Perfect Vermont Getaway
The best part about this cabin is the surrounding area itself... a perfect "off the grid" getaway complete with a pond & kayaks/SUP to go with it! Thank you Karen - you were a wonderful hostess & we so appreciate your hospitality!

Awesome rustic getaway!
We loved our time in the cabin and wished we could have stayed longer! We were visiting from the west coast and wanted to have a camping-like experience with our 3 and 5 year old girls, and this place was perfect! The pond is amazing with lots of frogs and dragonflies, and was so fun to kayak and paddle board on. We also had a great time walking the trails. One day we even discovered a huge turtle on the steps leading to the cabin. My kids named it Scoot and considered it the best part of our adventure. Although the cabin feels super private you are not far from Stowe which is nice. We can't wait to return and make more family memories!

Great Vermont Weekend!
We were at the cabin this past weekend and really enjoyed out time. The cabin is just rustic and remote enough to experience the Vermont wilderness while staying within striking distance of downtown Stowe. The owners were helpful and accommodating. At one point the toilet required some maintenance, and they were over in a matter of minutes to fix it for us. The pond is a great addition as well! Would recommend to all.

Clean and cozy
Karen and Eric provide a wonderful place to stay. We showed up and there was a little mix up (completely our fault) in that we hadn't realized we'd be walking up to cabin. Karen was kind and quick to reply and explained there was a sled to bring up our stuff. It was honestly such a great time. They take very good care of the cabin. It has a certain charm to it- warm, cozy, and off the grid. I definitely would recommend renting this cabin from the Nicholsons!! Overall a very pleasant experience! Thank you so much for allowing us to stay!!!

Cozy getaway
Fantastic place if you're looking for a rustic, off the grid getaway. The location is beautiful, and the place is very cozy. Super close to all the shops and restaurants in Stowe, but when you're at the cabin you feel like you're miles away from anything. Only thing we weren't expecting is how dark the cabin is on the inside, even in the day (we had to light candles even in the middle of the day). This is mostly because the cabin is surrounded by thick pine trees, but make sure to pack a lantern or extra candles. Overall highly recommended! Karen the owner even gave us a jump start when our battery went dead!

Charming rustic cabin
Stayed at the cottage 12/24 and 12/25. Great cabin, great location, great trails in the woods and around the pond, and nice and toasty. Close to downtown and other amenities Stowe has to offer. Owners were attentive to any questions, etc. Would be an awesome summer vacation spot as well.

Serenity
My wife and I and 2 dogs were lucky to arrive when the leaves were close to peak and the weather was sunny and close to 80 F and also a day before it was scheduled to be rainy and windy.
A dirt path led to a clearing near the pond where we parked. Benches can be seen near the pond. To the right there was a dirt road leading up to the cabin overlooking the pond. We initially opted to walking up the shorter steeper route consisting of stone steps and rails made of branches. While unpacking the car with our hands full we chose the longer, less steep, dirt road to go back and forth.
While unpacking we had the opportunity to meet Jeff ,Karen's husband when he came to check on the cabin. With no other renters they were kind enough to allow us to check-in and check-out whenever we liked. Coming from NY it was nice to listen to the quiet. The gas lights were nice but utilized candles more when we were awake because being a warm day the gas lights gave off a lot of heat. There were a lot of hiking trails to avail of but unfortunately we didn't have time to explore as much as we would've liked. The cabin and area is as described.
We only stayed 2 nights so we were able to get by with cleaning ourselves with body and facial wipes. Remember, there aren't any showers, but Karen provided some sources in town to wash if needed.
For a sit down breakfast that is close by I would really recommend the Green Goddess Cafe. As a suggestion be there before 9:45am and be sure to place your order first, then sit down and wait for your order to be called. Lines form very quickly because anyone who enters has to stand on line to place their order. While we were eating the line peaked at 15 people.
The one thing that was a little unnerving is what I'll refer to as the strange dog, this is before I knew who's dog it was. I wake up one morning, with daylight approaching, I hear a dog in the distance barking. It's not to bad from a distance but it's barking is getting louder and louder but I don't see anything when I look out the window of the cabin. I go about doing my morning routine. Take the dogs out then walk down the path to the car where I feed them. After I fed them I turn and finally see the barking dog around 2 car lengths away barking at us. I didn't know whose dog it was at the time or whether it was friendly or not so I put my 2 dogs in the car. After a few minutes it stopped barking and just walked away.

