About this property

French Farm House Near St Emilion Built In 1860 With The Charm Of The Vineyards

Nestled between Saint-Emilion and Pomerol, Bastide St Pierre lies in a part of the world as much famed for its beauty, tranquility and verve as for its wine, cuisine and rolling vineyards. This elegant house built in 1860 in local French limestone has been lovingly renovated & restored (2014) over the last 2 years keeping both it's original Gironde charm with added modern convenience. The main bedroom has an Emperor size bed with large ensuite bathroom with 3 King size beds in an additional 3 bedrooms & 2 double beds in the fifth bedroom. The interior has a modern 65 sq metre kitchen that should accommodate the most demanding gourmet chef. All the rooms are of grand proportions so there is a wonderful sense of space that retains the elegance & grandeur of the vineyard owners who built the house during the reign of Napoleon III. The area is surrounded by the bustling local markets and antique fairs; to relaxing, with a glass of local premier grand cru in hand, on a local café terrace; to experiencing the history and wonder of the Unesco World heritage sites of Saint Emilion which is just over 10 minutes away driving through the some of the worlds greatest vineyards, the exciting city of Bordeaux just 45 minutes away by car. You are 10 minutes away from the beautiful market town of Libourne where you should visit on one of 3 market days when you will experience the idyllic charm of an authentic French food market. Farther a field you have the Unesco world heritage town of Cognac (1 hour 15 minute drive) & towards the coast you have the fascinating town of the Archachon & the famed Dune de Pyla (again 1 hour 15 minute drive). You are 10 minutes drive from some of the worlds most famous Chateaus such as Chateau Petrus & Cheval Blanc. For wine lovers who wish to travel farther a field the Haut Medoc and Sauterne regions are both within a reasonably short drive. In addition you border the Dordogne & are 45 minutes from Perigeaux & Bergerac with Sarlat de la Canada being 1 hour 15 minutes away. If you love relaxing, the best food & wine there are a lifetime of choices available. Lastly make sure there's room in your bags to take a few bottles back !

Tasteful, beautifully restored, and so generous!
Our group of 3 couples had high expectations formed from the photographs we had seen of the property, but these expectations were met and exceeded! We fully appreciated Sonia’s assistance during our stay .She was extremely welcoming and attentive, and provided a great information package and history of the property. The property has been beautifully styled and sympathetically restored. There was a copious supply of linen, and toiletries, and the kitchen was very generously appointed! We were left wanting for nothing. It was a serene setting, and we thoroughly enjoyed using the outdoor facilities/ grounds. We also appreciated the solid and reliable wifi connection throughout the house. Sonia left some recommendations for activities during our stay ( and although we were unable to experience it all) the stand outs for us were wandering the Libourne Markets, having an unforgettable lunch at Clos de Milande and further afield our visit to Pichon Baron Winery. In summary we would not hesitate to recommend this fabulous property. You will not be disappointed. We would all love to return!

Wonderful
A group of six of us have just had a week at the villa and it was amazing. Everything you'd possibly needed was there and Sonia was always on email to advise or help out. The villa was just beautiful and an easy drive to St Emilion and the Bordeaux region. We would thoroughly recommend it and hopefully one day we may get back.

Sublime
I stayed at this beautiful property for 2 weeks with friends and family to celebrate my 50th birthday, and it was the holiday of a lifetime. Sonia was the perfect host, answering questions promptly and providing the best recommendations for activities and restaurants in the area. We visited Bordeaux, St. Emilion, Libourne, Cadillac, Cognac and other towns, but spent most of our time relaxing and enjoying fine wine, food and company at the house which is just stunning. Sonia has done an incredible job restoring the property, balancing its history with modern and luxurious accommodations. There are so many areas of the house to enjoy: morning coffee and croissants on the patio, lazy afternoons by the pool, dinners in the outside pavilion. I loved cooking in the extremely well appointed kitchen as the space opens up onto the patio. Others enjoyed the cool front rooms to read/doze. The pool is just heavenly and all the bedrooms and bathrooms are charming. The local boulangerie/pâtisserie is wonderful, and in addition to the market in Libourne, the local supermarket met all our needs. Cycling/driving through the local vineyards was so picturesque, and we were even lucky enough to see the Tour de France zoom past. This was a dream vacation for me, creating so many wonderful memories that we will all treasure. I couldn’t have been happier.

Fantastic Accomodations and Location
Sonia and Saul's home in St. Denis de Pile is exceptional and as advertised. It is an easy location to get to St. Emilion, Libourne and Bordeaux . We experinced great wine tasting on the left and right banks and found the location to a nearby Boulangerie and Inter Marche grocery to be ideal. The home is lovely and accomodated 3 couples easily. The internet service is fantastic and communication with Sonia was easy. She and her house keeper even went out of their way to overnight some personal items we left behind. We would rate out stay at the highest level and would not hesitate to return. 10 star!

SIX STARS !
Bastide St. Pierre is as good as it gets ! (And we’ve rented a LOT of places over years of travelling). From the reservation process to the end of our stay , Sonia and Saul always responded quickly and fully , even sharing and accentuating our joy in living for 2 weeks in this wonderful property. The building is wonderfully restored , FULLY equipped and very tastefully and warmly decorated. We got great use out of so much that is offered : the rooms , the equipment, fireplaces, books, manual provided for guests, pool , pavilion ,patio and even the odd DVD. Nothing in the place was not for our use.Not to mention visits to villages , restaurants and wineries, many suggested by Sonia and Saul. Finally , a history of the acquisition of Bastide St.Pierre, complete with “ before” pix , made us fully aware and appreciative of the rather incredible accomplishment of transforming a rundown 1860 building into our magnificent accommodation. We can’t thank our owners enough for this experience. Our only disappointment is that we can’t give more than 5 stars .

I grew up in Nice on the Cote D'Azur before moving to the United States , I have travelled extensively having lived in South America & Switzerland. I currently call home London but throughout my travels I was always drawn back to the beauty of the vineyards of St Emilion & the grace of the city of Bordeaux.

Why they chose this property

I spent years looking for the right property in the Gironde which would exude the charm & character of the area combined with the perfect location.
I knew we would fully renovate the property with the principle being to add modern comforts while retaining the historical character of building.
