Our Mountain Home ... Away from Home.

Our stay at Nighthawk's Rest was, by far, the highlight of our year. My partner and I decided to pursue a long-term stay in Montana for the summer and booked this gorgeous getaway for two months. It turned out to be exactly what we were looking for: a home with the creature comforts of modern living nestled into a remote landscape with close access to all that the great outdoors had to offer. I can't say enough good things about our stay, or the hospitality we received. Scott and Renee made us feel at home from the moment we met & went above and beyond to ensure we had everything (and more) that we needed. They generously shared insights on just about anything we mentioned, from huckleberry picking and overnight camping to lending us gear and offering to help with pick ups/drop offs, if needed. This experience was made all the greater thanks to their kindness, friendship and good humor. The house itself was perfect for our needs -- we both were working remotely during the week and had ample space to get settled and WiFi to connect via video calls. We both are avid cooks and were greatly appreciative of how well stocked the kitchen was! Any appliance, tool, or pot/pan size we needed was handy AND in brand new condition. Access to both a gas and charcoal grill, plus a patio for daily outdoor dining, was also a plus. And then there's the property -- wow. Nighthawk's Rest is nestled into the back corner of a very special plot of land with access to ample trails and scenic views. We loved having deer & wild turkey as regular companions, and cherished a surprise visit from a bull moose early one morning! For those looking to get outdoors on the weekend, this is your spot. While our initial plans were to spend most weekends in Glacier NP, we found ourselves with ample alternatives throughout the Kootenai, Kaniksu and Lolo National Forests -- incredible hikes/campsites that we often had all to ourselves. Long story (not so ) short -- we can't recommend this location enough and are already hoping to make Nighthawk's Rest an annual stay, if we can.

Peaceful, comfortable, and welcoming

Our flight was delayed and we arrived at the house, with our three almost-grown children, after 9:30 pm. Scott went out of his way to make sure we didn't get lost and helped us to feel at home right from the start. The ambience of the home and the surrounding land and country are so peaceful . There is a fabulous uphill hike to the national forest right outside the door. Over three days we saw birds, wildflowers, elk, and a very self-absorbed black bear. The house is perfectly appointed and the kitchen had everything (even a salad spinner), but wasn't at all cluttered. We, quite literally, would start to think, "it would be nice if they had _________," and then we'd find it right where we needed it (down to the night lights for the bathroom). Cell service in the area is limited, but wifi service in the house was strong and consistent. We all had our own comfortable beds and sleeping with the windows open let in the cool, fresh air. One morning we woke to the sound of wild turkeys outside. The surrounding area provided kayaking, fishing, hiking, etc. and there is an adequate small grocery not too far away. Quality restaurants in the area were practically non-existent, but we were happy to eat in and enjoy the peace and quiet. We hope to return to enjoy the area and Scott's house again.
