About this property

Stillwater Lakehouse on Portage Lake

Summary:
Escape to nature, bring friends, bring family – there is room for everyone at Stillwater Lakehouse! Perched on 160 ft of shoreline on South Portage Lake, we are ideally located for enjoying everything Haliburton has to offer: kayaking, canoeing, swimming, lounging on the dock, hiking area trails, touring nearby breweries, visiting the wolf sanctuary, or snowmobiling, dog sledding, x-country skiing on picturesque trails or downhill skiing at Sir Sam’s.

The Space:
The house sleeps 12, offers space and comforts which will ensure everyone has an enjoyable stay. With huge windows, cathedral ceiling and gorgeous lake views from each of the 3 levels, 2 king size beds, 2 queen size beds, and a bedroom with bunk beds, along with 3 separate sitting areas – allowing as much being together or apart as is preferred, everyone is sure to enjoy their stay. The board games, and the ping pong table on the lower level are great for some friendly competition and spending time together. The well-equipped open concept kitchen is an inviting spot for everyone, whether participating in the cooking or BBQ, or simply there for company and sampling. The harvest table, which seats 12, is a perfect spot for meals for the whole group, making memories and relishing in the day’s experiences. Morning coffee on the deck is made easy with our Nespresso Vertuo machine (bring your own favourite pods) and a drip coffee maker. In the evenings, cozy up in front of the fireplace or wood stove, or grab a blanket and head out to the deck chairs to gaze at the stars.

South Portage Lake is a quiet private non-boating lake (electric motor boats are allowed). The shoreline offers both a gently sloping area, as well as deep water off the dock, the water is clear and there are no weeds whatsoever. This is an ideal spot for swimming or paddling in the 2 kayaks and 2 canoes available for use. The breathtaking sunsets tend to draw the whole crowd down to the dock. The fire pit is a great destination for all ages, whether making s'mores or simply enjoying the quiet of the night by the fire under the big sky. Your time at Stillwater Lakehouse can be as relaxing or as active as you choose to make it. While some will rise early to enjoy a morning paddle or a coffee on the dock when there is still a mist on the lake, others will opt to sleep in and enjoy the creature comforts in this spectacular setting.

We advise winter renters to have 4 wheel drive as Stillwater Lakehouse driveway is sloped and tends to ice over. It is recommended they park at the top of the driveway near the road to prevent from getting stuck. During the summer 4 wheel drive is also advisable when the road is slick from rain.

Family trip
This cottage ticked all the boxes—convenient to Haliburton and amenities, small, quiet lake, water “toys” for the whole family, lovely dock and fire pit, plenty of sleeping space and a well equipped kitchen.

Good Times with Family at Stillwater Lakehouse
12 in our family attended. Ages 9 to 70 and everyone had a great time. The cottage was well equipped and suitable for our large group. Beds were comfy. Even the weather cooperated. Lots of time was spent in the lake, on water raft, and in canoes and kayak. We enjoyed the campfire pit. Lots of areas to spread out inside to seek out quiet times when needed.

Family Getaway
A well-loved cottage, in transition, with a few upgrades. Suitable for large groups and welcoming of pets. Well equipped cooking facilities. There are a lot of steps and the cottage is built on a hillside. It is not suitable for anyone with knee or back challenges. The bunkie is unsuitable for sleeping. We enjoyed the waterfront.

A lovely cottage but beware it’s 75 steps from car to lake.
A lovely loved in feel to a cottage that comfortably fits a large party. There are far too many steps for anyone with knee or back issues to enjoy the lake and the bunkie is in great need of attention to truly qualify as an additional sleep space. Appropriate for teens through to fit middle aged but no small kids and no seniors. The limitations of the space need to be made clearer in ad.

Portage Lake cottage review
Great open space cottage with lots of room for all of us. Very easy to book. Quite cluttered. Lots of old and battered items everywhere. Very steep driveway that was difficult to navigate once it rained. Lovely property that just needs some TLC. Overall a good stay.
