Wonderful location in heart of town and nicely furnished - we thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
The location of the apartment was great. Easy to walk to the restaurants in town, the pickup location for the D-Day tours along with the tapestry and the cathedral. We had a car and the parking wasn't an issue at all once we found the apartment and received the map of parking locations from the owner. The closest free all day parking was only a five minute walk.
The apartment itself was nice. As other reviewers said the bathroom is small as expected. The bedroom has a good sized comfortable bed. The only down side was that there is a lot of light coming in from the street that can't be blocked. Once I got used to it there was not an issue. We didn't use the stove or oven but the refrigerator came in handy. We did have an issue with the sofa bed. It didn't seem to be put away properly last time so it was hard to put together. Once it was put together the feet at the end of the bed collapsed a few times. Also the sheets can't be put on completely due to the nature of the bed so we did the best we could. This is why i put the overall rating at a 4. If you don't plan on using the sofabed you can consider this a 5 star location for the price.
We stayed in the apartment 3 nights. It is on the second floor over a shop on a busy street full of shops and restaurants. It had everything we needed for our stay. It is within an easy walk of a small grocery store. There is free parking a 5 minute walk away at St. Patrice. Touring the D-day beaches and Mont St. Michel are easy from this location. We definitely enjoyed our stay.
Terrific small apartment on Bayeux's main shopping street
This apartment is perfectly situated for feeling that you are a part of the town as well as a tourist. The tourist office, many restaurants and the main tourist sites can be reached in minutes by foot. Located above a dress shop, it's on the street that serves as Bayeux's shopping mall. But Rue St. Malo is only a one-lane, one-way street and the shops close early, so while the street is busy during the day, it quiets down quickly after 9 p.m. The host, Claudia Bonneu, is friendly and helpful and also responds to texts if you have questions. She lives outside of town. The apartment has a nice sitting area and all major kitchen appliances (the refrigerator and dishwasher are behind cabinet doors in the photos). The bed is big and comfortable. The bathroom is tiny and the shower stall is tight -- but it's a small apartment, after all. Parking in the city lot behind the apartment has a 3-hour limit (1 Euro per hour) from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and is free overnight. Once you are settled in, it's better and almost as convenient to park in one of the free lots two blocks away. Claudia provides a map of Bayeux parking lots. If you require a very dark bedroom to sleep, be aware that there is a street light outside the bedroom window and the apartment has blinds that do not fully block the light. We did not find that to be a problem, however, because we were dead tired at the end of each day. We stayed in the apartment for six nights. We debated between renting a place in the Bayeux countryside and this apartment; we are glad we chose the apartment.
Cozy suite, grand location
We had the pleasure of being Claudia's first guests at this location(4 adults age 55-60). Due to a scheduled Air France strike we arrived in France 3 days earlier than planned. As the first guests, and arriving short notice, Claudia could not have been a more gracious host. She was there to greet us and explain the workings of the apartment as well as our surroundings.
The unit is as described and as shown in the pictures with all brand new kitchen and appliances. The bathroom is typical European (small) but functional. Plenty of hot water and good water pressure. The only reason for 4 and not 5 stars is the need for details such as additional clothing storage and towel racks which Claudia is clearly working on, and though the fold out bed was comfortable it was difficult to set up the bed sheets around the hardware.
The unit is located above the main street where you can look out over the daily activity, and with windows closed we did not hear street noises(except street washer in the morning). There is a courtyard entrance to the street out front, as well as to a municipal parking lot at the rear. We took the train from Paris to Caen, rented a car, drove about 25 minutes to Bayeux. The nearby parking lot was a welcome surprise and free overnight.
Each day we used the Nespresso machine for coffee, strolled the town for breakfast and sightseeing, then headed out to the Normandy sights, returning in the evening for dinner out and more strolling. Do not miss Mont St. Michelle.(best if you allow for 5-6 hours there). Wish we had done Paris first then finished with the stress free Normandy area. Thank you Claudia
I was happy when I read your so laudatory review. So many compliments about the apartment, his location, our beautiful Bayeux and moreover about me! Thank you very much. I am happy when my guests are happy in the Churchill suite.
I would have liked deserving for this first review the five stars, but I understand your critics. I am taking care of the details you mentioned. However, regarding the lack of cloth storage, I would like to point out that this apartment isn't very big and the place lacks for another wardrobe. I told you that for very grown up people wouldn't feel truly comfortable. You didn't want to search another place. However, you are righty: a little chair in the bedroom could do it well, just next to the bed, in order to allow to drop off some clothes.
If ever you came back, you could try one of our other suites: The Orangerie du Grand Jardin. Plenty of space in a wonderful estate. Take a look at ads no
