About this property

3 BR Classic Log Cottage on Lake Michigan, 3 Night Minimum, Kayaks included

Classic Original Summer Cottage directly on Lake Michigan, dual waterfront access to over 1100 feet of private Lake Michigan beach as well as Pigeon Lake. The cottage is part of the gated community of Port Sheldon Beach Association. The Association provides two children's parks one of which is near the cottage and another within walking distance. Also included is access to the S'Ports Courts which offers newly redone tennis courts, pickle ball, basketball, 4 square and horseshoes. Pigeon Lake waterfront offers docks for fishing, a beach area perfect for launching kayaks, and a DNR public access boat ramp to launch pleasure crafts or fishing boats. Enjoy some relaxation on the water's edge of Lake Michigan with association provided fire rings, fire wood, and picnic tables.

Step back in time with the classic log interior with original wood floors throughout this home and updated with appliances and bathroom. The cabin has maintained its rustic nature with chain pull lighting and single pain windows and wooden doors. Although rustic the home offers modern amenities with wireless HIGH SPEED INTERNET along with two smart TVs to stream Netflix or whatever streaming service you like. The main living area includes a sofa, chairs, and a dining room table all centered around the big picture window facing Lake Michigan and the million dollar views. Continue the endless views of the lake from the enclosed porch perfect for enjoying morning coffee. The porch leads to a deck with a picnic table with a charcoal grill.

This house has one window A/C window unit in the Master bedroom for those extra hot days. However the A/C is not available for the entire house but there is plenty of portable fans available and screened windows to let in the lake breezes.

Outside there is a private path leading down to the beach with cart provided to haul your cooler, sand toys, and beach chairs. Some beach chairs and toys are provided for your use. There are also KAYAKS available for your use if desired. Pigeon Lake leading to the Pigeon River are great places to explore on kayaks.

Parking is directly in front of the home along the shared circle drive. Please note the cabin is on top of the hill with steps leading up to it from the circle drive, see pictures. Boat trailer parking is permissible as long as it does not block the drive.

LOCATION

Enjoy the privacy of this cottage as it is tucked back in a gated community with private Lake Michigan access only steps from your door. The home is located half way between Holland and Grand Haven with only a 20 minute drive to either location. Enjoy everything these Harbor Towns have to offer from boutique shopping to Farmer Markets to restaurants and ice cream shops. We also recommend the walk or drive to Sandy Point Beach House for out to eat dining or ice cream. The area offers antique shopping, art galleries, blueberry picking and the coastal towns of Saugatuck and Douglas are a short drive away and great to explore. Grand Rapids is about 45 minutes east and offers dining, breweries, and cultural offerings such as Meijer Gardens and many museums. There is numerous parks nearby that offer hiking and the biking trail is accessible on Lakeshore Dr. directly from the cottage. The bike trail extends from Holland to Grand Haven and beyond and exploring it has been a favorite pastime of our family.

Felt mislead
Mislead on property description and beach being private. Cabin is very tiny and very old. Beach is extremely hard to access and the pictures are very misleading on the website. Would not recommend this property. The cabin smelled old and musty.

Fun cabin
The photos really don't do the place justice. It has a wonderful view of the lake and beach. The inside of the cabin is surprisingly spacious. Initially the kitchen looks inadequate but there was enough there to cook all our meals for our 4 night stay. We actually had planned to go out to eat once but everyone preferred to stay in. It is a bit of a trek over the dunes down to the beach and the house wasn't the easiest to find if you've never been there, but afterwards you realize it's really impossible to get lost. The kids loved everything about it. They had fun at the beach. We had two windy days with big waves for surving/boogie boarding and two calm days that were good for the kayaks.

Fantastic view cottage
Fantastic location. Simple cottage that was very clean and excellent "toys" left for us to use (kayaks, beach chairs, toys, etc). The cottage is simple yet updated ( really like the shower). I would stay here again...but with less people.

About the host

Host profile image
Dave and Pam live in Grand Rapids, MI with our five children, two dogs, and three cats. We love to be active outdoors whether it be biking, hiking, boating, kayaking, or fishing all of which we enjoy doing in West Olive. We look forward to welcoming you to do the same.

Why they chose this property

We choose this property first of all for its breathtaking view and especially for it's accessibility to Lake Michigan via Pigeon Lake as our family enjoys boating and kayaking. The Association also provides many amenities such as the children play areas, fire pits along the lake front, beach volleyball court, and Tennis courts.

What makes this property unique

This property is unique as you are steps away from not only Lake Michigan but also Pigeon Lake where there is a public boat ramp to put in a boat for pleasure or fishing. As a family we love to bike Lakeshore Dr. to anywhere between Holland and Grand Haven. We often stop to hike at such places as Rosy Mounds or visit the Farmers Market or sample the fresh baked breads of Great Harvest Bread Co. in Grand Haven.
