Downtown Retreat in Restored Historic Cottage with Off-Street Parking
Welcome to your Downtown Private Retreat. Since 2017, we have hosted guests in our one-of-a-kind cottage accommodation. The 1930s stucco home is truly centrally located and entirely restored with plenty of character, inside and out.
Explore the riverfront downtown and surrounding hills on foot or set off on day-trips in any direction. Driveway parking is included. Let us know if you want to reserve that for your stay.
There is a comfortable queen bed in a separate bedroom, spacious bathroom with stall shower, and a living room with twin Chinese lounge beds that have 5" high density foam cushions, a dining worktable with 4 chairs, 2 Mid-Century style chairs, and various storage areas. Internet is available, and 32" TV (with Netflix only), central air-conditioning or heating with a thermostat in the hallway (we need to make a switch between the two though). You will find an unusual assortment of antique furnishings from around the world and an amazing meditation room.
The tiny kitchen space has a refrigerator freezer, 2-burner induction cook-top, deluxe 5-in-1 wall oven, an 18” wide dishwasher, and cabinetry. The appliances have important instruction guides ......OR plan your retreat from the kitchen too!
Only steps out the door, there are many surprisingly diverse dining and entertainment options: coffee shops, restaurants, trails, and other local gems. Visit the international award-winning 2022 Public Library of the Year, an excellent resource with spectacular panoramic views. Grocery stores and laundromat are also nearby. University of Montana and St. Patrick Hospital are both within walking distance. Highway access and airport are not far.
Guests have private access and use of the main floor space via the steps or concrete ramp in the photos and plan layout. The entry door keypad code is changed after each guest. And there is an additional privacy lock, once you are in for the evening.

Perfect location in Missoula. It’s an easy walk to downtown to restaurants/bars/venues/shopping. House was clean, had necessary amenities, and communication with host was easy.
My wife and I wanted to check out Missoula. The decor is relaxing, meditative yoga style. The house is very clean and comfortable. It is an easy walk to downtown area. We would definitely stay there again.

Thank you! We look forward to seeing you again on future trips to Zootown!
My husband and I have stayed here multiple times because we love it so much! The Asian inspired decor, responsive hosts, location within walking distance of historic downtown Missoula, and cleanliness make staying here a lovely and memorable experience.
We enjoyed our stay at your lovely unit! Peaceful and cozy! Love the access to town, walkable to everything. Great host, great communication, thank you!
Fabulous location to bars and restaurants in down town Missoula.
Great space to relax and explore down town Missoula. Comfortable space with limited kitchen area, so eating out is a must. The decor took me back to my travels around South East Asia, which added to the fun experience.

Our host communicated quickly and was thorough with information about the place. The house is adorable and tastefully decorated and most importantly, clean. I loved the location as it was close to the downtown and university area. I would definitely book again.
We loved our stay. The location was perfect. Such a quick walk to town where all the action is. The apartment was quiet and clean. We will definitely be back.

Thank you for your kind words. We look forward to seeing you again.
I enjoyed my stay. Very comfortable bed and living area. Tiny kitchen. Friendly owner lives above rental quarters. Excellent location, walkable to river and good restaurants. House faces busy street but you don’t hear traffic from bedroom.
Lovely space with an ideal location. Lots of nice touches added to the very Missoula vibe. Walked to anywhere I needed to, and was right off the highway. Perfect spot to spend my wedding weekend!

About the host
Your host
Missoula is a wonderful place! It's been my home for more than 30 years. It's also great to visit, whether staying in town or as a base to go to other parts of the region. We enjoy hosting to offer you a special place to stay while you are here. And hope to have the chance to visit with you too. There are opportunities right in Missoula for different kinds of music, theater, dance, film, and of course, visiting with people - those that are local and those from elsewhere. It tends to be a welcome vibe. And those significant visits may already be the reason why you are coming to Missoula for the first time - or coming back.
Why they chose this property
The house is centrally located between the hub of downtown and the university across the river. It's the "urban" core with plenty of coffee spots, restaurants and nightlife, walk-able on neighborhood streets and several nearby trails, including along the river that's only a few blocks away. The historic Pine Street boulevard is around the corner with its residential old neighborhood feel. The Missoula Children's Theater is across the street and the award-winning Public Library is in view from the front door. It's got panoramic views of the city! The Mountain Line bus transfer center is a few blocks away and the service is currently free, if you need that.
What makes this property unique
This is a very central location and an unusual home. My background is in architecture, historic preservation, and lighting design. It's very rare to find a house that can be restored with so much of its original historic fabric and also modernize it with care. This is one of those and a lot has gone in to creating what is here, both inside and out. I like to walk, use public transit, garden, and travel frequently. In fact, I have not owned a car for over a decade, not typical in Montana. But it's doable for me in this place. There are plenty of special features to this home, its memories, and its character to share. In the rental, you'll also see textiles that are hand-made by me and my buddies too. Many people from near and far, here and gone, have made this what it is, truly unique.
