who choose it. This property is loved for its special charm, felt as soon as you step out of the car.

What makes this property unique

This property offers just enough seclusion from the road and neighbors and town to truly offer serenity. There's easy access to parks and town, but the peacefulness of the property can't be beat. It's one of the few places on Lake Huron where the sun sets due west, offering sweeping views of spectacular sunsets. Situated close to one of Michigan's few Dark Park Preserves, the night sky is magnificent. Constellations, the milky way, planets, satellites, and shooting stars are common. Even northern lights make an occasional appearance. On clear night you can see the glow of towns across Saginaw. Bay. By day it's an inland sea, great for swimming.

A short wooded lane provides privacy from the road. Swimming is steps away as the property shares a boathouse deck and 140 ' of private lakefront with the neighboring cottage, also available by the same owner. The entrance drive serves both properties, with 3 dedicated parking spaces reserved for the House. The top of the small hill is reserved for loading and unloading.

The property lies within 5 miles of Port Austin, a quaint town offering a harbor of refuge, kayak rentals with waterway maps to beautiful Turnip Rock, 2 miniature golf courses, a delightful and adequately challenging 18 hole golf course, horseback riding, a destination farmer's market, historic Port Austin Reef Lighthouse, a small local museum, laundromat, summer and fall family events, as well as unique shops and local eateries.

Within 2 miles lies Port Crescent State Park with its sweeping expanse of protected shoreline. The park encompasses the mouth of the Pinnebog River, a popular canoe and kayak destination, miles of sandy beach, hiking trails, a fishing pier on the river, bird viewing platforms, and is one of Michigan's few registered Dark Park Preserves. A Dark Park Preserve is an area preserved to have minimum night lights to allow unusually clear viewing of the night sky. Guests are asked to keep lights low.
