This is a great lakehouse with access right off the dock. It's a full house with plenty of bedrooms and space, beautiful westerly view for sunsets, and conveniently off Rt. 2 for easy access.
We attended a family wedding on Grand Isle and this home was just a few miles away from the venue. We loved the lake views and enjoyed an evening by the outdoor fireplace in the perfect fall weather.
Mel and Family were wonderful house was great the kids loved fishing off the dock playing in the yard everything was perfect for us !!
Thanks again melanie and family yall are wonderful people and even my kids hope to come back 😁
We had such a great time at this lovely lake house! Plenty of room for 6 adults and 3 pre-teen kids. Great dock for swimming and fishing, yard for lawn games, and well equipped kitchen, plus outdoor grill, for making big summer meals. Agree with my nephew's statement "this place is great, we should come back here next year!".
This lovely cottage was a cozy place to have our family Thanksgiving which sometimes had 10 of us for meals, but 6 staying overnight. Comfy beds, nice big dining table, and well-stocked kitchen. Beautiful view but it rained almost all weekend. Nevertheless, we had a great time and would return in future.

I'm so glad you enjoyed your trip and your family. That's what this home is all about. Family.
We had a wonderful time at the house. The lake, the yard, the amenities—it truly is a special place. We didn’t want to leave. We are already talking about how we can’t wait to come back next summer. Communication from the owner made everything easy, too. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful spot with us!"
The house has a great layout, is very well maintained, clean, and very nicely decorated. The owners live next door and they are super nice. There is plenty of space around the house to play outside. The house has a large deck with a grill, table and lounge chairs. There is a beach in front of the house with a dock which is great for swimming. We rented a canoe and it was fun to explore the lake. Grand Isle is very beautiful and there is lots to do. There are also numerous state parks not far from the house. They all are worth a vistit. Our two favorite parks are Knight Point State Park which is less than 5 minutes from the house and Niquette Bay State Park which is 20 minutes away. It was a great experience and we will try to come back.

Thank you for your lovely words. It was a pleasure having you as a guest. Thank you for treating our home as your own and enjoying it as much as we do. We look forward to seeing you again sometime.
Melanie
When we first walked in the door we knew we had hit a “home run”!
The layout of the house couldn’t be more perfect with bedrooms and the bathroom on the backside of the house and the large living room and den separated by wide opening door. Babies and younger children could be put to bed early ( if willing!) and the adults could carry on through the late evening hours in the living room or on the expansive adjacent deck with its dining area and lounge chairs with no disruption to the little ones. All this can only be upstaged by the beautiful view of Lake Champlain and the western sky with its sunsets. There is plenty of space for yard game, and launching your own boats and even a pirates playhouse that occupied our children for hours!
Initially we had concerns that the one bathroom for ten people just wasn’t sufficient, but with good communication ie. “Hey, I’m going to take a shower, does anyone need the bathroom first, it all worked without a hitch. There are nearby small markets that cover the basics, and two farmer’s markets held weekly in the area. We made use of a nearby marina to rent boats for most of our week which allowed us to more fully explore the lake.
In conclusion, we really appreciated the care taken to provide a really clean house, comfortable beds (even some that are adjustable!) refrigerator and cupboard space that was empty and clean.

Thank you so much for your kind words. We absolutely loved your family and thank you for choosing our home for your vacation. We are very thankful for how you took care of our home as if it was yours and I am so happy the pirate ship was a big hit!! We wish you all the best in the coming year!
Our experience did not go well. We arrived and the owner and her family were still using the dock and yard. We parked in the driveway and were told we couldn't park there and had to park across the street in a field that they owned as well. We had three small children and a lot of stuff to unload. When we walked in the house there were big black ants everywhere. Then entire house is infested. There are ant traps everywhere but they were all full. We had to go to the store and buy Raid ant killer ourselves. The trash bins and recycle bins were all full from the owners who were obviously using the property right up until we arrived. Next while walking on the beach area below the yard their neighbor came out and started shooting his shotgun within 30 yards of my wife and daughter. He did this several times during our stay and we even have video of him doing so. When we asked the owner if this is common her husband replied dismissively "Welcome to Vermont!" It was as if they were annoyed we were there. The washer and dryer are locked in a garage separate from the house and we were only given access one day for the entire time we were there. They left their boats docked to the dock preventing any other boat access. The only direction given for check out was to broom sweep, which we did, assuming they had a cleaning service but they held our security deposit claiming we didn't clean the house ourselves. They provided no receipts or itemized list of damages as required by state law forcing us now to pursue legal council. Rent at your own risk!!!

