About this property
Glen Arbor's Historic Glencrest Cottage
This historic home, built in 1870, on an acre of land across from Big Glen Lake , has two glass-enclosed front porches that are the center of activity. The house has three private bedrooms and a wicker day bed on one of the two enclosed porches.
Watch the sun set through the trees on the lake or enjoy your morning coffee as you witness the early morning light. This park-like setting includes mature walnut trees, a circular drive and access just minutes away to Lake Michigan, Big Glen Lake, Sleeping Bear Dunes and the quaint town of Glen Arbor.
In addition to the three private bedrooms (sleeps 6-8) and two full bathrooms, there is a dining room, living room, and kitchen. The large master bedroom on the first floor also has a day bed and a walk-in closet. Furnished with antiques and “Up North” Cottage character, this home is a comfortable retreat from the fun in the sun of the beaches of Lake Michigan.
Hike the dunes, have a sunset fire on the beach, kayak Crystal River, boat/ski on Big and Little Glen Lake, or just wander the town of Glen Arbor and enjoy the art galleries, restaurants, live music and the friendly people who call this corner of the world home.
Located on S. Dunn's Farm Road at the base of Miller Hill Rd, this historic home once had established orchards of apples, cherries and pears which were shipped to the Chicago market from Glen Haven. Pick up a copy of the book “Historic Cottages of Glen Arbor” by Barbara Siepker at the Cottage Book Shop on Lake Street and learn more about the history of this house. If you enjoy old world charm and the feel of a real “up north cottage” then this is the home for you.

About the host
Hosted by Katie Rabidoux
We were introduced to the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore area about 30 years ago. We spent every summer camping with friends and family. After so many years vacationing we became interested in finding a piece we could call our own. We knew instantly the farmhouse that happened to be abandoned and for sale, and one I was always intrigued by while cycling around the lake, was the perfect place for us. We literally breathed life back into the place renovating as much as we can every year and what the budget will allow over time, while trying to preserve the feel of one of the original farmhouses in the area. To this day we consider it a labor of love and an ongoing relationship that continues to provide our family, our friends and our guests with memories that last a life time. We are proud to call this a place we can take care of and share with others.
Why they chose this property
After 15 years of vacationing in Sleeping Bear Dunes, we decided to see what was on the market. We knew immediately in 2007 when we purchased the home that we wanted to breath life back in to this farmhouse. We completed a renovation on our primary home that happened to have a lot of similarities to Glencrest Cottage. Both were built during the 1860'-70's. Both have withstood the test and weather of time and still retain such a wonderful charm and warm surroundings that links us to the past.
