I'm originally from New Jersey, USA. I'm married with three sons. I am a perennial student: a graduate of Rutgers University, Seton Hall University, Army Command & General Staff College, The National Defense University, and University of Arizona. I hold an undergraduate degree in Sociology and graduate degrees in Education and Latin American Studies. I retired in 1988 from 24 years of military service in U.S., Europe, Asia. During this career, I served in Infantry units and taught in both military and civil schools, to include at Rutgers and Seton Hall universities. I have lived at Lake Atitlan since 1999. I am a fitness trainer and exercise nut. I am the published author of numerous books and articles on military subjects, education, and the contemporary culture and history of Guatemala and Mexico (pen name Richard Morgan Szybist). Three of my books form the "Lake Atitlan Trilogy."
