About this property
Immortelle Tree House
Immortelle is an octagonal shaped wooden house nestled in beautiful, majestic tropical trees (Saman, Palms, Pouis, Cocoa, Mango) built on a 2-acre plot of land situated at the Grande Riviere river mouth.
Grande Riviere beach is a protected nesting ground for Giant Leatherback Turtles and the access is restricted, during night hours (by permit only, permits can be obtained from the Tourist Office situated near the beach) from March 1st to August 31st.
The house is accessible off Hosang St, a large wooden gate marks the entrance and the driveway is lined with Palm trees and Bougainvillea.
The main living area is about 18ft off the ground giving you the feeling that you are in a tree house. Heavy wooden louver doors open in accordion to reveal picture frames of green beauty with the Caribbean Sea on the horizon.
The open space living area including the kitchen and dining room is spacious and comfortable, allowing one to feel at home among the birds and the trees tops. The kitchen is fully equipped with all modern amenities. An outdoor deck attached to the house by a wooden bridge is great for star gazing, sitting in the sun or just being at one with nature.
The master bedroom is furnished with a four-poster king size bed in mahogany wood. An intimate smaller bedroom has 2 single beds and offers another view of the greenery surrounding the house (banana trees, coconuts, sugarcane and Pouis). A loft reached by a staircase carved out of the trunk of a massive Saman tree sleeps comfortably 4 persons.
A bathroom with open shower and toilet tiled with local red clay tiles and Ajoupa pottery creations complete the first floor.
A walk around balcony contours the whole house (except the kitchen area).
The downstairs area is a great liming spot for the children; hammocks are available to hang from hooks installed downstairs. The downstairs area has a store room, a toilet and a second bathroom.
Immortelle is a celebration of the local hard wood of Trinidad and South America, with intricate fretwork designs carved out of the white and red Olivier walls; the Saman counter tops in the kitchen the Cedar cupboards and the Greenheart floors.
Immortelle being built of wood is totally organic and alive, so sometimes you may hear the wood creaking or have visits from birds and other friendly forest creatures.
So climb into Immortelle, up the narrow concrete staircase and enjoy the warm, nurturing organic energy of wood in total comfort.
