The location was so convenient to the event we were in town for and to downtown; I loved walking everywhere! The house was perfect for two couples mostly using it as a homebase. It had everything we needed and check-in/out was super simple.
It is the perfect home base for exploring Suttons Bay or hanging out at the beach. Everything is just around the corner. The beds are comfortable and it is very quiet at night. We were already starting to plan our next visit over coffee on our last day.
Location, location, location! This is the best house to walk/ride bikes to anything you want to see in Sutton Bay. 5 minute walk to the beach and it’s a beautiful beach! We spent 6 hours there one day and our kids could have stayed longer. Holly was great to work with and we really enjoyed the house. Highly recommend!
We had a wonderful stay at this property. It is exactly as listed (if not even more spacious in person). Fantastic location in the heart of Sutton’s Bay. The hosts were very communicative and friendly. We would definitely stay here again!
This was our second consecutive summer stay at this great property and everything was just as delightful as before - such a comfortable place for us to host family and friends, and the owners are charming, kind, and were attentive to our questions and (one minor) concern. It's a sweet retreat!!
We found the home to be as advertised. It was comfortable, with plenty of room. The hosts were terrific with respect to responsiveness and offering a helping hand.
Well appointed VRBO in a quiet neighborhood, yet near the beach, restaurants and shopping. Close to several other northern Michigan attractions. This place has plenty of parking and a pleasant outdoor patio with lots of comfortable seating to watch the sunrise and listen to birds. Also, the artwork is beautiful. The house backs up to the best restaurant in town that plays nice music to listen to while lounging in the hammock on the patio. I sat in the grassy side yard at night and could see the Milky Way!There is a nice deep bathtub, though you have to straddle a foot wide “wall” with no grab bars to assist you while entering and exiting. Watch for the trip hazard into the kitchen, easy to miss. Overall, nice place to rent.
You can’t beat this location in Sutton’s Bay. A 3 minute walk to the beach and all the town has to offer. Property managers were very helpful. Only suggestion would be some cleanup and landscaping on the back deck. Not really currently usable in its current condition, but has great potential.

Ryan we thank you for the kind words about the location of the house. The back patio which is tucked in and very private is set up with a grill, outdoor seating and dining area for guests. Not clear what you’re thoughts are on landscaping. Wondering if some branches came down from the shade trees during your stay or the mulberry tree had ripe berries that dropped but we’ll check it out.
Had a great stay at Holly and Jerome's property. Immaculately clean and very comfortable. Exactly as the pictures show. Plenty of room for all of us to spread out. Kitchen had everything you could want and then some. Beds were comfortable and central air kept the house cool and comfortable even with temps being 90 and humid. Location is close to everything and neighborhood is quiet. Lovely patio outback for gathering outside. Owners respond immediately to questions or if needed. Would definitely return.
The location is amazing. It has old house charm which makes the layout a little choppy. The house was clean except the floors need a good mop. If you are planning on cooking, it’s not well equipped. - missing hot pads, dish towels, coffee filters, trash bags, large pot etc. Not a good rental for elderly guest- steep stairs and first floor bath has deep tub which is hard to enter to shower. We did enjoy our stay because of the location and checkout was super easy.

Well your review has me both puzzled and hurt. The stairs are a normal run to rise. I double checked on the pots and pans - there is a large stock pot, a large enameled Dutch oven, several sauce pans and sauté pans. The Cuisinart coffee maker has a gold mesh filter basket that doesn’t require a paper filter. Backup garbage bags were in the landlord closet which I had told you was not locked during your stay. I did discover that the hotpads and kitchen towels had mysteriously vanished - you were correct. I replenished those items and would have happily done that while you were here had you but mentioned that to me. On another topic we do not allow pets and the white dog left quite a lot of fur behind.
And we kindly let you have an early check in time upon your request. I really am quite offended by your unkind and unwarranted review.
We just returned from an absolutely wonderful stay at this property in Suttons Bay and couldn't be more pleased with our experience. From the moment we arrived, we knew we had chosen the perfect place for our family getaway. The location was ideal - close enough to enjoy everything Suttons Bay has to offer, yet peaceful and private enough to truly relax and unwind. The property itself exceeded our expectations in every way. It was immaculately clean, beautifully maintained, and had all the amenities we needed to feel right at home. What made our stay extra special was being able to spend quality time with our grandparents who live in the area. The property provided the perfect home base for family gatherings, with plenty of space for everyone to be comfortable. The layout was perfect for hosting, and we created memories we'll cherish forever. The host was responsive and clearly cares about providing an exceptional experience for guests. Check-in was seamless, and everything was exactly as described in the listing - actually, even better in person! We're already planning our return visit and can't wait to stay here again. If you're looking for a place in the Suttons Bay area, look no further. This property is a true gem, and we feel lucky to have found it. Thank you for helping make our family time so special!Highly recommend to anyone visiting northern Michigan!
Our family stayed here in July of 21 and had a great time! The location was perfect. Whether we were staying close to Sutton’s Bay or doing other things in the area we felt the location couldn’t have been better. We loved walking to eat out, get coffee, Ice cream, to shop, or walk to the beach and we were just a short drive to some of our favorite wineries. The kitchen was well stocked. The only reason we gave it a four is because the mattresses weren't the most comfortable for some in our party (which can be subjective) and we had air conditioning issues while we were there (the owner was aware and had a repairman come to try and fix the problem); some rooms were fine with the window units while others were stuffy. The owners were friendly and responsive to our needs and requests.. for example, we were short on bath towels and wash rags and they delivered additional sets within a couple of hours. The house was clean and well equipped.

