About this property
Secluded Bayfront, Spa, Grill, She Shed
The Lodge at Cannery Estate is nestled in an old-growth forest grove on Alsea Bay that the Alsea People named "Peace" and "Paradise" because of its mild climate and bountiful sustenance from land and sea. It is available to rent for stays of 30 days or longer.
This former copper artist's workshop is now a 1,500 sf open-concept home with a rustic | contemporary | farmhouse style. It has a beautiful King bedroom, a Queen sleeping loft and a Double Serta Sleeper sofa bed to comfortably accommodate six guests (maximum four adults.)
The Lodge is located on the grounds of a 5-acre estate on Alsea Bay. This site was a seasonal Alsea fishing village for thousands of years, and in the 1850's became the location of the first Waldport settlement. There was a cannery, post office, general store and ferry landing. The entire settlement burned down in 1916, and in 1926 the original Cannery owner's daughter built a lovely Craftsman manor home that stands here today.
The pilings from the cannery can be seen on our beaches, and further down the beach is a small waterfall, fern grotto and the ruins of more of the settlement that housed the cannery workers.
In addition to the stylish new interior, our guests have access to a private beaches at low tide, 4-person spa, firepit, gazebo, creek, pond & She Shed.
This incredible location provides endless opportunities to enjoy your time on the coast. You can crab or clam from our property, fish, hike down the beach to explore the ruins, and hunt for agates and beach glass on our private beaches.
There is incredible wildlife at the property. Curious harbor seals and river otters will pop their heads out of the water to say hello. Herons, loons and countless other sea birds patrol the sandbars at low tide. There is a nesting pair of Bald Eagles on our property with a clutch of one to four eaglets each year, and we have seen pods of orcas. In the backyard, there are bunnies, bluejays and chipmunks.
We live in the main home (The Cannery) on the property part of the year, with our friendly Rottweilers and our indoor cats. Each home has a separate outdoor area, including its own spa and patio.
We ask our guests bringing their dogs to keep them on a leash when outside. We will do the same. Although we do our utmost to provide our guests privacy and do not encourage interaction with our dogs, if any members of your party are nervous around, or allergic to, large dogs (or cats), we are not a good fit.

About the host
Hosted by Lauri Hines

My husband Roy and I moved to Oregon from San Diego in 2013. We purchased our first Oregon Coast vacation rental property in 2015.
Roy is a physician, and Lauri owned commercial brokerage and property management companies in San Diego before moving here.
We love the Oregon Coast, and have now built or renovated eight Oregon Coast / Wine Country properties with 10 total vacation rental listings. We love our guests, and their happy experiences keep us motivated!

Why they chose this property
I showed Roy this property just for fun. It was not in our target area (Newport) and was too big and too expensive.
Roy's first question was "When are we going to see this property?" so I scheduled a showing. The first time we came to the property, there were river otters foraging in front of the house. That alone might have sealed the deal, but the history of the property, the world-class location and the many original details sold us.
We undertook a 10-month labor of love to restore this property.
We are so excited to welcome you to this treasured home, one unlike anything we have ever seen before.
Best,
Lauri and Roy

What makes this property unique
This is like being on a private island. Once you enter through the gate, you pass through a PNW rainforest on your way to the estate.
When you arrive, you will notice that the temperature is generally about 10 degrees warmer than right on the beach. Many days I am driving in fog on the 101, and pull down into a sunny paradise in our little microclimate.
The home has lots of history; it was the original settlement of Waldport and had a cannery, a general store, a post office and the ferry landing.
A lot of the original details have been preserved, and we have also converted a shop of the former owners (copper and jewelry artists) into a gorgeous contemporary home with tons of architectural detail.
Total privacy (except for watercraft, harbor seals and river otters, who can be nosy), endless amenities and a one-of-a-kind location that we are so privileged to spend time in, and to share with our guests.
