"Little House" is my primary home and not managed by a rental agency. In spring 2022 I purchased a small "tiny house" as a remote studio/office space. It is situated in the back corner of the property (far from the main house, with a separate driveway). During your stay I may be in the tiny house (with my medium sized Goldendoodle, Bleu) traveling, or staying near by. Please note: my early 20's son Finn lives in the basement apartment. There is a separate entrance. He works for a local non-profit media company and makes himself scarce when we have guests. But he can also be called upon should you need anything! Please let me know if you have any questions.
Also, feel free to message me if you wish to book an extended stay (lower rates would apply) or if you have a special event like a wedding or a request for dates that are currently "blocked out" on the availability calendar. Thank you! ~Jennifer of Little House

Just right! Beautiful well kept little house. Convenient to Montpelier, nice little country store just a short distance. Host is great, was very responsive.
We had a lovely stay at Little House in an idyllic and tranquil setting. The garden hammock and walking trails are perfect for disconnecting from the world and the outdoor shower at sunset or under the stars is highly recommended as is the back porch. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare simple meals at home with fresh ingredients from the nearby co-op. Proximity to Morse Farm and maple creemees also a big plus! We hope to return!
Our family loved our stay here! Beautiful area with a cozy environment.

Beautiful home, minutes away from one of my favorite swimming spots and just up the hill from Montpelier. We couldn't have asked for a more relaxing place to enjoy our time in Vermont.

Thanks Rebekah, I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Little House (and swimming at Curtis Pond)! You and Hugh are welcome back anytime! Jennifer
My son and I really enjoyed our stay at the Little House. It was very clean and comfortable, and Jennifer is a great host. A great place to hang out or to use as a base for exploring the Vermont countryside.
Friends visiting from Ontario loved this place. Quiet country setting, yet only 10 minutes from shopping locations. Great swimming and hiking near by. Will definitely be back. Our host was very nice and made our stay one of a kind.
Didn’t care there wasn’t a TV, didn’t bother us that wifi and cellular connection was non existent when you left the property. It was a stunning location, in a stunning home, with everything we NEEDED. It was bliss and the ability to disconnect was exactly what we were looking for. What an incredible place to call home. Thank you for sharing, Jennifer!!

Thanks Kendra! I’m so happy you and your family appreciated Little House and enjoyed your stay in VT! And a HUGE thank you for being so neat and tidy and respectful of the house - GOLD STAR 🌟! Come back next year! Jennifer
Quaint property in the lovely Vermont countryside. We enjoyed our stay here; it had everything we needed for a relaxing stay in the area. Nice walking area and close to maple sugar farm. The owner was very responsive and made sure we were comfortable.
Perfect for what we needed… clean, quiet, and simple! Would definitely come back. Since we were there visiting family, we didn’t have time to check out the property trails, but will next time!
Jennifer’s home was incredibly lovely and was a great home base for our family of 4 for our 5-day stay in Vermont. The house was very clean and had everything we needed. The surrounding gardens and meadows were beautiful, especially at night when they were lit up by fireflies-just magical. Jennifer was super kind and accessible—available to answer questions and provide us with anything we needed. A wonderful stay!
This is a charming small house, located about 15 minutes from Montpelier, but out in the country. Beautiful property. Doesn't have a TV, but we enjoyed streaming shows on our laptop.

Little House was perfect for our stay! It was so quiet, beautiful, and peaceful, and Jennifer is an excellent host. She was very communicative when the wind caused a brief power outage and brought us over some extra water during that time! We visited Montpelier, Stowe, Waterbury, and Burlington during our weekend and all locations were easy to get to (and the drives there were beautiful!). An added bonus was the house being so close to Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks. Would definitely stay here again!
I have always wanted to visits Vermont and this little cottage checked all of the boxes. Cute, cozy and comfortable in an out of the way location. Wether you plan to explore Vermont or just want a quiet place for R&R this place is it.
Although we were here for all things fall, this would be a great base for cross country skiing in the winter.
Thank you Jennifer for creating such a nice space.
Jennifer was an excellent and responsive host. The property was expertly maintained, clean and had everything we needed to enjoy an extended stay. Jennifer also took the extra time to baby-proof for us and provided toys and books which weren’t part of the listing. Looking forward to a future visit.
PS: come during blueberry season!

