We had a great stay the beautiful cottage on Peninsula lake. The cottage was extremely clean and well stock for our two families that used the cottage. The water was perfect for swimming, tubing and fishing. We really appreciated all of the water toys (paddle boards, kayaks, and canoes) that were provided. The 85 steps provided a great workout throughout the week. . The town of Huntsville had great shopping and restaurants. Looking for to going back.

Hi Jason - Thanks again for staying with us. You and your group are welcome back anytime! Glad you enjoyed your time in Muskoka.
We had a nice trip with some minor issues inside and out - really enjoyed the cottage layout which is spacious. Communication is very good and we appreciated the extra flexibility provided by the owners. The trek to and from the lake is not for the week - even those of us who were in shape were huffing and puffing mid way.
My family had an absolutely amazing week here! Just a beautiful spot and is a great place to unwind and recharge! Michael and Ryan are fantastic hosts!
I recently stayed at this cottage with friends and their families, including our toddler and infant. The place is spacious, clean, and very comfortable. The kitchen surprised me with its wide range of utensils and glassware, making cooking easy for our group. The deck is accessed by over 80 stairs, which can be a bit challenging, but the beautiful water activities like kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards made it worth the effort. The fire pit was a bit disappointing due to wet log seats after rain, but the fire heater on the deck was a cozy alternative. I also appreciated the gas line grill, no need to carry propane tanks around and the sauna was a great bonus.Overall, a wonderful spot for a relaxing and fun getaway with family and friends!

Hi Nethra - I'm glad you and your group enjoyed your stay! Thanks again for saying with us. You're welcome back anytime.
For future guests: We do have 8 red Muskoka chairs down by the water for additional seating.
We had an amazing time at the cottage. We created family memories that will last a life time. My 5 year old son found a love affair with fishing and my 3 year old daughter couldn't stop wanting to go for a swim in the beautiful lake. We hope to come back one day.

Hi Justin - I'm glad you and your family enjoyed your time at our place. Fishing off the dock is one of my favorite things to do! Come back again soon :-)
This is thus far the best place we have ever stayed at, it is huge, fits 10+ adults easily, the place was well maintained and the kitchen was well stocked. We had a great time. The host was very accommodating. The views from the dock were great and the interior setup and designs were really cool too. Thanks for a fantastic weekend stay!
Amazing time had by all. Despite the weather not working in our favour, we had time to be outdoors and enjoy all the indoor amenities. This location suites all types ! The cozy up with a book type, the outdoor adventure type , and the social type playing cards and dancing to music. Great getaway had by all the types !

Hi Alexis - I'm happy to hear you and your group enjoyed your time in Muskoka!
Just stayed here for 5 days with my family and it was large enough to accommodate us all with no issues. The cottage is full of great amenities that we got to enjoyed. When we stayed it rained a lot but we still got the lake experience. The screened in porch was a great place to hang when it was raining. We definitely got our work out in with the steps to and from the dock but we still loved it. Definitely would go back

Hi Martina - Happy to hear you enjoyed your time at our place. You and your family are welcome back anytime!
Overall, we enjoyed our stay. The cottage has a great layout, is very clean, comfortable, and well equipped. However, we were disappointed by the fire pit - the seating around it was just log stumps, and bringing firewood down the 80+ steps to the water, made it impractical for us to use. Having a fire table on the dock was a nice substitute, but again a steep walk back up to the cottage.
This home provided everything for a large family stay. There are so many areas to have a quiet moment or be together to share a meal. The kitchen provides all the cookware you need and plenty of dishes. Thank goodness for dishwashers :)
We really like to cook and we did have a large family gathering but we struggled to find enough room in the fridge for all the food we brought with us. There is a mini fridge at the dock which we enjoyed using for cold drinks and snacks for the kids. Great idea!!
We enjoyed the floating mat and paddle boards, the large deck and barbecue and the quiet evenings with sounds of nature.
Everything was clean and comfortable. Lots of chairs inside and out. Great hosts! Thank you Michael and Ryan, you have a wonderful home.