I am very sorry that you were expecting to have laundry facilities. Our rental does not say we offer a washer and dryer. We asked our neighbor to let you in to use our personal ones as a courtesy because you said you were flying in from Colorado and didn't notice on the rental that it did not have them. I have never seen my neighbor with any guns. I have been told that he will use a 22 to kill muskrats that eat the boats, but I personally have never seen this. His property is 3 properties away. We have never had an ant problem before other than the occasional ones here and there. I don't know why they came out when you were there, but the pictures I have from when you left may explain it. You also broke many of VRBO's rules. You never asked for access to our dock. Our renters here now have two boats and fit just fine with ours. You stated you had 2 adults and 3 kids, but after you left, my neighbors came over to complain about the amount of people and cars in and out and overnight. A family of 5 for 5 days should not accumulate $30 worth of garbage. Our renters garbage usually is $4. I have never had one complaint on our home and have many people hoping for cancellations so they can come back in August. I will leave it to VRBO to investigate for further actions. I hope you find a house better suited for your family in the future.

Beautiful view
Overall, we had a great time and really enjoyed the lake, firepit, sunrises, and sunsets. The inside of the house looks much better in person than the pictures show. We met the owners on our last day and they were very kind. I have to be honest that it wasn't what I expected though. We checked in around 7pm and it was pitch dark outside. You have to drive down to the house on the grass because it's in front of another house/garage with no driveway. While I was trying to unload the car and figure out how to check-in, a neighbor came up to me with a flashlight in an intimidating manner. I had to initiate conversation asking if he was the owner and he said he was the neighbor. I told him we would be staying for the next few days and he said he usually knows when there are guests coming. I had to reassure him that we booked this house. Not such a welcoming experience for a girl in the pitch dark in the middle of nowhere. I was really startled. Also, while trying to figure out which door to enter in the dark, I walked up the back deck through massive spiderwebs everywhere. Once I turned on the lights, I saw the entire deck and chairs were covered in webs and big spiders. We had to spend hours cleaning it with a broom before we could use it. There were also a lot of rules for the house. There were notes on all the windows facing the lake to not touch the blinds so we couldn't enjoy the view like we wanted to while we were inside. There was another rule about only smoking by the firepit so my boyfriend had to walk in total darkness to the lake anytime he wanted to smoke instead of just going out on the deck. For the firepit, there was no wood provided next to it, so we had to walk far down to the other house to get some. Every other place I've booked, the hosts have prepped the first fire for their guests or at least provided some wood next to the firepit. Lastly, there were only bare essentials provided inside the house. 1-2 toilet paper rolls, 1 additional paper towel roll, 4 dishwasher pods, 2 towels, 3 garbage bags. The batteries were dead on the remotes, so we had to spend our own money on basics like batteries, toilet paper and dishwasher pods. I believe we were the last guests of the season, so maybe it is better prepped in the summer but it could have been a much better experience for us for the price we paid.

