A Northwoods Shangri-la / Jagdschloss Four Mile Lake / an extraordinary 83 acres
This property, situated on the shores of Four Mile Lake, is in (that's right, in) the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest in the Great Northwoods of Wisconsin. The Three Lakes Chain is part of the Eagle River-Three Lakes Chain of Lakes. This series of 28 lakes is the largest freshwater chain of lakes in the world. The Three Lakes part of the chain starts with the Burnt Rollways Reservoir and includes 20 lakes ranging in size from 123 acres to 1012 acres. There are two sections to this property. 20 acres of lakefront land and 63 acres of forest land. The 2200sf log cabin sits on a point giving almost a 180 degree view of the beautiful lake and pristine shorelines. This is the most UNoccupied lake in the chain. Very few lakeside homes creating an unspoiled view of the lake. The 63 acres of forest land right across Old Military Road has miles of trails for exploration by hike or by bike. The log home is amazing with 2400 square feet of open ceiling living space. Three bedrooms in the main home and a separate, but attached bedroom with ensuite bathroom in what we call the annex. The Sam Campbell Trail is a short distance away and his island home visible from the property. If you don't know who Sam Campbell is, take a few minutes to "Google" and get to know him. One of his books, "Too Much Salt and Pepper" is onsite for the reading. This place is amazing! This is not just a summer paradise. Imagine an winter wonderland only Hollywood could cook up and you've got a natural one here in the Northwoods! Snowmobile season starts about mid-December. We've got one of the best trail systems in the country. Bring your sleds or rent from one of the area shops. Access to the trail system is right across the lake. Easy access from the driveway through our small crick-side forest and onto the lake. Nature, restaurants and taverns a short distance away.
In the photos you'll find a short video (featuring yours truly) which showcases this property as a partner organization of the Nicolet-Wolf River Scenic Byway, one of five Wisconsin scenic byways, a 145 mile route through the heart of the Chequamegon/Nicolet Forest. We are at the very north end of the byway making it very convenient for those of you traveling from the south to enjoy this great ride. It is my preferred route from Milwaukee. Was as advertised. Lovely home well equipped with two docks, pool/ping-pong, table, laundry, facilities, spacious master suite, well equipped kitchen, Large deck to comfortable sauna. Each week We entertained guests 227 with plenty of space. Definitely recommend vacation spot!
Cabin is outstanding!! Large & roomy and tons of amenities. Lake view and yard is spectacular.
Owner Steve was extremely kind and accommodating. We enjoyed our stay and wouldn’t hesitate to book this cabin again.
Thank you Steve, we had a very memorable week!!!
We've been vacationing on the Three Lakes Chain for almost 20 years, this is the best location of all. Fourmile lake is quiet and scenic. The décor is eccentric but nice and comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked. The deck and dock are very nice. We had a great time.
The only reservation for us was that cell phone service, and consequently internet, was spotty.

Great place to stay!
This is a wonderful log home, very big and very well appointed. Beautiful lake views with even more beautiful sunsets!
We have friends that live on Little Fork Lake. They came over a few times and were amazed that such a great “cabin” was available to rent. They have told all of their friends and visitors about it.
This is a true “North Woods” destination! We hated to leave and definitely want to return!
Beautiful lakeside home, great view of the quietest lake on the chain, Four Mile Lake. It offers comfortable beds and baths, a well stocked kitchen, extra refrigerator space, plenty of dock space and a very homey feel.
We enjoyed our stay very much.
Spent a week with my wife and four kids (all 10 and under). Cabin was overall great - the host was friendly and helpful, and the cabin was well-stocked and kept up very nicely.
The basement was a nice area to unwind, with ping pong and a pool table. Kitchen was well stocked with appliances and dishes for the week.
The lake and docks were awesome - we were able to use the rowboat and kayaks to enjoy some fishing and boating! The view is great, and the fire pit area has some great sunsets and stargazing opportunities!
The one thing to know is the master bedroom is in the loft - and it’s not very baby friendly, as the staircase is a bit scary for little ones. We ended up giving the big kids the master and took another room, which wasn’t a huge problem, but worth being aware of.
This property is on nice-sized, quiet lake and provides great exposure to the east, south and west! The place has everything you need to be self-reliant for an entire week if you choose to go that route. Very comfortable spaces for gathering as well as individual spots for quiet time. Second time for us there and I'm sure there will be a third.

Beautiful location on a quiet lake at the end of the Chain..
