The Meadowbrook is a thoughtfully designed, modern three-bedroom, two-bath home where neutral materials and subdued colors keep your attention on what's happening outside — because outside is spectacular. Nestled in the famous See Canyon in San Luis Obispo, the home sits on 11 acres of old-growth sycamore and oak trees, with a sweeping meadow right out front and a dry creek bed winding through the property. The outdoor deck gives you a front-row seat to it all. Just 20 minutes from downtown San Luis Obispo, this is the perfect blend of peaceful rural living and easy access to everything the Central Coast has to offer.
Wake up to constant birdsong, sip your morning coffee on the deck overlooking the rolling hills and apple orchards, or sink into the hot tub as the sun sets over the orchard next door. Nature is your constant companion here. On cool evenings, gather around the wood-burning stove — firewood provided — for that perfect cozy California night. Browse your favorite streaming apps on the Frame TV, or let the kids burn off energy on the trampoline. All bedrooms have blackout curtains for the most restful sleep you've had in years. The fully equipped kitchen makes it easy to cook in. Embrace the casual ease of life in the country.
Meet Babu: Our sweet resident cat is an easy-going indoor/outdoor companion who loves the property and rarely strays far. She'll need to be fed morning and night — food is always provided — but there's no litter box to manage and nothing complicated about her care. She's affectionate without being demanding, and simply part of what makes The Meadowbrook feel like a home. Our dog is boarded during all guest stays. Please note this property is not suitable for guests with pet allergies.
Right next door — just a 3-minute walk — is Gopher Glen Apple Farm, open July through December. Sample dozens of apple varieties, grab fresh juice, or pick up a homemade pie to warm by the stove. Our kids swear by the apple cider popsicles. Kelsey Winery is just five minutes away, with gorgeous roaming peacocks and frequent live music on weekends. Avila Valley Barn is open year-round with hay rides, a petting zoo, and U-Pick fun for the whole family. For the adventurous, the Bob Jones Trail winds all the way to the beach. For those craving pure relaxation, Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort is less than ten minutes away — slip into one of their naturally heated mineral spring hot tubs and feel every bit of tension melt away. On clear mornings, drive up Perfumo Canyon for panoramic views of the entire region. And for wine lovers, The Meadowbrook sits in the heart of one of California's great wine regions, with countless tasting rooms just minutes away.
San Luis Obispo is consistently ranked one of the happiest places on earth — and once you arrive at The Meadowbrook, you'll understand why. Every detail has been anticipated so your stay will create memories that last a lifetime.

Amanda's property is amazing. It is remote enough so that you can get away from the City life, but it is only 10-15 min to town. It is close to both SLO and Avila Beach/Pismo Beach it is beautifully designed and decorated. We loved the view through the huge sliding doors from the living room and dining room. Our family had a great time!

Ed, I'm happy you enjoyed yourselves. I know there were a few items out of our control that affected your trip - the overturned truck blocking See Canyon for a day and electricity out for a few hours! I'm so happy that you were still able to have fun!
I have been so excited to stay in this home, I couldn't wait to get there! The setting, the accommodations, the warmth of the welcome when you walk in, the beauty of the surroundings and every little attention to detail were simply perfect. The beds were so comfortable, I NOW must replace my own ~ LOL
The gracious owners even left a hand-written welcome note with some wonderful honey from a near-by farm.
Check in and out instructions were detailed and very easy to follow, and the kitchen had everything we needed to tuck ourselves away and enjoy our time in such a lovely home! Sending out a heartfelt Thank you to Amanda for everything you do to make your renters feel welcome and at home! Well done!

Robyne, I'm thrilled to hear your enjoyed your get-away.
Shhhh... If I tell you about this place, I'll have to kill you...
After waiting 9 months to stay at this gem, I finally did. And now that I have I really want to give it a TERRIBLE review so that all future renters avoid it and I can have it to myself. Ahhh, but I won't do that. Amanda's place is fantastic and a little modernist gem in an oak woodland looking over a deer-frequented meadow. It is an oasis and perfect for a couple or a small family. Serenity and beauty abound from the structure itself, to the setting, and extending to the furnishings and decor. I really wish I could have it all to myself. A little touch I loved - and is very rare - was discovering weights and other exercise equipment in a cupboard: a nice touch for us health conscious travellers. Appointed with everything one could ask for. Thanks for a wonder stay!

