About this property

Luxe Waterfront Estate, Spa, Firepit, Watercraft

Welcome to The Cannery!

This historic waterfront property offers incredible views and wildlife, an 8-person spa, an outdoor kitchen and fireplace, private beaches at low tide, two outdoor showers, a firepit, a kayak/canoe launch, a kayak shack with Hydro-Bikes, Kayaks and a Paddle Boat available for our guest's use, pond, creek, gazebo with benches (perfect for picnics), creekside Tea House/She-Shed & multiple entertainment areas.

The mild microclimate of Alsea Bay results in temperatures that are generally 10 degrees warmer, with much less wind than the oceanfront.

Guests are welcome to bring their own non-motorized watercraft. For guests with boats, the new Waldport boat launch ramp and marina is right across the bay.

The wildlife is incredible. We share this location with harbor seals, cranes, cormorants, herons, and river otters. Bald eagles and falcons nest on the property. There are occasional orca sightings. An incredible variety of waterfowl. Bunnies, squirrels and chipmunks scamper through the back yard in the spring and summer.

Please note that this listing is for the main home on the estate. We live here part of the year in an adjacent guesthouse with a separate entrance and driveway. We generally do not use the common area amenities when our guests are in residence, so they can enjoy them undisturbed.

When we are not in residence, (often during the summer) the guest house will also likely be rented, and it has its own spa and grill so you will not be sharing these amenities.

If you prefer to have the entire property to yourself, please check our website at Dream Homes of Oregon or click on my host profile for the entire listing which is the Cannery Estate.

When we are here on the property, our two very friendly Rottweilers (Zeke and Zoe) and three friendly cats (Rocky, Oliver and Loki) are here with us. They enjoy greeting our guests.

If anyone in your party is nervous around, or allergic to, large dogs or cats, we are not a good fit for you.

Because all animals are naturally territorial, we ask that you leash your pup when they are outside at the property so there will be no run-ins with other animals.

Paying for location only
Location, location, location, only... Views are stunning. I wanted a water view to celebrate my 50th birthday and this did not disappoint. Unfortunately, other things did, particularly for the price. The host was unresponsive during our stay. After reaching out via text, voicemail and email regarding use of the water toys and not hearing back, the cleaning lady called the maintenance guy who then reached the host. Outreach regarding late check-out request and issues with the washing machine also went unanswered. The check-out policy requires that a load of towels be washed and in the dryer. After discovering the washer was unplugged and water turned off, I reached out repeatedly for guidance. With the threat of a $75 charge for not complying, we plugged it in and started a load only to discover it flooding the floor. Repeated urgent messages regarding this have still gone unanswered. The home is showing its age and needs some updating and maintenance. Many lightbulbs are burned out or just missing, including dark stairways. One of the burners on the kitchen stove doesn't work. The pool table is so off kilter it's un-useable (unless you're a child who doesn't care). The outdoor kitchen & hot tub area is beautiful and was enjoyed. I rarely write negative reviews, but the unresponsive host and flooding issues just tipped the scales given the per night cost.

A Night with Spirits and spirits. : )
The Cannery - Waldport, Oregon did not disappoint. We missed our family and friends due to a family member falling ill to the 💩 🦠 🙏🏽. We are heading back to Bend now to help or just support our family. Cojo season in a few weeks and if we get clearance from all, we hope to gather again. This gorgeous piece of land & 100+ year old Cannery did not disappoint IN THE LEAST. We spent the night with Captain Nice’s 👻 ghost. He was friendly and gentle. Kind. Came in with the song "Daddy's Hands". I read that as gentle and kind when at all possible but firm enough to not raise or be a dad role model to up and coming a-holes. :D We will do this again! And I plan on bringing my pink, light up, glittery fishing pole with a glitter bobber. Everyone, Science before fear, please. 🙏🏽❤️ Let's get these "States of America" back to UNITED so everyone can visit a bit more carefree. OH !! And I hit a jackpot at Spirit Mountain on the way from Bend to Waldport !! :)