Thanks Laura! I'm so glad you and your family enjoyed your stay. And happy to help keep your little one safe and entertained while on vacation! I do hope you were able to bring some berries home with you! Jennifer
Our stay at the "Little House" was very good and Jennifer provided very helpful information. It is well equipped with all you need for a relaxing time.
The house is a very short trip from Montpellier in the countryside and a highlight of our stay at the "Little House" was seeing a bear cross the road as we drove back from Montpellier to the house.
If you plan to visit the Ben & Jerry's factory, a must if you like ice cream, do so early in the morning as the road to the factory can get very busy.
In the prettiest Vermont setting, Little House wins your heart. I did not expect the inside to live up the outside vistas, but it does. An artist decorated the cabin with color and light and vintage decor. Plush cotton towels, soft cotton sheets and scented wrapped soaps. An outdoor fire pit and charcoal grill, both of which we used and enjoyed. I left refreshed and relaxed. I can't wait to go back.
I wouldn't change a thing! Clean, but warm and welcoming. Uncluttered, but something interesting or beautiful wherever you look. Thoughtful touches throughout and check in was a breeze. I know who I'm going to try to get ahold of should I decide to set up a vacation rental!

Thank you for this wonderful review! I'm so glad you and your daughter found your way to Little House! Do get in touch if you come back this way! ~Jennifer
Our trip to Calais was wonderful. Jennifer was a great host. She even provided us with a calendar of local events in Calais which was an incredibly charming community.
Everything in the listing is 100% accurate. A beautiful home on a great piece of property with a small hiking area and excellent wildlife.
The kitchen had everything we needed for our stay so we didn't have to eat out unless we wanted to check out a local restaurant.
We couldn't have asked for better accommodations for our trip. Will definitely be visiting again in the future.

It was so lovely to meet you both! I'm so glad you enjoyed your visit to Calais, VT! Congrats and thank you! ~Jennifer
We spent 3 nights at Jennifer's "Little House" and had an amazing time! The house is beautiful, we loved the design and style with the exposed wooden beams. Our favourite spots were the screened-in porch, the seating area in front of the house that gets direct morning sun, and the comfy living room. The house is very well equipped and we had everything we needed, including some hiking guide books and board games. Besides the regular bathrooms, there is also an outdoor shower (with hot water) which I recommend trying! We used the house as a base to explore the area, including trips to Stowe and nearby waterfalls, Montpelier, and Glover to see a show by theater troupe Bread & Puppet. If we come back to Vermont we would definitely stay at Jennifer's place again!
Jennifer's Little House was exactly what we hoped for. The house is really beautiful. It has a peaceful porch on the back off the kitchen. Everything was just so well done and pretty. Very comfortable living room, bedroom upstairs was perfect with a big sliding door (for air as no upper deck) that looked out onto meadows. We only occasionally caught glimpses of her son that lives in the basement when he came and went. Never heard him. There's a wonderful outdoor shower, too, and walking trails! And we were lucky enough to be there during blueberry season! Highly recommend! Adamant co-op, maple corner, and Morse farm for maple creamees all very close. We went to Friday cookout at Adamant,. Open mic at Maple corner, and had a few maple creamees!

About the host
Hosted by Jennifer Whitman
I'm mid 40’s ish with two young adult children and one mini goldendoodle pup. I enjoy gardening, Pilates, photography, and jumping in the ocean whenever I am close enough to do so. I wish I could live on a mountaintop or a remote island or lighthouse -- but my tiny house is the next best thing.
Why they chose this property
I love the rural character of County Road in Calais. It’s very scenic with a good combination of forests, meadows, farms and homes. "Little House" is my primary home. In 2022 I set up a small "tiny house" for myself as a remote office space. It is situated in the back corner of the property (far from the main house, with a separate driveway). I hope to rent out my primary home for a few months a year while I travel and retreat to my tiny, simpler, "Littler House."
What makes this property unique
For a "Little" house, it has a lot to offer. Lots of different spaces to work from home from or to enjoy meals. The location is perfect for getting out to the ponds or heading into Montpelier. Six open acres is very relaxing and fun for folks with kids. The outdoor shower is a bonus when you come home from a swim! The house is very cozy and sweet. Everyone who comes to visit just loves Little House!
