About this property

Unique 3 BR, 2 BR Waterfront Home/Vacation Getaway in Syracuse, Indiana

OVERVIEW

This is the PERFECT vacation getaway year-round home with unique high grade amenities you will NOT find on other lake properties. The home has wide doorways and open concept floor plan with central heating and cooling for year-round enjoyment. Lots of water activities and great fishing right off the three docks with covered front porch with large area to entertain.

OUTSIDE AMENITIES

Escape the noise of the busy main water to a quieter area of Lake Syracuse. Ninety-six (96) feet of water frontage and three docks (one with seating) await you. Bring your own boat and park on our dedicated pier for renters or rent a boat at the nearby marina only a couple miles away. Boat launch is just a few blocks from the house. We have life jackets, two knee boards, skis, two kayaks and a canoe available free of charge with the rent of our home. It is a short boat ride to two connected fast boating lakes. There is also a sandbar on Lake Syracuse and one on Lake Wawasee (which is much larger and busier) where the water is 3 to 4 feet deep so park your boat and have a picnic or go for a quick swim. There is lots of fishing on both 3000-acre Lake Wawasee and 400-acre Lake Syracuse. Fish include largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, black crappie, walleye, bluegill, bream, red ear sunfish, yellow perch and northern pike. Don’t have the lake toys you need? Bart’s Watersports is a large water wear and sport equipment warehouse with a showroom just 7 miles down the road!

There is a sandy beach with roped off swimming area just a few blocks from the house on Syracuse lake front and is within easy walking distance. Just an additional 10-15 minute walk will get you to an even larger beach and park with playground equipment and many picnic tables and right across from the community center. Beach toys are available and located in the bedroom closet.

On the lake side, enjoy lounging or sunbathing in the four lounge chairs or swing on the 2-person swing. Private waterfront dining awaits you at the two picnic tables or four-person patio table. Enjoy roasting s'mores over the fire pit to close the evening on a high note (bring your own wood). Marshmallow/hot dog roasting sticks, pudgy pie irons are also included in your stay. Speakers from the living room stereo surround sound can even be programmed to outside for your dining enjoyment.

On the street side, there is a gas grill and a large covered patio with seating for six at the table and additional side seating and a tiki bar for extra counter space. Outside plug-ins are added for your convenience. There is also an outside shower at the far corner to shower off the lake and sand.

There is also room for plenty of lakeside outdoor games that are available for use.

Outside parking easily fits four vehicles in the concrete drive and four on the side street including plenty of space for a long pontoon trailer.

BEDROOMS

The master bedroom has a California King bed and plenty of dresser space and two large closets. One is available for use. The other is locked with some of the owner’s items. A TV and DVD player and jetted deep tub in the master bath make for a relaxing experience. An I pod charger/player is also located in the master bedroom. The second bedroom has a TV and DVD player, closet and dresser with a queen size bed. The third bedroom has a king size bed and closet space. Extra bed linens in both second and third bedroom closets. All bedrooms have lighted ceiling fans. There are additional air beds as well.

MAIN BATHROOM AND LAUNDRY ROOM

Laundry room is off the main bathroom and has a large capacity washer and dryer. Laundry detergent and fabric softener are provided. Utility closet with fuse box and water softener is off the laundry room. Bathroom has large shower (no tub) and spacious vanity with drawers for your belongings. Basic toiletries, hair dryer and flat iron are provided.

LIVING ROOM/DINING ROOM

There is a large projector screen and ceiling projector to watch movies off the living room DVD player. There is a small video library provided. A lighted ceiling fan in the middle of the room and recessed corner lighting with a dimmer switch provide ample light when needed.

Surround sound furthers your entertainment enjoyment with CD player stereo system. Speakers can even be programmed to outside. High speed internet accessibility enhances your experience and helps you stay in touch with others. There is no cable, on purpose! Enjoy our board games, cards, toys, or books, or bring your own. The large couch and oversized chair both recline fully to provide additional sleeping space. There is also a smaller Queen Anne style chair that reclines. Two air beds are also provided for even additional sleeping space and there is plenty of room on the floor to lay them down.

Business travelers: Use your laptop and hook into a provided extra monitor if needed. Bright cheerful colors and up to date furnishings provide for a soothing getaway and allow you to accomplish a lot of work, or let the family rest, and you work and join them when you can. Basic office supplies also available.

Dining area has four chairs. There is additional seating on front porch and card table and chairs provide additional seating.