Peaceful, relaxing retreat with plenty to do
We had a wonderful stay at the cabin. It was just what we needed for a rustic weekend away. The cabin was spotless and just as pictured. We loved sitting up on the porch in the rocking chairs, taking the kayaks out for an early morning paddle and exploring the trails all around the pond. The location was perfect for exploring the town of Stowe too. Our 3 year old had a ball and is already talking about when we can return to the cabin. Thank you for sharing your beautiful property with us.

Wonderful property in a great location!
We had a great week-long stay here. The setting in the woods was great, the kids had tons of fun swimming and boating in the pond and exploring the woods, and the cabin itself was nice and large enough for our family of 4. Clean and well-maintained, and the owners were available to answer questions and assist with anything we needed very quickly. The location was also terrific; a few minutes from Stowe, a few more from Waterbury (ideal for craft beer fans like myself). The only surprise we had was that the cabin itself was quite dark on the inside, even during the day (a result of being nestled in the woods); not a real problem though - the gas lights worked well and there were plenty of candles. Overall a great place I'd recommend to anyone who thinks they can do without power/plumbing for a bit :)

Great Cabin in beautiful Stowe!
This cabin is in a great location. Its close to town yet far enough for privacy.
The cabin itself is very well maintained and beautiful. Its a short hike up to the cabin from the summer parking spot. The set up inside was well thought out and makes everything easy. Tho there is no water the owners supply some by the kitchen. We used it to clean. They also have a solar shower which we used to get clean. Lay it in the sun in the morning by the afternoon you have hot water. The compost toilet inside was great. Its ordorless and easy to use.
The entire property is great. They have trails for hiking, the pond with kayaks, a paddle board, and a fire pit with precut logs nearby. We enjoyed everything this property and Stowe had to offer. We even seen an owl several nights by the cabin.
We definitely recommend staying here.
We are already planning another trip to come here again.

Cute little cabin located on an amazing property
Our only regret staying at this cabin is not being able to stay longer. The cabin itself is really nice and very comfortable. The beds (futon/bunk) were very comfortable and we all loved the cut branches used to create the railings in the loft. The cabin is perched up on a ledge overlooking the pond. We loved waking up in the loft and having a view down to the pond right from bed. We never missed not having electricity or running water and although the composting toilet seemed fine we never used it opting instead for what is one of the nicest outhouses we’ve ever seen (I know that sounds odd, but trust me it’s great!). While showers were available in town we opted to use a portable sun shower which we hung from a tree next to the pond. Showers with a view!
As nice as the cabin is the real gem is the property it’s located on. In addition to the really picturesque pond there is a really nice grassy area with a fire pit and chairs for relaxing. We also enjoyed walking the many trails that were all very well maintained as well as taking the kayaks out for a paddle around the pond. It was very warm during our stay so we couldn’t resist taking a cooling dip in the pond after getting back from a mountain bike ride. Sitting by the pond sipping coffee listening to a choir of frogs and watching a family of geese cruise the pond was the highlight of both mornings we were there. All-in-all it was a wonderful experience and we hope to return someday in the future so we can spend more time exploring all this wonderful property has to offer.

Great weekend away from the city
Beautiful property was very cozy and relaxing. Well-kept trails around the pond were fun to hike. Property owners were very easy to communicate with, and made sure we had everything we needed when we arrived. We thought the only thing the place was lacking was a dog to play with. Going without electricity and running water for a weekend was not nearly as big a deal as we thought it might be. We can't wait to go back during warmer weather to swim in the pond!

Peaceful and charming!
My boyfriend and I rented Karen's cabin for a weekend of skiing and hiking and Stowe. Not only were we impressed with the surroundings (the cabin sits on a beautiful little pond), we were also taken with Karen's hospitality, accessibility and efforts. The lack of shower was not a problem as it allowed us to get some relaxing spa time in town. Would certainly recommend this to anyone who loves the outdoors!

rural retreat
I enjoyed my stay at the cabin - it is cute, comfortable, and in a peaceful location in the woods. When we arrived late at night, the heat was on, making it much easier to settle in.
This cabin is ideal for unplugging and relaxing. I hope I am able to make time to visit again during the summer so I can enjoy the pond and explore the surrounding trails.

Cozy Winter Getaway
My wife and I had a great getaway to the cabin, and our dog enjoyed the trip too. We were able to explore the trails down around the frozen pond, and the cabin itself was perfect. Warm and cozy, but serene. We were looking for somewhere to get away and get off the grid, and this fit the bill perfectly. Nearby Stowe was fun to explore, too, during the day. We're hoping to find a time to get up next summer or fall and enjoy the unfrozen pond and move the coziness to an outdoor fire!