Awkward Layout
For the price, expected much better. We had two families of 4 ( with younger kids), and one set up of grandparents. The layout is clearly described on the listing but did not work well for us. To start, there was a flood in the basement and guests had to travel upstairs to shower ( floor boards were soaked with water and will need to be replaced at some point). All bedrooms on main floor are very small with little storage space ( kids had to store all their clothes in our room). The barn door concept offers very little privacy ( and is just awkward for a bathroom with a shower). The seating area with the TV sits right beside that washroom as well - kinda awkward for people showering or using the bathroom. Same principle applies to the bedroom/ washroom by the kitchen. In fairness, they have a blueprint of the layout so it wasn’t a secret but it’s not ideal once you are in there. For a cottage that sleeps 12, there is a dining room table that seats 6, an outdoor patio table that seats 4, and a screened in porch that seats 2. I had high expectations but didn’t work very well for our group. John

Hi John and Future Guests,
We’ve tried to include as many accurate photos of the amenities as possible, as well as a detailed layout floor-plan for both levels which we hardly see offered on rental property listings.
#1. We did acknowledge that there was an issue with the shower prior, however it was beyond our control and happened a 2 days prior. We’ve addressed the problem.
#2. All bedrooms have clothing storage except the bunkie room.
#3. There’s a new dining room table for 10+ people as well as new patio furniture for the exterior.
We try to update our listing and address any concerns after every guest stay.

Pluses and Minuses
Property is marketed as a luxury cottage. We expected a higher standard for the price. We rented the cottage for 2 wks for 9 of us. We arrived prior to our guests & were surprised to find, although tidy, it had areas that weren't adequately clean (garbage receptacles) or had not been cleaned for some time. We could write in the dust on shelves & light fixtures, kitchen drawers needed cleaning, master bedroom night table was broken, kitchen drawers wouldn't stay closed, no lock on one of the bathroom doors, barn doors to bedrooms and bathroom didn't work properly. Another hazard was an area rug in downstair's living area with large curled edges which one could trip. We were told this was because of water damage from a flood. To be fair, when we contacted the owners they did send a handyman and cleaner the next day (Sunday) to address our major concerns. This allowed us to enjoy the remainder of our stay. State of amenities weren't up to the standard of a “luxury” cottage for the price. There weren't enough face cloths, nor were there hand-towels for the bathrooms. We used tea towels from the kitchen for bathroom hand towels. The king-size bed in master bedroom had a queen size duvet and flat sheet. There was a French press coffee maker and a Nespresso machine. Both were inadequate for 6 adults drinking coffee. The Nespresso machine required large pods that are incredibly hard to find. Our guests ended up having to bring their own coffee machines. There were other low urgency maintenance issues. Muskoka Room screens were coming away from the frame. There are 5 bedrooms, 1 has a closet & 1 has a small bureau. Guests had to live out of their suitcases. Dining seating was inadequate. We didn’t dine outdoors as the deck table had 4 old wooden chairs, & no seat cushions. Although the cottage is advertised as “luxury” it's configured, & priced, for the largest number of guests, rather than the number of guests that it's able to appropriately accommodate. Positives; dock & lake are lovely. Kids had fun with the kayaks & canoe. It was helpful there's a small fridge in the cabana at the dock given the climb up/down to the cottage. The beds were comfortable, plenty of dishes/cutlery. Multiple TVs if you're interested in streaming. Booked this cottage over a year before our stay & looked forward to treating our family to something really special. Unfortunately, it did not meet our expectations.