I am sorry that your stay was not what you were expecting.
Regarding the lighting, it is automatic on the driveway and should have come on when you pulled down the side of the house. I believe the house light by the door is always on, but I was not there, so I do not know why it would not have been. I am sorry if it was dark.
We have never had renters that arrived at night, so I guess that is why the neighbors were curious. Because the home is so private we are always watching each others homes. I am sorry if you felt threatened.
I did not expect a late arrival or I would have let them know.
In our agreement it is states that we provide starter household products. As you were not there for a whole week I thought even that would be plenty, but I am sorry you expected it to be fully stocked for your whole time there.
The batteries are not something we can foresee, but you have given us the knowledge that we should keep extra batteries in the supply closet for just that reason. We are always learning how to best prepare for guests.
Being on a lake surrounded by trees we are always fighting the spiders and their webs. When I left on Sunday before your stay I had cleaned all of the ones on the deck and chairs and by the side door. We work very hard to keep them out of the house, but the outside is not as easy. I do not know what we could do differently to keep them off the deck, but I will look in to that for next falls renters.
Unfortunately, past guests have broken the blinds that are inside the windows. We thought it would be easier for renters to have the blinds inside the windows, but people have broken some of them over the years. It is only the sliding door to the deck and two windows in the the playroom. All of the windows facing the lake in the living room are all in working order and we have never had a complaint about them before. We have fixed them many times.
We do not allow smoking in or near the home. That is due to many instances of burns in the deck, deck chairs and tables. In the summer it is not an issue, but in the fall it is an inconvenience that we cannot help.
We do not supply firewood and have never been asked to. There are numerous places to purchase firewood near the home.
This is the reason for the list of rules and the rental agreement. We try to list any and all issues that we think could come up while someone is in the home and try to prepare them for what they may need while they are there.
Again, I am very sorry that you were not completely happy with your stay and I hope i explained why some of those things are unavoidable and others need to be specified in the agreement. I hope in the future, if you are ever in the area, you will give us another chance to give you a great stay.

The owners couldn't be more accommodating. The property is perfectly situated on the lake. Great breezes and stunning views. The fishing was awesome right off the dock. The house is well appointed with everything you need. There is so much to see and do within a few minutes' drive. We will be back.
Felt just like home in this beautiful waterfront location!
Absolutely fantastic time in this beautiful lakefront home. The house had everything we needed, and was clean, comfortable, and felt just like home. The owners were super friendly and helpful. This was the perfect setting for my sisters and I to have our reunion. Vermont is beautiful, and we thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful house, the outside deck, and the firepit and chairs overlooking the water - we got to enjoy sunrises with our coffee and sunsets with our cocktails by the fire. It was PERFECT! Loved every minute and hated to leave at the end of the week.
The house was perfect for a family gathering for graduation. The house is space and clean and communication with the owners was superb. The view can’t be beat. We went into the lake even though it was just 58 degrees! We saw the best sunset we have ever seen! Burlington is about a 40 minute drive but the property was so perfect we just wanted to stay and enjoy it! We are planning to return sometime when we can swim in the lake every day! Can’t go wrong with this rental!
This place is way more than the description could ever encompass. The owners are absolutely amazing making sure you get the experience you seek. Even to the smallest details of s’mores materials waiting at your check in. Melanie and Nick were extremely accommodating and made sure every detail was discussed or provided for. The Grand Isle area was amazing. You are made to feel like a local. There’s no chain restaurants or stores. It’s all small business owners and amazing. Thank you so much for the memories!!
We enjoyed our stay at Sandy Cove. The home was open with plenty of room and we loved the cozy lake house decor! The yard outside the home had beautiful lake views, a spacious porch, large outdoor fireplace, and kids play area. We enjoyed food cooked on the grill and in the fire! There was space for lawn games. We also enjoyed plenty of swimming, floating on our tubes, and fishing. There are some clam shells and seaweed, so be sure to wear water shoes!
Very clean upon arrival, the house is more beautiful in person. We had a great week, thank you!

About the host
Hosted by Melanie Hagedoorn
We are full time Jersey residents, but love our summers on Lake Champlain. We are two brothers, their wives and children. The brothers have been coming here for over 50 years. We also love seeing families like ours enjoy being together in our home. While we rent out our main home, we stay in our secondary structure we like to call, The Barn. This has allowed us the blessing of meeting renters and becoming friends. We have some great families who have been coming every year since we began renting.
Why they chose this property
Our family has enjoyed this beautiful, special spot on Lake Champlain for over 50 years. We are sure your family will love it too. Fun and sun during the day and peaceful beautiful sunsets at night. Spend your days reading, relaxing, playing in the water, boating or playing yard games. In the evening you can relax and view the sunset and then gather around the campfire for some s'mores and laughter. "The Gut" is the most beautiful spot on lake Champlain!
What makes this property unique
Peaceful, Cozy home. Caring neighborhood. Everyone watches out for everyone. You always have a neighbor to help with anything. Large yard for games, Swim area, Shared Dock, Amazing Sunsets!! Our home is big enough for making large family memories and small enough for the rest you need.
