Charming Island House - PRIVATE HEATED POOL! Great for birding!

This island home is your perfect vacation getaway!. Our home is located a short walk or even shorter drive from the beach and fishing pier and the golf course is 1/2 mile away! It is just off the bike trail and Salt Creek playground. The home also backs up to Salt Creek, a quiet creek which is great for birding, fishing, or kayaking from the backyard!

Furnished in the latest island style, this home features a gourmet kitchen with stainless appliances and granite countertops, and 3 bathrooms, one with dual shower heads and another with a deep soaking tub. Three bedrooms have direct bath access. The 4th bedroom upstairs has a tv and games., full size bed and two twin beds with Tuft and Needle mattresses. This room is most comfortable for up to 4 children or 3 adults due to bed sizes (2 twin and 1 full).

The outside life is great on Dauphin Island, and you will enjoy the luxury of your own 12 x 20 heated (off season) fun pool. The entire large back porch is screened in so you can enjoy the outdoor life even more! Note that we do not charge extra for pool heating, and are not responsible if weather conditions or occasional mechanical issues prevent the pool from being warm (the pool is a heat pump and will not function in weather under about 50 degrees).

Also, we do keep bikes at the home but they are provided AS A COURTESY and are not guaranteed. We rely on our guests to ride them carefully to help keep them in good shape. Bike rental places are available on the island if you need a guaranteed bike size, style, or condition.

Check-out instructions

The host requires you to complete the following before checking out:
Load and start the dishwasher
Gather used towels
Remove personal items, remove leftover food and drinks and take out the rubbish
Turn off the lights and lock the doors
Please wash towels as you use them during the week. Last load can be in washer or dryer at departure. Please do not overload
Please clean grill if used and return all beach chairs, etc neatly in storage area below the house
Please keep an eye on the pool water level, leaving the short hose in the pool overnight as it is on a timer. Water must remain halfway up the intake box, please add water if needed.
Failure to complete these may result in a negative review from the host.

The house and pool were very nice!

Dauphin Island is a place to go with family and friends and stay out for the length of vacation. The house was lovely and comfortable and the pool was a must as there just isn't anything else to do in the island.

AMAZING HOME!

We absolutely love this house and the island!!! Everything you need for the beach and the pool is at the home. My son was so excited to find a dump truck in the toy box outside;) Drinking coffee on the front porch was so relaxing! We will be visiting this home again because it was great and Julie makes the renting process a breeze!!!

Exceptional Home on Dauphin Island

We have never stayed in a property so well appointed before … every detail was seen to and well thought out. The kitchen was simply superb with every item imaginable available and in good supply. The same could be said for the entire house, inside and out/poolside. The dorm-style room upstairs proved perfect for the grandkids. The laundry was exceptionally handy. Closets and storage kept us easily organized. The owners were extremely accommodating, personable, and attentive … genuinely caring for our needs. We simply cannot recommend this home enough!

Excellent family home

We left our stay here. It was great to divide our time between swimming in the pool, kayaking down the salt creek to the bay and going to the beach. The house is laid out nicely for a family group. It was close to everything, including the bakery, the store, the beach, restaurants, and did I mention the bakery. Julie was very responsive and we had some trouble with the dishwasher. She got it fixed right away. It was nice to have the bikes available as well as beach equipment. Thank you again for allowing us to stay.

Beautiful secluded retreat

This house may not be on the beach or have Gulf or Bay views, but that’s fine. It’s on a large secluded lot very close to everything. So, if you want a little privacy and peace and quiet, this home is perfect. The kitchen was modern and well-equipped and the main level is open and comfortable. The bed in the master bedroom was so comfortable that we went out the day after we got home and purchased a similar mattress topper. The rest of the house is quite nice with much more space than the 2 of us could ever use. I could imagine a large family being very happy here. The owners were great to work with, and check-in/out directions were simple. Plenty of parking, warm pool, bikes. And it’s almost like being in the middle of a nature preserve with the variety of birds that visit. Our first visit to Dauphin Island and we will be back.

Truly Magical!!!

