I am the third generation of my family to be involved with the Rolling R Guest Ranch. My grandfather bought it in 1972 and it has been in our family ever since. I am honored to be a part of this continuing legacy. The Rolling R Guest Ranch has always had a special place in my heart and is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places that I have ever had the privilege of experiencing.
Why they chose this property
The Rolling R Ranch is located near the White River National Forest, 20 miles east of Meeker, Colorado, in the beautiful White River Valley. Nestled on the south bank of the south fork of the White River, where from the dining room windows of the Roosevelt house, you can watch the river freezing from the bottom up in the winter, hence the origin of the name “White River”.
The ranch has been existence for over 100 years and, according to local legend, was a rendezvous point for the passing Ute tribes. In the early 1900’s the property was a Fox farm, producing some of the finest fox pelts in the area. The Rolling R Ranch was named by Elliott Roosevelt, who owned the property in the 1950’s. Elliott was the son of President Franklin D. and Eleanor Roosevelt. Eleanor was a frequent visitor to the ranch. The property was purchased by the patriarch of our family, Clark Wix, in 1972. It consists of approximately 20 acres, mostly hay meadow, four original cabins and several outbuildings.