We picked the week of August with wind and intermittent rain, which cut into some of our ski time. The basement rec. room more than made up for our time on shore. A great place for kids to get away from the "old folks" for a while. Our host checked in with us early in our stay. We all agreed this should be a repeat. Once you train yourself not to stare at the neighbor's bizzarely over demarcated property fence line you can enjoy the beauty of the lake and surrounding forest land.
We loved our 9 days at this charming vacation home located on the most stunning property. The home was so comfortable for our family of 6. The huge lakefront footage and two docks made for great views and lots of fun waterfront activities. There are not many homes around and that adds to the peace and serenity of this spot.
We rented a pontoon boat and loved exploring the chain of lakes that are attached to the very quiet lake that the property is on (Four Mile lake).
This log home is well-equipped and we appreciated the ping pong table in the basement too! Campfires nightly at the waterfront fire pit were a great way to end our days. We will definitely be back!
Really enjoyed the 15 days at the cabin! The added bonus is that we saw a bald Eagle family just across the lake. Mom would catch fish for her babies.
Loved the paddle boating, making and sitting by the fire after a work day.
We had an outstanding stay at Jagdschloss. The home sits on a point with two docks - one for boats and one for fishing (caught muskie, walleye, crappie, bass and blue gill from the dock!). The large fire pit sits at the end of the point and it and the swing hung between the trees made for great sunsets and bonfires. The bedrooms were are all comfortable. The living room/kitchen/dining room was a great open space with cathedral ceilings and a fireplace - perfect for our family to spend time together. Steve was a great host and the home was very thoroughly cleaned before our arrival. This property had many more amenities than it listed and we will definitely go back.
Everything that was promised and more. I couldn't imagine a more ideal private lake getaway. The property and views are spectacular, like something out of a movie. The privacy is unparalleled. The most serene, quiet, beautiful lake house I've ever been to by miles. Can't wait to go back.
Beautiful house and property. Location and amenities were wonderful. Fantastic master bed mattress!
Internet didn't work and neighbors are a bit creepy, but we had a wonderful time!
I highly recommend this property, it is a quintessential north woods cabin with great amenities including a quiet lake )on a 28 chain of lakes!), two piers, a waterside fire pit, large outdoor patio, screen-in gazebo and tasteful decor. The owner was very responsive. Boat rental was easy, we picked up the boat and explored the chain on our 20 minute cruise back to the cabin. Again, highly recommend.
Very comfortable home with plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the outdoors. Full-width deck overlooking the lake is a great space for gathering. The home site is really amazing with 180 degree views of the lake. Steve was great to communicate with and met our needs without issue. Will certainly consider returning if timing works out.
Perfect place to get away! The cabin has everything you need. Steve greeted us when we arrived and showed us around and promptly responded to all questions. Very clean and the lake is gorgeous. We enjoyed the paddle boat and canoe. And there are some great local restaurants. Even the ice cream store had curb side pick-up!
We are a Wisconsin-born couple (with three kids) returning (part time) after 32 years of military service to the dreams of our youth. We've lived around the world, but there's no place like Wisconsin, especially the Northwoods.
Why they chose this property
This is an amazing patch of God's green (and sometimes white) earth. After literally years of exhaustive research, we bought on the chain a few years ago, but not where I wanted to be, on THIS Lake (there are very few properties on the lake and it's rare when one comes on the market). Well, after a few years of great experiences at our 950sf cabin, and while thinking forward to future grandchildren, this place came on the market and we jumped at it! The picture above is of our first family reunion in many years, Christmas 2017, right here at the Jadgschloss. Wondering about this word, Jagdschloss? Well, currently we live in Germany and came across this word while visiting a royal hunting lodge from an era gone by. It seemed perfect. We're far from royalty, but the property seems fitting of the label, and we hope our guests feel like royalty during their stay.
What makes this property unique
There are many, but just to name a few - firepit with comfortable seating down by the lake; two person swing hanging from the trees also overlooking the lake (and Sam Campbell Island); screened in hexagonal gazebo with a six-man (tight squeeze) Spa attached to the wrap around porch in case the outdoors beckons under adverse conditions; and speaking of the porch, a bench attached to the railing avails lots of seating as well as rockers and Adirondacks; amazing night sky-I have never seen more stars in my life; the sound of a screech owl as you walk through the woods (you'll never forget it!); deer meandering through the yard; all types of birds feasting on the birdfeeders; nature goes on and on...