Way to much DOG HAIR no professional cleaning
This is a nice expensive rental, a beautiful location and a nice home with a great view. We rented the home for 6 night$ for my son's birthday with my wife and 3 girls to have a get away from our farm. We have sheep, cats, dogs, pigs and chickens so we are very use to animal hair. The owners of this home live onsite in an attached apartment with 4 dogs and a cat like the listing says but, what the listing does not say is they most definitely live in the main part of the house while its not rented. It is well lived-in. The home had animal hair, mostly dog hair in every part of it. All the rooms and all the appliances. We spent hours cleaning dishes, bedding, towels, floors, couches, washer, dryer, fridge, freezer, and dish washer. An unacceptable amount of filth and hair. I took plenty of photos of all of this. I had asthma when I was a kid and my youngest has allergy's to cat hair as well but like the listing says they "live next store with their animals''. We would have never rented this home had we known it was like this. After all this cleaning, there was still plenty of hair and dust. So after 2 days of it, I had to go get allergy medication to get a nights sleep without wheezing all night. I asked the owners to keep there 4 rottweilers away from our part of the home and yard. They said they would but they did not. The dogs were in front of our front door growling at my kids and pooping in the front yard everyday. So we tried to stay indoors. However, the pool table was so slanted it wasn't useable to play. The basement with games and pingpong smell so strong of musk and mold we just kept the door closed at all times. Luckily the nice big TV worked fine. We tried to use the bbq on my son's birthday but it only got up to 200 degrees. It cooked oysters ok but I cooked the steaks inside. Due to the cleanliness of the home, we never touched the hot tub. On a positive side, they did allow us to smoke our medical cannabis outside on the property. The gazebo was one of the only spots outside of the home that was private from the owners. We left the home a day early and asked if they would give a one day refund. We told them our issues and we got a combative reply that they did a walk thru and there was No hair in the house. They also said that we left lights on and that is a violation of there rules and they don't do refunds. They said they only want to rent to animal lovers. Remember We have a farm, we love animals and we keep a clean house!

Dogs are definitely a concern, got into everything. The owners are very close to the main home and it lacked the privacy we hoped for. Cleanliness was seriously lacking and the home was very under stocked with everyday items needed. Overall for the money I wouldn’t consider renting again.

My husband Roy and I moved to Oregon from San Diego in 2013. We purchased our first Oregon Coast vacation rental property in 2015.

Roy is a physician, and Lauri owned commercial brokerage and property management companies in San Diego before moving here in 2013.

We love the Oregon Coast, and have now renovated eight Oregon properties with 11 total rentals. We love our guests, and their happy experiences keep us motivated!

Why they chose this property

The first time we came to the property, there were river otters playing in front of the house.

That alone may have been enough, but the history of the property, the world-class location and the many original details were equally compelling, and we knew this was a once-in-a-lifetime property.

We undertook a 10-month labor of love to restore this property and maximize the potential.

Future plans include Glamping in geodesic domes on the almost 3 waterfront acres next door and a common dock for both properties.

We are so pleased to welcome you to this treasured home, one unlike anything we have ever seen before.

Best,

Lauri and Roy

What makes this property unique

As you enter through the gate, you will pass through a Pacific Northwest rainforest on your way to the estate.

When you arrive, you will notice that the temperature is generally about 10 degrees warmer than on the beach. Many Days you will be driving in fog on the 101, and pull down into a sunny paradise in our little microclimate.

The home has tons of history; it was the original settlement of Waldport and had a cannery, a general store, a post office and the ferry landing.

A lot of the original details have been preserved, and we have also converted a shop of the former owners (copper and jewelry artists) into a gorgeous contemporary home with tons of architectural detail.

Privacy, amenities and a one-of-a-kind location that we are so privileged to spend time in, and to share with our guests.
