About this property

Historical Blue Wing Landing Inn, near the Ark Encounter.

1850 Historical home fully restored with updated amenities for your convenience. The main house consist of 3000 square feet. We are a working cattle farm, most likely you will be able to see baby cows frolicking with thier moms. You enter via the back porch which does have 5 steps. The home boast a Full kitchen with a working fireplace, laundry room with dishwasher, washer & dryer. The living room faces the lake and river, and includes a working fireplace. There is the dining room with a table that seats 8 comfortably and another fold out antique table that seats four more. In the library you will find lots of great books to read, a closet full of board games, cards and roughly 150 Dvds for rainy days. Some CD's (feel free to play your own music) & a Half bath. Upstairs you will find my favorite spot, a downfilled sofa with a giant window overlooking the lake. The most cozy reading spot ever! The Heron room holds a king size bed, wardrobe, dressers, vanity and a reading chair. Full bath off of the master. (Roll away bed resides here and can be moved any where upstairs, this bed is counted when I state 15 guest!!) The Huntsmen room has an antique fullsize bed as well as a twin, chaise lounge and dresser. The Cozy bunk room houses an antique brass twin bed with a roll out trundle bed, dresser and closet. The Steamboat room has a full bed and antique twin bed, dresser and closet. Across the hall you will find the adorable full bathroom with a tub for our junior guests! Oh, I also keep a pack-n-play upstairs for your use (no linens). Note there is no satellite TV per our customers request. Right out the back door you will find the Cook's Cabin. This houses a new woodburning stove/air conditioner, new queen size bed, desk & chair, sofa, coffee table reading chairs and electricity. (I am including this space when I state 15 guests). Located on the Kentucky River. Boats welcome. You have access to free kayaks and paddle boards throughout your stay. There are wonderful marked hiking trails on 240 acres. Centrally located 1 hour from Cincinnati, Louisville and Lexington in Owenton, Kentucky. 24 miles from the Ark Encounter. Activities can include; corn hole, swimming and fishing. There is one fire pit with screen for cooking or making s'mores. There is a
20’ x 40’ pavilion with 8 picnic tables along with a wood burning grill located in front of the house on our 6 acre stocked lake. Fishing licenses can be purchased on line prior to your arrival. There is NO wifi at this destination. You can recieve phone calls and text from the backyard and pavilion. We encourage our guests to disconnect with thier everyday activities, and reconnect with each other, nature and ultimately God.

Very disappointed.
I loved the house but there were so many things wrong , it was hard to enjoy it. The cabin, porch, and grill were VERY dirty. Inside the floors were not mopped There were only seven forks( for up to 15 people.) I knew we would see a few bugs but i didn't count on multiple mice (which we saw every night) there were droppings and traps everywhere, so keep nothing on the counters! We never saw the dock it was to overgrown

A Perfect Quiet Retreat
We enjoyed Blue Wing Landing for three nights with my wife, our four children ages 15 to 8, and my father. The history of the property is incredible and the setting is idyllic. The most vivid experience was the fireflies in the evenings with the adjacent fields and surrounding trees offering an incredible light show. I appreciated the out-of-the-way location especially the accompanying quiet of the property. The accommodations were definitely comfortable for our group. The kids enjoyed the kayaks and we did make use of the outside fire-pit for roasting marshmallows! The river access required sure footing with a slippery slope down to a dock that was not in very good shape. The pond and paths around the property offered plenty of exploration.

Our Second Trip to Blue Wing Landing
The perfect off the beaten path inn for a senior summer camp experience complete with a lake and access to a river. A great historic house and cabin. Lots to do on the grounds. A great base for daily local excursions.

Great Experience!
The house and grounds are absolutely beautiful. There is plenty of room for the family to congregate in and outside the house. The grounds are beautiful with plenty of safe places for kids to run and explore. A lot of work is put into maintaining the property. There were a few things that weren't expected/great for our group. I was unsure of check-in/out procedures until the day of. You do have to schedule time to meet to be let into the house. Amber and Will were very nice and helpful when we met them. The house is not wonderful for toddlers The stairs are steep and each individual step is not very wide making it where you have to think about the placement of your foot on each step. The windows are not sealed as a paper in the house stated. My three year old was fascinated with the locks on the upstairs windows as they were perfect height for her. She was able to open a window in the time it took me to put toothpaste on my toothbrush while in the same room with me. The overall cleanliness of the house was great especially in kitchen and bathrooms a few bugs/dust in corners which is to be expected in an old house. The couches were definitely dated and worn out. We were unable to find baking pans in the kitchen which we needed for several meals, but we were able to make do. We were slightly disappointed in the "swimming" and lack of cows. We went in knowing swimming was only a possibility, but the water in the river was running fast and there was no way to easily get in and out of the water. The trail to the river was beautiful but the short distance between the trail and the dock was hard to walk, especiallywith a 3 year old and 68 year old. There were no cows on the property which we were all looking forward to. The drive to the Ark was a bit further than the discription, but not too bad. The overall experience was wonderful and we would definitely return if the opportunity presents itself. We wish we had more time to explore all the hiking trails and do some kayaking.

About the host

We are Doug and Kathleen Martin. We semi-retired to Owen County in 2014 built our dream house overlooking the Kentucky river. Very shortly thereafter our neighbor asked if we would like to purchase his historical farm. (attached to our farm) Viola! Blue Wing Landing Inn & Outfitters was born! We adore our new roles as Innkeepers, tour guides and firstmate boatmen. This is such an amazing place to disconnect with your everyday routine and reconnect with each other and nature! We would be delighted to host you at the Inn and or take you out for a fantastic bow fishing trip!

Why they chose this property

We are located on a secluded peninsula surrounded by the beautiful Kentucky River. We provide free kayaks and paddle boards for our guests enjoyment along with life jackets of course. We are an Agri-tourism farm where you can watch and carefully pet the cows. Bow fishing tours available.

What makes this property unique

Our house is so cozy in all seasons. The history story is enlightening and you just have an overwhelming sense of peace and serenity. Gorgeous rolling hay fields and stunning sunsets. Lovely views of the woods, fields and lake. Plenty of room in the house and outside. Please come, see for yourselves and create your own memories and experiences.
