About this property

Quiet, Cozy Cottage in the Woods with Large Outdoor Area

Charming guesthouse on a secluded street. Private deck overlooking creek and forest. Extensive grounds of several acres. Pavilion with BBQ in large yard/meadow area. Short walk on private property to the Salmon River. Property abuts the Salmon Huckleberry Wilderness.

Sleep in the queen-sized bed with luxury sheets. The double sofa bed in the living room is not quite so luxurious but children are quite comfy in it. Cook your own meals in the full kitchen, or go out to Highway 26 to find many local places to eat.

Enjoy sitting on the deck listening to birdsongs and watch the deer and other occasional wildlife wandering through. Walk the gravel paths to the park area. Go down to the river. Hike up the ridge.

Escape from TV by playing games or cards. Excellent Wi-fi provided. Information on local restaurants, hiking trails, scenic drives and other activities is available in the nicely furnished cottage. Mt. Hood is the only year around ski and snowboarding area in the country. The cottage is near a resort with golf, spa, restaurants, and a short distance to many hiking trails. Grocery nearby.

Peaceful oasis
We love this little cottage in the woods. It’s just enough for the two of us to relax, drink coffee, read books and hike along the property’s various trails. This was our 4th year here and we absolutely love it.

Lovely unique cabin
I loved the place, the land, the cabin, the river and the hosts were very kind. Even though it was extremely hot, the cabin air conditioning worked well.

About the host

Hosted by Mark & Monica

Host profile image
An east-coast girl who worked in Portland and a mid-western boy who travelled the world, met and found a magical place in the woods. We both love old houses and travel. Mark can fix just about anything, and Monica is happiest hosting a table full of friends. Monica is an advertising creative and Mark is an IT consultant.

Why they chose this property

Classic, old-fashioned property full of charm that feels unspoiled. A man-made creek from the 1920s, garden paths, outbuildings, greenhouse, stonework. It is a beautiful piece of land with river frontage that abuts wilderness. Truly unique. We have traveled a fairly large swath of the Earth and think this is one of the most beautiful places we have seen. More than one visitor has called this place an "enchanted forest". The previous owners have a lot of heart & soul. In the 5 years they hosted the guesthouse, it has been consistently a 5-star review-getter. We hope to continue in their spirit.

What makes this property unique

Being secluded at the end of a dead end gravel road, having nothing but wilderness on 2 sides --- Salmon River frontage in one direction and the Salmon Huckleberry Wilderness in another direction. Neighbors on 2 sides, but you will not feel crowded. Romantic and wild, with acres to explore. But there's a shopping center 5 minutes away, in case you need some milk or batteries. A resort with golf & a spa is a very short drive away. It also is only an hour's drive from the attractions of Portland in one direction and the Columbia River Gorge in another. The best of all worlds.
