Come enjoy our super private, fully renovated "Mid-Century Modern Compound" in the charming and historic neighborhood of Hammond Wood, located just a short 5 mile drive from the Washington, DC border and one mile from the Wheaton Metro stop. Originally designed by renowned architect Charles Goodman (who also designed the iconic terminal building for the Washington National Airport), this 2-bedroom/1-bathroom home has been meticulously restored by Cook Architecture. The result is a comfortable balance of contemporary functionality and original design elements that pays homage to the home's significant history.

Nestled amidst mature trees, manicured gardens, and singing birds, the property offers unparalleled privacy, with a fully fenced-in yard that boasts a fire pit, perfect for cozy evenings. Inside, the galley-style kitchen is fully equipped with brand new Poggenpohl cabinets, sleek quartz countertops, elegant walnut shelving, Bosch appliances, and comfortable seating for two at the bar. The living room features an eye-catching stone floor with radiant heating and large TV. The bedrooms are furnished with queen-sized beds and cork flooring. The modern bathroom has a comfortable walk-in shower.

Additionally, the property includes a separate studio structure in the backyard, although it is currently unavailable for guest use. We hope to open it up again in the future.

We will share our favorite local spots for dining, shopping, and attractions, especially in nearby Kensington, Bethesda, Garrett Park, and more.

Was a very nice property, well stocked kitchen. The neighborhood itself is very nice as well. I had some issues with the curtains in my bedroom and I was surprised by the stairs leading up the house (though that may have been listed and I missed it). Otherwise the hosts were very accommodating.

Great little place

This was a great little place for us to stay with two small geriatric dogs. The fenced yard was the best for them. The place w is a nice cozy house with plenty of space.

We had a wonderful stay for our family of four (two adults, two children) plus our two dogs. The home was spotless, comfortable, and truly relaxing. The kitchen was fully stocked with all the essentials, and the large windows made us feel connected to the beautiful yard outside. The yard itself was perfect for our dogs, and the neighborhood was peaceful and quiet—ideal for unwinding.We stayed for five days during a kitchen remodel and couldn’t have asked for a better retreat. The host was fantastic—warm, responsive, and highly communicative throughout our stay. We would absolutely stay here again and will recommend it to friends in town.Thank you to our host for making this such a great experience!

Beautiful House and Yard

This was exceptional. Welcoming, Clean, comfortable, and lots of amenities. We were there for DC sightseeing and the proximity to the metro station was helpful. Host was responsive and welcoming. We appreciated being able to bring our dog with us and he really enjoyed the yard.

Christmas Visit

Stayed here while visiting son and family in Silver Spring for Christmas. Lovely home with everything you need for a great stay. View is beautiful and even saw a deer by the fence. Owner was easy to contact and so helpful. Have rented homes all over the globe and one of the best experiences—highly recommend

a lovely oasis in the woods-

This mid century modern home is delightful. The kitchen is wonderful and easy to cook in. The back yard is a highlight with lovely sitting spaces and tables to enjoy the trees, birds and especially sunsets. We shared meals outdoors with our daughter twice and she was very impressed as well.

Cute little house in Wheaton, Maryland

Cute and renovated with upscaled kitchen and bathroom appliances. Overall nice quality to everything and it was a very convenient location to the Washington DC area. Bed was very comfortable. Would prefer more comfortable seating in the living room/kitchen area. Quiet neighborhood, the fenced in backyard a definitely plus for our two small dogs.

Great hide away

Very clean. Nice bathroom. Appliances functional. Nice neighborhood to walk our pugs. Very easy to get to the zoo and downtown Bethesda and Chevy chase via a car. Private and quiet outdoor space. We needed a place to stay to visit family in the area that was dog friendly. It worked out well.

Awesome Mid-century Modern experience!

My family was in the area to meet our newborn grandchild. Our sons and dog stayed with us at this property and we visited our daughter and the baby nearby. Every morning, we had coffee on the patio and enjoyed the peaceful, relaxing, very private yard. The neighborhood was quiet and pleasant. The dog enjoyed the fenced yard and hanging out on the patio. The house was great--it's small but very functional, and the patio basically enlarged the living space wonderfully. The property owners were super communicative and friendly. An awesome property and a wonderful stay!

Many of the Virginia and Maryland projects are located in the mid-century modern neighborhoods of Hollin Hills, Holmes Run Acres, Pine Spring, Hammond Wood, Hammond Hill, and Takoma Park.

Why they chose this property

This mid-century modern house, initially designed by architect Charles Goodman and fully renovated by our architecture firm, is full of glass, wood, and brick. The home was purposefully sited on the lot in a specific way that creates privacy, maximizes sun exposure, and preserves trees and native plants. We are big fans of Goodman's, and we have renovated over 35 of his houses over the years. Meant to be a small starter home when it was built in the 50s, the house's 900 sq.ft. feels simultaneously warm and comfortable while modern, open, and airy.