KITCHEN

We don't want you to have to pack like you are camping! Just bring your food. There are pots, pans, baking sheets, baking dishes, measuring and serving ware, silverware, 2 crock pots, blender, toaster, and dishes. Refrigerator is side-by-side with ice maker. Electric range, stove and overhead microwave are provided. Garbage disposal and three-section sink eases food preparation.

Many additional amenities such as Keurig as well as 10 cup coffee maker with coffee and filters are provided. Various spices, plastic containers, foil, paper towels, plastic wrap, dish detergent, and dishwasher detergent are available.

For babies: There is a baby gate, Pack and Play and high chair that you will find in the closet. No need to bring with you!

NEIGHBORHOOD

The house is one block from the police and fire station. A park is across the street. Great neighbors and friendly and safe neighborhood. City water and sewer so no well water odor (nasty odors are often present with well and septic at the lake after a good rain)! New water softener in the home. Local antique shops and Amish shops just a short drive away if you are craving Amish baked goods or want to buy some unique crafts. An Artisan Marketplace and farmer's market can also be found just a block away on Saturday mornings to help you round out your meals . The S.S. Lillypad, a houseboat that sits on Lake Wawasee, offers terrific dining, live music, and enchanting views of the water as it cruises around the lake.

GETTING AROUND

Step on the trail and circle the lake on your bike or jog or walk. Parking on one of the dedicated piers comes with your rental. It is less than 5-minute boat ride to main ski lake and then through channel to another ski lake that is even larger (Wawasee). Boat or jet ski up to several restaurants from the lake and there are two gas stations on the lakes with a marina for boat rental.

South Bend Airport: 1 hour 5 minutes (45.7 miles)
Fort Wayne Airport: 1 hour 17 minutes (53.6 miles)
Chicago O'hare Airport: 2 hours 57 minutes (139 miles)

There are lots of area restaurants to try (we provide a list in the information binder to our guests). Three are accessible by land or boat!

Check out one of the three golf courses (Maxwelton Golf Course, South Shore Golf Course, or Wawasee Golf Course) or the local movie theater or bowling alley. They are all within a few miles of the house, and the movie theater and bowling alley are within walking distance.

Friday and Saturday nights have live bands and dancing at the Frog restaurant and Oakwood Resort. The home is on a corner lot so neighbors are not too close. There are many bike and walking paths in town and a very active library and community center. The local grocery store is less than a mile down the road.

Comfortable accommodations for boating and fishing
This was a great place to house three teens for a week of sailing camp. The roofed porch proved a llifesaver during our four days of scattered showers, and the home theater set-up and large collection of DVDs was fun. The kitchen is very well-stocked. We also appreciated the piers, extensive outdoor seating, and convenient location.

Nice property-would return & recommend
This home was as described. We were not disappointed. We brought our ski boat and were able to dock at the pier with no issues. Best part was it was on a channel so your boat doesn’t get beat up and the launch is almost across the street! The negatives were few but there were a couple. One was that my husband left his shoes on the dedicated pier and somebody walked off with them. We had to scramble to find shoes-luckily Dollar General was open. Another was the blinds are not light blocking so when the sun comes shining in those who like to sleep, as our friends do, could not & the blinds in the 3rd bedroom were broken deeming that room unusable as they would not come down. The only other improvement I could suggest is a decent sized skillet-all the skillets we could find were only omelette sized. With that being said, we enjoyed the home and would recommend it and we would definitely return.

About the host

Hosted by Carol White

Host profile image
I am a triple board certified nurse practitioner. I clinically practice weekly as well as am CEO of a consulting firm with attorneys across the country. I also teach for Indiana Wesleyan University in the graduate nursing program. Our children are older so we do not get to use our lake home as much as we used to, so wanted to share it with others.

Why they chose this property

It is well build and has many amenities. We rebuilt this home in 2008 and have not really used it much since then. Our children got older and less interested so even though built in 2008, it feels newer. The property has many amenities other lake properties do not have as I look at the "competition". It is in a very safe location. The fishing is great right off the property, and there are two beaches within a mile of the home. The added high speed internet, inside and outside stereo sound, and projection for movies are all unique finds not seen at many lake properties. A business traveler might choose this location for one or two nights, or a family may have a great holiday here to relax.

What makes this property unique

We love being on the quiet end of the lake, but being close to the fast boating. It is very quiet, so if you need to have privacy and get work done, this is an excellent location. I used to come up on the weekends when I was in school for my doctorate degree and having that time and space for total concentration was one of the big factors that got me through school. Following your booking, we will ask that you sign a standard rental agreement that includes that you leave the place as you found it. We look forward to your stay!