Warm and Cozy, perfect for a family
My family enjoyed our winter weekend stay at the cabin immensely. The owners stayed in contact with us throughout our visit to make sure we had everything we needed and were comfortable. The listing description was accurate and the cabin was both stocked with water and the gas stove was on when we arrived. With the built-in gas lamps lit, there was a cozy glow in the living area. We brought enough flashlights to keep one each in the bathroom, bedroom, and loft so that anyone entering those rooms had light available without having to wear a headlamp around the cabin.
The nights we stayed there were definitely two of the best sleeps I've ever had. The secluded location kept light and traffic noise at bay.
The night we arrived, it was snowing and the fresh snow on an icy driveway made it impossible to get my van up a steep section. There was plenty of room at the beginning of the driveway to park, so all that happened was our walk to the cabin was a little longer. This wasn't an issue at all and I only mention it to prepare future winter visitors for the possibility. The next day, warmer temperatures helped and I was able to get up the steep section to the parking area with no problem. The owners provided a sled to get our gear from the car to the cabin, as well as slip-on traction soles and snowshoes. The traction soles were much appreciated and useful.
The location has very convenient access to the Village of Stowe and the ski resort. We happened to ski at Bolton Valley which is about 25 minutes away because it's smaller than Stowe and my kids can go off by themselves for a bit and I can trust they'll make it back on their own. After skiing we checked out Main Street Waterbury where there are a number of restaurants and bars. The Ben and Jerry's Factory in Waterbury offers tours as well and is worth doing at least once. The location is within 45 minutes to Burlington as well.
My children enjoyed exploring around the pond and playing in the snow. They were fascinated with the little bridge that connects to a little island in the middle of the pond.
I would go back to the cabin with my family again and definitely recommend it to anyone who would enjoy this type of experience.

Great, clean rustic Stowe cabin
Three of us stayed at the cabin while enjoying a nice ski weekend in January. Only 10 minutes from the mountain and 5 minutes to many restaurants (Bistro at 10 Acres is a gem). Beautiful 10 minute "hike" from the parking area through the woods to the cabin overlooking a pond. Cozy and clean cabin as advertised, plenty of space for our group. Gas log "wood stove" provided plenty of heat when it was zero degrees outside. The fact that there was no electricity provided no issues given the gas lights, candles, and flashlights. The small cistern provided cold "running water" for dishes and washing up, although it would have been nice to have a hot shower after a day of skiing. I would recommend all wheel drive and/or snow tires in the winter to get to the parking area. Would certainly recommend it for those that are adventurous or love camping.

Beautiful Weekend Getaway
Myself and my boyfriend had a little 3-day trip here, and couldn't have been happier with our choice. Pretty close to town (Stowe, or Burlington if you want to take a 40min drive). The cabin ended up being a great retreat for us away from our technologically advanced world and back to basics with the gas stove/heating system, with some nice evening candles for lighting. Friendly service, beautiful location, cool hiking and kayaking right in the backyard, all to yourself!

The perfect weekend
The place is simply amazing! It was exactly the type of spot I was looking for but was not sure actually existed. It was so nice to be able to let my dog of her leash the whole weekend and not have to worry about her getting hurt or annoying non-dog people. It is such a beautiful and peaceful spot. I feel so lucky that we were able to experience it, and we will definitely be back next year if not sooner. If it were up to my dog we would be back this weekend. I have already recommended this cabin to all of my best friends who are looking for something a little different than the normal camping experience. Fantastic!!

Good fun in the mountains
We stayed with a young family and thoroughly enjoyed our time. It feels like you're in the middle of nowhere - no other buildings visible from the cabin, with your own lake and woods to explore - but close enough to attractions and stores, restaurants, etc in Stowe. The children paddled and swam in the lake for hours, and felt truly adventurous.
Efficient booking and everything was clear before arriving.
Thoroughly recommended.

Felt like we hit the jackpot!
We truly feel like we hit the jackpot to find such a charming, peaceful and beautiful spot just outside of Stowe. We stayed for six nights, and we are so glad we had that much time. Our two kids (ages 7 and 4) loved exploring the trails, kayaking, swimming, and hunting for turtles in the pond. We made so many memories during this week and would love to return for a ski vacation some winter. (If only Minnesota wasn't so far away!) The cabin is adorable and was perfect for our family of four. The owners are fabulous and really helpful whenever you need them. I definitely recommend staying here!!

Another fabulous year
This is our second year at the cabin with our grandchildren. We love the fact that they revert back to playing hide and seek and other non-electronic games. They are old enough now to not worry when they take off on the path around the pond for an "adventure." Playing cards at the table by candlelight is also a treat. We talk, laugh, and spend quality time with each other.