We thoroughly adored this charming home, filled with glowing natural light and whimsical original art. The location is perfect for walking a single block to the bustling downtown and lakefront. It's also convenient for driving to other small villages nearby, or a variety of stunning recreational sites, and wineries. Yet when you get back "home", it feels like a private nest. The well-equipped house combines the charm of an old abode with great modern updates where needed, and the verdant yard/gardens are inviting from sunrise through the evening. The owners solved our single minor issue immediately. We're sad to leave!
Very solid and spacious home. A few quirks due to it being an old house (tight stairs, step up/down between rooms, light switches in odd spots). Enjoyed playing games each night in the upstairs family room (great size table) and gathered in the downstairs living room in the mornings to plan our day. Overall cleanliness leaves something to be desired. Basic spaces were adequately clean (kitchen/bath) but the blinds were very dusty and there were cobwebs in several spots. Hosts were great though we didn’t need to contact them during our weeklong stay. We love al fresco dining and ate at a large table with an umbrella on the concrete back patio each night but it was not as inviting a space as it could be. Very messy mulberry tree, and other unkempt items made it difficult to fully enjoy the patio. We did enjoy the music playing at the restaurant across the alley though. Great location and proximity to downtown shops and marina/beach. We watched different communities fireworks from the end of the pier! Would definitely recommend it but for the price might have expected a bit more attention to details.
Wonderful quiet location on tree lined street within 2 blocks of downtown stores and beaches. Beautifully renovated classic house. Half mile bike ride/walk on quiet street to paved Leelanau trail to Traverse City (16 miles)
We had a great visit, the house is extremely convenient to walking to beach, downtown. The layout has a bedroom downstairs, and 2 bedrooms upstairs. One of the upstairs bedrooms has an in-suite bathroom. The other bathroom is off the kitchen. This isn’t an issue just something good to note regarding the layout. We definitely recommend this house!
Holly’s house was perfect for our family of four. We especially loved having our meals on the patio and the excellent location. The kitchen is fairly well appointed and the extra sitting room upstairs was perfect for puzzling! We would rent again!
Everyone enjoyed our stay, central to many attractions and beaches. 15 minutes to Fishtown, make sure to check out Hop Lot for a pint, and dig in at Scoops 22. The house itself is relaxing and vibrant. Thank you.

About the host
Hosted by Holly and Jerome Smith
Holly and Jerome Smith are both northern Michigan natives, but they spent their formative years in New York, running some of the region's best restaurants and vinting wine. After finally making their way back home to beautiful Northern MI., Holly has pretty much retired but still does a couple days a week at the area’s best wine and gourmet shop in Lake Leelanau (Peninsula Provisions) and Jerome is even known to lend a hand here and there at one of the best restaurants in Northern MI which is managed by their son Sebastian (The Riverside Inn in Leland). It is safe to say hospitality is in their blood. It should be no surprise then that custom concierge, catering and event services are available - just inquire if interested. Otherwise, whip up your own culinary feast in their gourmet kitchen. Need help with tastings, tours, wine and shopping, local sourcing and foraging or just the skinny on the best restaurants and the local scene? They can help there too.
Why they chose this property
Both Holly and Jerome managed vacation rental properties in Leelanau county for other resort companies and after learning the lay of the land and meeting so many wonderful people, they knew their own home would be perfect for visitors. This 100+ year old Victorian has been updated and restored, complete with gracious outdoor living. Jerome's great-great grandfather was an original Suttons Bay settler, and their love for the area runs deep.
