About this property

Chic Farmhse Cottage, private beach, WiFi unlimited streaming/zoom, A/C, 600sf

Perfect for social distancing, bright and private, with southwesterly views of the Blue Hill Bay, fabulous furnished, private and covered deck plus a private garden with a fire pit and access to a private beach. The enclosed garden is accented by flowering magnolia, wild raspberry bushes, which you are welcome to pick when in season (late July early August), crabapple trees and hydrangeas, great for relaxing on the Adirondack chairs, nap in the hammock, enjoy the starry Maine night sky, roast marshmallows by the fire pit or dine al fresco at the bistro set. A wooded path to the beach is mere steps away and the cobblestoned parking area accommodates two cars. Being nestled in a corner of the pristine American Legion woods, the property is the perfect setting for wildlife sightings, swimming, kayaking and fishing. Hiking trails are all around, ranging from easy, short and flat to more challenging terrains and elevations.
The interior is scrupulously appointed with authentic mid-century modern classics mixed with some farmhouse accents. There is a luxuriously comfortable king size bed with high end mattress and a memory foam/green tea infused topper, and high quality percale linens. The apartment is best suited for a couple. Most Maine coastal summer nights are cool, but there is a fan and a/c, which regulates not only the temperature but also the humidity that blows in from the ocean during a few summer days. There is High speed internet (300 Mbps) for unlimited streaming, Direct TV, a bluetooth speaker to play music from your smartphone, tablet or laptop, a small classical guitar for those inclined, binoculars, a chess set, scrabble, dominos and playing cards. A small, eclectic library completes the setting for a leisurely vacation.

The property is two miles away from the quaint Blue Hill village, with a choice of restaurants, two libraries, museums, book stores, wine and cheese shop, gift shops, post office, hospital, two churches and the famous Tradewinds supermarket. Blue Hill is conveniently located for easy access to Stonington, Acadia National Park and Mount Desert Island and is served by Bar Harbor Airport (22 miles) and Bangor International Airport (40 miles.)

A local business called The Activity Shop, rents kayaks, bikes, canoes, paddle boards, sail boats, wet suits & gear. They offer the option of delivering to your doorstep and picking-up when you are done. More leisurely minded activities exist as well, like puffin tours, moose safaris and bird spotting guided walking tours; if you are interested specifically in the puffin viewing boat tour, you would best be advised to plan (weeks ahead) to check dates for availability.

I am usually around for a chat to share ideas for activities that might interest you and answer any questions. I'm always interested in meeting people and learning new things.

The most incredible visit
I booked this cottage for my boyfriend’s birthday in October and he said this was his favorite trip. Prior to booking I wasn’t sure where exactly in Maine we wanted to stay/visit as we always just wanted to go. Blue Hill is a must! The town was so charming and had the most incredible sandwich shop, accompanied by the best wine shop we’ve ever found that makes their own bread with the nicest staff! Aside from the town, Fabiola was the most incredible host even though we were a bit calamitous. She checked in on us and let us have our privacy for being just next door in her guest house. I would go again in a heart beat if she would have us! Her cottage is so charming and clean. I can’t say enough how this trip exceeded everything I expected. It was like being immersed into a movie!

Everything we needed!
We had an incredible stay at Fabiola's cottage! Fabiola was incredibly communicative, and she greeted us when we arrived. She offered us a tour of the property, and she even put together the cutest welcome basket for us -- with a dog for our pup! The apartment was spotless, warm, and cozy. We enjoyed the fire pit in the evenings, and Fabiola had made sure that we had fire wood and lighters available. There is also a huge fenced in yard that was perfect for our dog. He loved being able to run free! We stayed in the apartment and drove to Acadia every day for hikes, and it worked out wonderfully. The kitchen had everything we needed to make small dinners for ourselves at home and rest before the next day's adventure. If you are looking for a quiet and relaxing place to stay with your pet as a home base for exploring the national park, look no further!

Absolutely Incredible
Fabiola is an awesome hostess!❤️. She thought of everything to make our stay comfortable a basket full of goodies and keepsakes to a toy for our dog. ( which is now his favorite toy) Awesome play dates with her pup,Otto. But seperate yards in case they don’t get along. She was available but respected our privacy. The accommodations were very private. The private beach was awesome. The bed was very comfortable, a cute kitchen with all the amenities needed. Can’t say enough about our stay a Bluehill Cottage.5+stars all around.

I guess one could say that our move to Maine falls under the category of "climate change related." This area boasts boondocks affordability with enhanced cultural perks as it is a center for art, music and literature. I came here in 2017, from West LA with my better half, Rocco and our dog, Otto. I am originally from Milan, Italy and have lived in the US ever since my college days in Vermont. Rocco and I love to travel, try new restaurants and visit friends. Between the two of us , we speak several languages: Italian, French, German, Spanish, some Russian and a sprinkle of Mandarin (being Swiss, Rocco is the real polyglot.)
I work for a boutique book printing company, as well as interior design, and Rocco is retired from the banking industry.
We both like jazz and blues, we are movie fans, dog lovers and addicted to pondering our good fortune.
Although we have not lived in Maine for long, we are happy to share the little treasures we have discovered around here. Our culture shock is still fresh enough to enable us to give tips on things that might otherwise seem obvious to a real Mainer--like what time of day deer are most likely to cross the street or what in the world might that strange animal sound be.
We like our privacy and are clean and respectful. We are generally available for a glass of wine on the lawn or we can be invisible according to preference.

Why they chose this property

This property is the perfect distance from town to afford its private, rural feeling. It abuts the wild, coastal forested American Legion property, which accounts for an exciting closeness to nature. For instance, one late night, last spring, my dog and I heard a bloodcurdling scream come from the pitch black woods; both of us were left unsettled by what we had heard, even by morning. I sifted through youtube, ignoring results about Sasquatch and ghosts, until I came across the exact same sound: fox vixen warning cry. Later that month, I put up a deer fence for the dog, but my city self is rather glad that it doubles as deer, turkey, fox, bear, fisher cat and moose keeper-outer.
At a distance just over twice the length of the property, the ocean is close enough to pop down for a swim and far enough not to cause inexorable salt damage to everything we own, and the views are an ever changing spectacle which I still have to force myself to stop photographing with my phone.
From the satellite, Maine has the largest expanse of darkness in the contiguous US which means the starry nights are arresting. The quietness at night was also a huge change from our Los Angeles apartment's special treats, such as waking up to Tuesday morning garbage collection, sirens wailing, hovering helicopters searching for escaped criminals, homeless people having a fit, and music blasting from passing cars. I heard that some city people miss all that noise, but we aren't among them.

What makes this property unique

It's a happy balance of being far enough from civilization without being isolated. Sitting on the lawn or deck is peaceful and nature provides constant change as a setting, whether it's an amazing sunset, colorful foliage, winter "smoke on the water" or flowers, bumblebees and woodpeckers. This property lends itself to the enjoyment of each season. During the summer, the beach is often deserted as it is only used by a handful of neighbors with a ROW. There are hiking paths across the street that double as cross-country skiing and snowshoeing during the winter months. The fall foliage is so vivacious that it hurts your eyes. The spring brings blooms and fresh grass smells. And if I get sick of all this bucolic beauty and want to indulge city urges, I can be in Boston or NYC in under 2 hrs door-to-door. It is the closest thing to heaven for me.
