Beautiful old stone house with a well stocked kitchen, comfy beds, and very accommodating hosts. We took our paddle board and went directly to the water and launched. Water was so calm Overall very chill place to get away

A charming stone cottage on the lake, full of quaint antique details. We stayed two nights in May while on a birding holiday. The cottage was peaceful and our stay relaxing. The hosts answered all questions quickly.

Needed a few days of R&R and this property delivered. We spent many hours sitting on the dock and when the rain came we moved inside and enjoyed the view from in there. The house was clean, cozy and just what we needed. Will be back!

Hi Dorothy, thank you very much for the wonderful review. We are so happy you hear you appreciated the historic charm of the Stonehouse!
Outstanding cottage! Would recommend for a relaxing vacation
The property was great. The gazebo in back was used a great deal for card games and socializing. Any problems were quickly resolved by the owner. Just be careful of the shower it is very slippery. Everything you need is at the co-op store if you run short. Enjoy your stay!

Thanks for leaving a review! We are happy to hear you enjoyed the gazebo and the nearby amenities. And thanks for letting us know about the shower; we will see if we can do anything to make the floor less slippery.
Gorgeous old limestone home. Well outfitted kitchen, clean home, screened gazebo & bbq handy.
Lovely view of the lake from front porch & dock sitting.
Access to Netflix via your satellite service, even watched one of your DVDs. Weather was perfect, so no time to play any board games you had for "just in case".
Would absolutely recommend this gem of a property.

Thanks for taking the time to leave such a wonderful review! We are so happy you enjoyed the Stonehouse and our property.
It is a lovely solid old stone cottage that has been maintained very well and has all the conveniences. The beds are very comfortable and it has a well fitted out kitchen. There is a lovely view over the water and a great screened in gazebo for those evenings when the bugs are a bother. It probably would best suit adults though there is a big grass front garden to set up badminton.

Awesome place, beautiful historic cottage on the island. Very comfortable cottage and well appointed. We enjoyed the bakery, Stone House restaurant and winery. The highlight was cooking at the cottage and enjoying the lake views. We came at an off peak time with not the best weather, but had a blast, one of the best trips of the year for my wife and I. We had some issues getting to the island due to weather and ferry cancellations and lost a night. Andrea and Alex were quick to offer a refund for that night. We ended up making it over the next morning and I’m glad we did! We biked around the island after a comfortable nap. Fun place to stay, beautiful island, hiking, biking and beaches. We look forward to coming back!

Thanks for sharing your feedback.
We are very sorry to hear a noise was keeping you up the first night of your stay. The cottage's water system is in the basement and it's possible the pump and associated piping was making the noise. We have someone who takes care of the water system for us - we'll ask them to look into what might be causing the noise.
Happy to learn everything else was good.

Could be a 5/5. We gave this a 3/5 only because the cottage needs a spring cleaning. The door windows were green, screens covered with debris. I noticed mildew on the broken blinds and the cords needed a wash. The bathtub surround had a line of mold and the glass shower doors had scale and mildew inside, but especially outside where they slide over each other. The bedroom air conditioners should be cleaned or replaced as the output is stuffy and smelly. And, in a place that has glorious original architecture and thoughtful updates, to block off the air conditioner window spaces with random plastic board and peeling duct tape? After a rough first night: mildewy, stuffy, with pillows that felt like bolsters, we slept well the next nights by forgetting the air conditioner and leaving the front door open to the screen door for air flow (a lock would be nice… ) and putting our pillow cases on the softer sofa throw pillows. The cottage was a welcoming place to return to throughout our days of exploring. I’m a big fan of fine craftsmanship and, wow, this place has it! I couldn’t stop noticing and admiring the details. I didn’t think to bring a bath mat, so used the hand towel I brought as a mat. I don’t bring beach towels either, and should have. The mattresses were extremely comfortable. So much so that we will order one when we get home. We loved sitting out on the front stone porch watching the amazing bird life. We cooked big breakfasts at the cottage and found places to e

This is the perfect place to explore Pelee Island from. Clean and welcoming, the cottage is restored beautifully. The view is wonderful from the front porch! The owners were quick to respond to our questions to ensure a perfect stay. Loved the location -- just down the road from the bakery. Would definitely return!!!

Hi Jackie, thanks so much for your lovely review! We love hearing about what guests enjoyed are we are thrilled to see that you had a nice stay with us. We look forward to welcoming you back again!
My husband and I enjoyed our stay on Pelee Island and at the quaint stone house. We had everything that we needed. Lots of room in the kitchen and bedrooms as well as the living room. Beautifully decorated throughout. We enjoyed our drinks on the deck along the water’s edge along with the gorgeous sunsets. There was plenty of firewood to enjoy a campfire in the evening as well. The location was perfect, just down the street from the wonderful Bakery and a 10 minute drive to and from the ferry.
We had a couple of concerns with our stay, one being that the sign-“Barefoot Cottages” must have come down in a storm as it was not posted as per the directions so we had to ask a local where the cottage was. Perhaps the address number of the cottage should be included in the directions? The stove top was not cleaned by the last tenant or cleaning staff and there was quite a bit of burnt food left on the surface. I did my best to clean the surface but could not locate a stove smooth top cleaner to do a proper job.
Overall it was a perfect getaway!

Hi Sharon. Thanks for providing a review. We are delighted to hear you enjoyed our beautiful location! It turns out our sign did blow away in a big storm just before you arrived; we've since found it and will make sure next season it is secured better. We are also very sorry to hear about the stove top. This should have been cleaned properly before you checked in.
It was a very relaxing vaction at this historic cottage that has been updated. Great view across the street. Very well equipped kitchen and cottage.

About the host
Hosted by Andrea & Alex
Alex grew up on Pelee Island’s west shore and his childhood summers revolved around lake activities. We met on the island, then got married on Pelee as we wanted to share this special place with our friends and family. When we had our two boys, we planned to make Pelee a part of their lives as well. We were excited to purchase the stone house and bungalow to give us a launching point for those moments, and also to share with guests to make their own. After purchasing the property, we learned Alex’s ancestor, Alexander McCormick was the original owner / builder of the stone house. We hope you and your family can build your own memories at Barefoot Cottages.