Ha! I saw the word "terrible" and thought something happened during your stay. Glad you enjoyed the place!
This home was more than we could have asked for! It’s located in the most beautiful little neighborhood but easy to get to from the highway (maybe 10 min). We were surrounded by tall trees and couldn’t hear a peep from the distanced neighbors. The floor to ceiling windows were so peaceful just to look outside while sitting on the couch. This home is plenty of space for two couples, made us wish we invited friends to stay! The kitchen had EVERYTHING you needed along with all of the bath amenities and even detergent and stain remover in the laundry area. Thank you so much we hope to be back!!!
We rented this place pre COVID vaccine availability in hopes of participating in some kind of high school graduation event for my niece at the SLO high school. There aren't a lot of rentals near the city center and we wanted to be isolated anyway.
This house definitely reflects the description:
Meadow? Check!
Deer? Check!
Big windows? Check!
Comfortable outdoor chairs? Check!
All the furniture was comfortable, beds were good. The kitchen was well stocked--it even had decent knives, which never happens.
Amanda was great with arranging an extra day's stay once it became clear my niece and her friends were going to get a "real" graduation. She also helped me with a late checkout.
We've stayed at another property on the other "end" of the canyon and while it was nice it simply wasn't as easy to get to and figure out as this place. That's important when you are only traveling for a few days.
If you stay, take a walk (or two) down the road to the winery and back; really beautiful regardless of the time of year.
This is a surprisingly rural property yet still close to SLO -- really restful setting complete with swing and hammock, and really cool modern house. Amanda was super easy to communicate with, check-in and check-out was a breeze. Wish we had a longer stay!
We loved the house and property and location. It is in such a beautiful setting and house met all of our needs and was very clean and organized and thoughtfully designed. The winery down the street is lovely for couples or family, and Avila bike rides and other adventures are very close. It is also an easy drive to Montana de Oro, Morro Bay, SLO etc. Thanks for a lovely stay!
This is the property that I wish I could stay at for months at time. It is absolutely wonderful. Beautifully decorated, very comfortable, and just perfect for a family vacation.
I loved sitting on the deck, drinking tea, and watching the woodpecker in the tree above. There are wonderful hikes along Highway one / coast. It is a perfect place to stay and get away from it all.
If you are considering a vacation in this area, you should stay here.
We just needed a change of scenery, after working from home since last year. We split the days into work in the am and hiking in the afternoons. The house has good Wifi for all online meetings, one of the cabinets has a little computer desk built in. The location is perfectly located to explore various nearby parks, and the property is well equipped for cooking in the evenings. We simply loved our stay, Amanda is a very communicative host and we found everything as described.
We would love to return!
We had a wonderful stay, thoroughly enjoyed the privacy and tranquility of this home tucked away in the hills. Each morning we were visited by the local turkeys and even saw a few deer crossing, it was a much needed break from the city life. Highly recommend to anyone looking to be immersed in nature, it doesn’t get better than this!!
I can’t begin to tell you what a pleasure it was to stay at this house. It was the perfect size for our family. My two teens stayed in the split-wing, and my infant and spouse stayed in the master bedroom. The kids loved having their own space. It was nice to come back from sightseeing to relax like we were at home. In the morning, I would watch the sunrise with a cup of coffee from the beautiful living area. The turkeys were out in the morning, and the kids loved nature. I loved that you could do your laundry and cook there, unlike a hotel. Neighbors were far for privacy. It was perfect, and exactly what we needed. Whenever we had a question, the owner was a text away. She responded immediately. Added bonus it is baby ready with high chair, play pen, etc.
We booked this property as our first getaway during the pandemic. It was so wonderful to get out of the city and into the beauty and calm of the Central Coast. The house was perfect - the design is lovely and the property is gorgeous (our 6yo son loved swinging in the big oak tree). We also really enjoyed popping over to SLO, Moro Bay, and Avila Beach. All in all, our stay was magical!
This location was perfect for our little family. The only thing to remember is there is no AC. We overlooked this detail when booking and we’re here during a relentless heat wave. Fortunately the beach is very close by.
We thoroughly enjoyed this fabulous little dwell-type house situated in a lovely canyon full of organic heritage apple orchards. This house is the perfect relaxing retreat. We hiked the Avila Ridge trail along the coast with fabulous views and walked to the local orchard for apples and cider. It was hot while we were here so, really enjoyed the cider popsicles. There are comfortable beds and a well equipped kitchen. Highly recommended.
My family of four (with two kids, ages 4 and 7) spent 5 nights here in early July. The owner was responsive throughout, from booking, to answering all questions, to suggesting activities we might want to do, (within the constraints the current Covid-19 pandemic imposed.)
The house itself was well-appointed and comfortable: two bedrooms with comfortable mattresses; two bathrooms, including a bathtub for bathing kids; an airy, updated kitchen, with modern appliances and decent tools; a reading nook & books; local art prints on the wall; bluetooth speaker for playing music; and even some toiletries. I particularly appreciated the large windows/ sliding glass doors that let in lots of natural light and let you enjoy the beautiful surroundings of See Canyon.
Lovely property, quiet and the perfect place to relax and unwind. It's close to the city, but not too close. I will definitely be back and I have to stay longer.
This property is comfortable and homelike, and we loved the location and the wildlife. The place was very clean, we had everything we needed. I liked the overall feeling of the place, and the natural light. While we felt secluded and surrounded by nature, we could get to SLO, Pismo Beach, and Avila Beach very easily. Just our style. Thank you for sharing your home with us! We would love to stay again!

About the host
Hosted by Amanda Hughes Martinez
Simplicity — or at least a desire to escape the complexities of city living — often leads people to the country. For me, a mom to two growing boys, living and working in Los Angeles, I yearned for an escape from the realities of modern life. I frequently made the trip to the Central Coast, and with roots in the Midwest, I craved a life hidden in the trees where my boys could run free and explore unencumbered. The moment I saw this 11-acre parcel, I knew it was the place for us. I purchased the property in 2018, and since 2023 we have called it home full-time. This property feeds our passions — hiking, biking, surfing, and drinking wine! But what keeps me here, more than anything, is the joy this land seems to give people. There is something about this place that puts everyone at ease — guests arrive as strangers and leave feeling restored. Sharing that experience with others is one of my greatest joys, and I hope The Meadowbrook does the same for you.
Why they chose this property
See Canyon is a spectacularly unique Eden tucked away from the world — most people don't even know it exists. It is the rare kind of place that feels like a genuine escape into nature while still putting you within easy reach of a vibrant, beloved city. The canyon has its own rhythm and its own quiet magic. Once you turn off the main road and find yourself beneath the canopy of trees, the rest of the world simply falls away.
What makes this property unique
It is the trees. The old-growth sycamores and oaks that have stood on this land for hundreds of years have a way of grounding you that is difficult to put into words. There is a stillness and a presence to them that you feel the moment you arrive. They have weathered seasons, storms, and generations — and spending time beneath them has a way of putting everything in perspective. That is the gift of The Meadowbrook, and it is one that never gets old.
