Very nice place and was a cute remodelthey did. Everything we needed was provided and we had plenty of room to let our 2 grandsons run and play.
I would definitely stay there again.
Our family stayed for 6 nights. Great location for a family doing “family” friendly activities. Across the street from 1880 Train Depot. Our 5.5 year old loved seeing the train each day. The house was clean, stocked with all needed items, and was in a great location so we were not having to drive too far each day for our activities.
This property was centrally located to everything we wanted to do. Ken greeted us upon arrival and gave us some great suggestions for food and travel options. This is a nicely remodeled older home with charm and quirks. We made use of the grill and the fire pit and enjoyed that it was walking distance from the downtown area. Our only concerns were the lack of banisters on the stairs (no one had any trouble going up and down, we were probably more careful for the lack) and that the water didn't get hotter than tepid. Neither of which we mentioned to Ken at the time, because they were minor. We had a lovely time and would highly recommend this property.
We had a great time in Hill City. Ken was very accommodating and friendly. The property was centrally located, which was great for mealtimes and being able to just walk down the road to get pizza or sit down at a restaurant. The 1800s train stop is right across the street, but the noise wasn't bad at all. It doesn't run super early or late, so it doesn't interfere with sleep at all. We loved walking downtown and visiting the shops. We particularly enjoyed the popcorn/nut shop with the delicious old-fashioned taffy.
The only thing I noticed that was different from the listing is that it said there were two queen and two twin beds upstairs - but in actuality, it's just one queen bed in the upstairs bedroom, two twin beds on the upper landing outside the bedroom, and a little futon (this is in addition to the two bedrooms with queens on the main floor and two twins in the basement). It changed our sleeping arrangements a bit, but it wasn't anything we couldn't handle.
The location is perfect! The home is so cozy and clean. Ken is prompt to respond to questions and is so accommodating. I appreciate his hospitality and the work he puts into this property for people to enjoy. I would love to stay here again if we end up in Hill City for another event.
House was very roomy and comfortable. Walking distance to down town. Comfortable beds and nice bathrooms. Could have had newer pans for kitchen. Host left coffee and filters for our use. Would definitely stay there again.
Our stay was fun, we were there to spend time with family who live in the area. The house was as expected. Ken was friendly and available to be reached. The refrigerator wasn’t working but we didn’t need it so it wasn’t an issue, and he had already ordered a new one and came and installed it during our stay.
Friendly host. Great location in Hill City. Close to downtown, coffee, walking trail, and grocery. We barely used our car. Pet friendly and clean. Can’t wait to get back.
This home was within walking distance of downtown Hill City, 1880 train depot, and the Mickelson trail. It was a convenient home base for exploring custer state park, mt rushmore, and needles highway. Our group of 4 adults and 2 teens were very comfortable in the home. Everything you'd need to set up house for a group was supplied.
The house was easy to find, clean and check in was a easy. Our group of 4 stayed for 4 nights and had plenty of personal space. I made dinner several nights of our stay. The kitchen had all the basics I needed. The beds were all freshly laundered and the house was clean. My only recommendations to the owner would be... 1) to properly secure the dishwasher as it kept tipping out of the cabinet when the door was open, 2) add a few more bedside tables so that people with medical CPAPs have a place to put them by the beds, and 3) freshen up the towels as they are getting a bit thin and worn. All in all, we had a great stay and would definitely stay in the Rail house again.
Great location in the heart of the Hills. Lots of quiet space-3 floors and I couldn't hear anything going on downstairs on the main level while I was upstairs napping.
Owner responded quickly to our requests and issues that arose. The house provided TP, paper towels, awesome washer and dryer with detergent. It was super close to everything. Walk downtown to shop and eat. Train was across the street, but we were not bothered by the noise. There was a little street noise. Stairs were a little steep. Porch was nice to sit out and nice grassy fenced yard for the dog.