WOW! This was the perfect vacation house for our bird watching trip! The house was quite spacious! The beds were super comfortable – which was very welcome after a day spent walking and exploring. The house did not lack any amenities. I do love going places and finding the fridge totally empty and ready for our groceries - that was great! My husband spent much of his time on his computer and the internet speed was perfect for his needs as well. The kitchen is well appointed though I never did take time to cook- we got takeout from the local area restaurants daily and sat out on the screen porch to enjoy our dinners. The backyard is quite large and very private and with the canal and trees- it was just so peaceful watching the birds while we ate. The outdoor furniture is very comfy and I would often find my husband asleep out there! After birding all morning we would take mid-day breaks and come home and jump In the pool and get refreshed before our afternoon and early evening explorations! After the first day I would not go out to the pool without my camera as I never knew what kind of bird would pop by while we were out there. I had not expected that the house itself would become such a hot spot for birds! One day new were out exploring all the bird hot spots- and we were in search of the painted bunting. We had no luck. When we got back to the house and pulled in the driveway- what was in the yard?? A painted bunting!!! Here is a list of birds we found in the yard at the house: Painted Bunting!, Indigo Bunting (50+), Green Heron, Great Blue Heron, Osprey, Eastern Bluebird, Blue Grosbeak, Rose Breasted Grosbeak, Summer Tanager, Cedar Waxwings, Yellow-throated Warbler, Common Yellow-throat, Great Crested Flycatcher, Common Nighthawk, Belted Kingfisher, Blue-headed Vireo, Pine Warbler, Hooded Warbler, Swainson's Thrush, Orchard Oriole, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Solitary Sandpiper, Northern Cardinal, Mockingbird, Blue Jay, Mourning Dove, Red-bellied Woodpecker, House Wren, Carolina Wren, Brown Pelican, American Robin, Fish Crow, Laughing Gull, Cowbird!! I am still amazed!! I loved the mid island location- anyplace we wanted to go was just a few minutes away. Julie was very quick to answer any questions and was the perfect hostess! We will be back!!!

Great stay!

This home was exactly as advertised. Close to everything this quiet island has to offer. Pool was fantastic! Store room was stocked with everything you could think of from bikes to beach equipment and everything in between! Ample towels, comfy beds and plenty of space for the 8 adults in our group. The homes built in ice maker was the cherry on top for this stay. It was so nice to not have to purchase ice and have plenty on hand for drinks and coolers! 10 out of 10 would recommend this home!

Girl’s Family vacay

We had a very relaxing family girls vacation and enjoyed it immensely!! The beds were very comfortable and so much space ! Herons nest -dauphin island house was just as described! It was so close to the golf course and restaurants and shops . The house decor was great , and had a wonderful vacation peaceful vibe to it. ALL the extras : games, pool accessories, bikes .. and anything you might need if you forgot to pack . We especially enjoyed the pool and the bird watching was awesome- yes we did get to see the herons and so many other birds !! and also a big plus - the host was quick to respond to any questions .

Amazing property!

My family of six thoroughly enjoyed this house! The space was great and there were so many amenities, including lots of pool floaties and beach toys. The pool was definitely our favorite part! The trees surrounding the property made it feel very private and secluded, which was great. We all felt so comfortable here! When we had an issue with the oven not working, Julie was so easy to get a hold of and solved the problem quickly. The only thing I would add is towels for the pool. We drove so it wasn’t a big deal to bring our own, but if people are flying in, it might be more of a hassle to bring them along. We would definitely stay here again!!

Family Fun

Great time at this lovely home. We really enjoyed having the pool as a break from the beach. The ping pong table and corn hole was nice to have too. I will miss my morning coffee on the front porch.

We are Steve and Julie Kenney. We have built many homes on Dauphin Island, but are now focusing on our custom closet business. We have three sons (two married) and a two grandchildren! . We love Dauphin Island and all there is to do, and the time we spend together, just hanging out at our Dauphin Island homes with family and friends.

Why they chose this property

We purchased the property this home is built on in 2004, the day before Hurricane Ivan flooded the 50 year old home that sat (flat on the ground). We loved this property because of its unique setting on the island - a large, grassy, beautiful location along Salt Creek - just a minute from the beach!

What makes this property unique

Our home has the unique benefit of being centrally located yet private. You'll have lots of place to park and a grassy yard to play in, in addition to a private pool and easy access to the beaches.
