Guest Access:
Guests will have access to the entire cottage, which is a duplex unit.
The Neighborhood:
Please note that the Melrose Resort (where this cottage is located) is currently closed. However, the beach is just a short walk away. In addition, the equestrian center is now being run by Haig Point, and guests can set up beach and trail rides.
The island is your neighborhood! We have quirky restaurants, a charming coffee shop, art galleries, a rum distillery, local artisan businesses, and historic sites to explore on Daufuskie! In addition, visitors may want to consider some of the available activities.

Captain Chris offers dolphin-watching, fishing, crabbing, and shrimping excursions. Please tell him we referred you.
Horseback Riding
Enjoy the island from the back of a horse! Ask us about options available from the Haig Point's equestrian center.
Tours, Kayaking, etc
Tour Daufuskie offers a variety of ways to experience the island and the surrounding waters, including kayaking, paddle boats, and golf cart historic tours. A brochure will be in your villa's welcome packet.
Note: We especially recommend the 2.5 hour golf cart tour (you will ride in their gas-powered carts as an informative and fun way to learn more about the island.
Yoga
Yoga classes are held twice a week at the Melroe Resort. (Locations vary.) The instruction is appropriate for all fitness levels, from beginner to intermediate, and visitors are welcome. Laura Winholt is a certified Anusara Yoga and RYT 500 instructor. Contact information will be provided at the time of your reservation.
Massage
Janet Adams offers massage therapy and will come to your vacation home for these services. Contact information will be provided at the time of your reservation.
Island Locations of Special Interest
There are many interesting places to visit on Daufuskie, including the locations described below. All of these places will be marked on a map found in your arrival welcome packet.
Opened in early 2015, the Daufuskie Rum Company (270 Haig Point Road) is a micro-distillery that makes authentic, American made hand-crafted rum. To schedule a tour call (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). Distillery and store hours are 10:00 am - 4:00 pm Wednesday - Saturday.
The Iron Fish Art Gallery (tel: (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)) is always open, even if its resident artist, Chase Allen, is not present. Chase has been featured in numerous Southern and Coastal Living publications and recently won a national “American Made” contest sponsored by the Martha Stewart magazine. Lots of interesting things to see here, and visitors enjoy exploring his art work on both the front porch and in an outdoor gallery area. Love honey? Chase has his own bee hives, and you can buy jars of freshly-made honey.

The Silver Dew Pottery opens for the season on Tuesday, April 30th and remains open through October. This studio is run by Lancy and Emily Burn, longtime Daufuskie residents. This year marks the 100th anniversary of Lancy's grandfather arriving on Daufuskie to serve as the Bloody Point assistant lighthouse keeper. You can hear some fascinating stories about the island's history from the Burns during your visit to this shop.

The historic Jane Hamilton School, formerly used as the school for children living on the north end of the island, has been restored by the Daufuskie Historical Foundation and is currently home to the Gullah Learning Center and the Daufuskie Island Community Library. It also serves as the polling location for Daufuskie's elections precinct.
2. Located next door is the Billie Burn Museum, which was formerly the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. The museum contains a fascinating collection of island artifacts and historical documents and also offers some distinctive gift items.
Getting Around:
You will leave your car on the other side at your ferry or water taxi departure dock. Most folks get around Daufuskie by golf cart, and we can help you with contacts to rent one for your stay!
Other Things to Note:
Have a big group? The owner will be happy to help you find a "walking distance" property or properties for others.
Daufuskie Island, SC is located between Hilton Head, SC and Savannah, GA. There is no bridge to Daufuskie, and it is necessary to take a water taxi or ferry boat. Generally speaking, visitors will need to plan for an additional $55 per person for boat and ground transportation to your vacation home, plus possible parking charges at your departure boat dock. We help with all logistical arrangements.
Interaction with Guests:
Concerned about the logistics of coming to the island, getting groceries, etc etc? No need to worry! You will receiving lots of good information and assistance from Daufuskie Rental Group team who all live on the island and will be available 24/7 for any questions or problems. We strive to make the Daufuskie experience a stress-free and enjoyable adventure. Once you're here, we will be available to introduce you to our unique and beautiful island that you will want to explore on the complimentary golf cart provided with this cottage.

PET POLICY:
The owner accepts well-behaved canine visitors, although a pet fee will apply. In addition, the property manager must approve all pet requests. Your dog must be over one year old, not be aggressive towards people or other pets, be house trained, will not get up on the furniture, and is ok with being left alone when you are away from the cottage (e.g., no incessant barking or destructive behavior). We also ask that you be a responsible pet owner when the dog is outside, that there will be no signs that your pet was in the property when you depart, and that you will be responsible for any damage and/or extra cleaning caused by your dog.