Hi Karen and Future Guests,
We wanted to address your concerns to ensure there’s been a solution put in place moving forward.
As you mentioned we had sent our cleaner and handyman the following morning (Sunday) after hearing about your lists of concerns. They did spend a significant amount of time there all day Sunday to ensure a better stay.
#1. We will be leaving more facecloths/hand towels for our guests. We didn’t hear about this concern until the review. Our cleaner could have easily left more while she was there on Sunday.
#2. The bedding should all be accurate and is marked appropriately. We didn’t hear about this concern until after.
#3. We have 3 coffee machines. The Nespresso is a brand new model and all are listed in the welcome binder that’s sent out 30 days prior to your stay. Canadian Tire, Metro and Staples all sell these types of Nespresso pods in town (7 min) in addition to Nespresso. We also have a regular machine and French press.
#4. Muskoka room screen on the door does come loose sometimes but it has been fixed.
#5. We have clothing storage (armoire, dressers or closet) in all rooms except the Bunkie.
#6. We had accurately displayed the dining room table (6-8), bar seating area (4) and other table seating area (4) in our listing. We understand the dining room table didn’t seat 12. We’ve since upgraded the dining room table to seat 10+ people in addition to the bar seating area and other table seating area.
#7. We upgraded our outdoor patio furniture to seat more people.
We hope this addresses your concerns for any future guests.
I would like to preface this by stating that I rarely write reviews; however, our family felt compelled to warn others before booking this cottage. Briefly, the owner called us 20 mins before arrival to say the downstairs shower was not to be used. Upon arrival, we found the basement floor water damaged and covered by a rug. We became aware that flushing the toilet in one of the upstairs bathrooms also caused water to gurgle up through the shower and sink. Plumbers were sent on two occasions because the issue was not resolved after their first visit. Before departing, the plumbers said there were issues with the angels of the plumbing resulting in draining issues and a water pressure issue that had to be corrected with a filter replacement.
The owner contacted us after our stay regarding reimbursement due to the plumbing issues and only having 1 fully functional bathroom for 12 people during the majority of our visit. During the call, the owner stated there “had never been issues with the plumbing prior to our stay” and it was “very odd that plumbers had to be called twice during our stay.” As stated in the review by the previous renter and by the call we received prior to our arrival, that was false. We also mentioned the dishwasher was not cleaning dishes (which also appeared to be due to the pressure issue) to which the owner implied we were putting in dishes with too much food. We didn’t continue listing our concerns, because we felt everything would be spun to be our fault. We were refunded the cleaning deposit, which is a small pittance considering the time interrupted by plumbers, and the misleading advertisement of the ‘luxury’ accommodations.
Other issues we felt would be valuable to be aware of would include:
• Only 1 of the 3 bathrooms locked
• Bedside table in the master bedroom was missing a leg
• Door to deck had to be locked for it to close and front door would not lock
• Fire pit was surrounded by stumps, not chairs
• Appliances (blender and old model Nespresso) did not work
• Washout in driveway
• VERY steep hill down to water
• Extension cords running indoor/outdoor, bundles of loose wires/cords on roof
• Exposed junction box with live wires hanging out, surrounded by wood paneling
We have used VRBO multiple times before and have always had wonderful experiences. We had a nice time, but for the advertised ‘luxury cottage’ location, and the indifferent treatment we received, we will be pursuing different accommodations.

Hi Victoria and Future Guests,
We appreciate the feedback. I wanted to ensure we addressed your concerns and feedback in your review.
#1. We did have a problem with the shower prior to your stay. It wasn’t a simple problem to solve and look longer than expected. We didn’t want to cancel your summer vacation over 1 of 3 showers not functioning correctly. We’ve addressed the problem.
#2. We’ve never had any issues with this toilet in 2 years prior or since your stay. On both occasions the plumbers advised that they found a significant amount of wet wipes which we advised are not allowed to be flushed down the toilet even if they’re marked as bio-degradable. While the plumbers were onsite they did a curtesy water filter change to ensure full water pressure to prevent any future potential clogs.
#3. To clarify to the shower issue in the basement is unrelated to the toilet being clogged.
#4. Dishwashers aren’t meant to clean off left over food. The dishwasher is a brand new GE.
#5. Bedside table in the master has been fixed. A small screw was required.
#6. We have a gas fireplace on the dock with some Muskoka and other mixed chairs. We also have a 2nd fire pit on shore with some stumps for a more cottage feel as per listing photos.
#7. The Nespresso machine is a brand new Vertu line and the blender is also brand new. We also have a regular coffee maker and French press which are all listed in the cottage welcome binder that’s sent a month before your stay.
#8. We have stairs down to the water as per the listing photo’s.
#9. We have heated wires on our roof to help melt ice and snow to prevent any ice dams
We hope this addresses your concerns
The place was specious and suited our needs perfectly. Quite and beautiful scenery. Property mangers made our check in a breeze … thank you. It was a bit difficult to get to the dock other than that we very much enjoyed our stay.
My family including a teenage son and elderly parents - plus a visit from friends ALL loved this cottage. It is exactly as depicted in the pictures.
A few highlights:
- The dock is amazing. Its well built and spacious with ample seating. The water is beautiful. There us a bar fridge, pool noodles and all the stuff you need to spend the day by the water.
- The cottage is huge. Our group had all the space we needed at all times.
- The cottage owners are really responsive. I had a last minute medical delivery that had to be made to the cottage and Ryan and Michael went out of their way to help.
The screened in porch saved the rainy days we had. Neighbours on the right were out of sight and super quiet on the left…. So very private.
I would highly recommend.

This cottage was perfect. It’s so beautifully designed and an amazing layout. The dock is amazing and the lake is beautiful. I went there with a group of girls and we’re already talking about when we will be back. If you’re looking for a nice get away I wouldn’t hesitate to book this place! Wow, can't begin to say how amazing our stay was. Our hosts were amazing with communication the entire time. Not one thing to complain about. Property itself is hard to classify as a cottage, the entire space was amazing. Plenty of room indoors for rainy days as well as several outdoor areas to comfortably gather as well. Highly reccomend this space and we hope to come back again. Great place to relax and put your feet up!
