Quiet, relaxing, friendly people and beautiful beach

The cottages are simple, clean and adequately equipped. The beach is terrific and one can walk miles and see no one. At low tide the sand was wonderful. It was a safe place for kids to swim, collect shells and have fun. There are no activities except sun , sand ,and surf. Do bring all your groceries as there are no facility in the tiny town The beach bar and restaurant has the best conch fritters and lobster tails and is a one minute walk. Everyone is friendly and helpful.

Peaceful little hideaway!

We really enjoyed our time here.. The area does look a little worn down from the recent hurricanes but these cottages are well cared for. We especially enjoyed his mothers wonderful cooking.. The lobster she made us was better than the restaurants we ate at on a different night. The kayaks were a lot of fun! Fresh coconuts from the trees as a special treat from the owner was exciting for the kids. We loved staying on sand! We struggled not having a washing machine with two kids for 5 days but they did offer their washing machine to us. I think they are building a laundry and games room, as well as mini golf, convenience store, and local-style restaurants next door.. There's not much up this end of the island so this is becoming quite the resort! The sand flies got to us a bit so be sure to bring your preference of bug deterrent. The air-conditioner works very well but we only used it to the cool the place down before bed in the evenings since we went in winter/early spring. It was also a little breezy during the day, with quite a bit of seaweed around but lovely white powder sand as you'd expect! Adorable little place with very warm and friendly owner :)

Alone on the beach

The beach was the most magnificent thing we have ever seen. Steve was wonderful to work with and had great ideas for things to do. It is about a 1 hour drive to the city so if it's peace and quiet you want then this is the place for you.

PARADISE ON THE BEACH AWAY FROM IT ALL, FOR BEACH

WE HAVE BEEN going to Grand Bahama for years and did know East end was PARADISE! if you love the beach, quiet laid back off the grid this is it, The villas run by the Laing Family at Pelican Point is a once and a life time paradise, The villas beautifully appointed tile floors thru out, Bathrooms adjoin rooms, kitchens have every thing you need and on the ocean, hear the lap of the turquoise waters from your room! That said the community of Pelican Point is small every one knows every one and is a safe area, The Laing Family is such great hosts one night we had a Bahamian favorite cooked and brought over to our Villas served in restaurant serving dishes the meal was fabulous!Steve their son can arrange tours to boiling holes to inland sinks all which we did on our own being familiar with the sites, The location on the ocean at low tide I would walk daily on the flats with a sun hat and swim suit for miles seeing the totally awesome sites ,sand bars, flats, marine life and perfect un spoiled beaches with out a soul on them next all be it a local fisherman may be passing on the ocean! Words cant explain!photos either! The villas are a 40 minute ride in to the main city on the Grand Bahama Highway Freeport, down the road West is the Sleepy village of High Rock with a restaurant, and a bit further the gas station home to Smittys road side stand Chicken In Da bag, and great breakfasts but be on time Food is GREAT! The villas have everything you need! Cell service via Att with Pass port package gave us Wifi/data and spotless cell coverage end to end on the Island as the location is great for family's and couples that can stand to be off grid and rely on processioning well to save trips back and forth to main city due to loss of beach time! We will be back as the location, The laings hospitality, the Villas spotless condition,The beach, the miles of un disturbed beaches to explore with out ever seeing a soul make this a perfect location as with most other travel destinations your always having travelers near by! Remember your tide charts as the islands beaches are best enjoyed at LOW TIDE! our stay was in July slow season for USA visitors and waters of the ocean bath tub warm

Beautiful and peaceful place - just to recommend!

If you're looking for a quite, breathtaking, fantastic location - alone or with your family - this is the place you should book! We, my husband and my 2 girls (2 & 4y), stayed there for 2 1/2 weeks. There is nothing comparable: you can see and hear the beach from your bed, from the kitchen and from the living room…and the beach is sooo beautiful! When there was low tide, the girls walked alone to the sandbank, to play in the sand over there - surrounded by the calm sea! Yes, you should rent a car! There is not a lot to explore on the island, but you need it, to get the groceries (which are very, very expensive on the island!) or to go to mcleans town, where you can have dinner at EJs restaurant. Steve, the host, really cares for his guests! He gave us advices, took us out with his boat for snorkeling and water skiing, he took care of the girls while we were snorkeling around a blue hole he showed us, he played card with the girls, brought something against the sun flies we had the first night (could be, that there are sun flies around when the sun goes down), he organized someone who helped us with the car, which we couldn't start after 3 days - there is much more to say about Steve, but you should met him! His an excellent host - and his mum is around and will help you in all belongings. The house is fully equipped with what you need. The towels are soft and smell very good :-) The AC works perfect. If you don't need entertainment and other tourists - its the perfect place. We could recommend it without doubt: We felt in love and so did our girls…. Thank you, Steve, for building these houses….

Wonderful for fishing and beach!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sunny Beach Villas. Steve will get anything you need and even point you to good bonefishing spots! The beach is beautiful and the whole experience was a great peaceful escape from winter.

We'd go back in a heartbeat!

My husband & I stayed at Sandy Beach Villas for nearly a week with another couple. The 2-bedroom villa had plenty of space, everything was clean and we had everything we needed. We could hear the surf from our bedroom, what a treat! Steve is an EXCELLENT host who goes above the call of duty to make sure his guests enjoy their stay. He provided us with snorkelling gear, spears for lobster hunting (which was a huge success - fresh lobster for dinner two nights in a row! Once courtesy of Steve's mother who lives across the street & is a fantastic cook, and the second night we cooked them ourselves in our amply supplied kitchen), took us out on his boat to fish and snorkel the blue holes, gave us plenty of fishing advice, made kayaks available... couldn't ask for a better host. Pelican Point is a good hour outside of Freeport/Lucaya, so you'll need a rental car (& map!) and should stock up on food/bottled water before you drive out to the villas. Food is pricey since it's all imported, so we brought plenty of 'camping snacks' from home too. The advantage of this distance is that you won't be fighting crowds for beach space and you'll get to explore miles of beach and ocean without seeing a soul; if you need lots of city entertainment/ night life provided you might be happier staying at a big resort. The beach itself is perfect - miles of white sand, crystal clear water, and many other beaches to explore within walking or driving distance. About 50ft down the beach from the Villas is a restaurant/bar (fairly new, I believe) called Bahama John's, where you can find some of the best BBQ and seafood you will ever eat. Bring cash if you plan to try it out (and we strongly recommend that you do!). We left our 2yo daughter at home with grandparents this time, but we could easily have brought her along. The Villas are so close to the beach, and everyone we met was so friendly and kind, that I would've felt totally comfortable leaving her inside napping and going to lay out in the hammock! Pretty kid-proof inside too. This is probably not a wheelchair-accessible vacation, if that's something you need to consider, since all the Villas do have steps leading to the front & back porches, and paths are sandy not paved. Other than that, we'd recommend Sandy Beach Villas to anyone, and would love to go back! We felt so refreshed by the end of our time there, not only by the stunning surrounding but also the hospitality of our Bahamian hosts. Thanks, Steve!!

If you like being off the beaten path this place is for you. We were there on July for a week and literally had a half of mile of beautiful beach to our selves. Inland the weather was hot and steamy but with the ocean breeze the oceanfront was amazing. Steve and his mom were the nicest people you will ever meet. They will make sure you are comfortable and have everything you need to truly enjoy your stay. He went out of his way to take us fishing so we can have fresh fish to eat and checked on us few times throughout the trip to make sure we were having a fabulous time. The beaches were pristine and the villas were beautiful and modernly furnished. We can't wait to be back!!....Hi Steve we will see you soon, hopefully this year!

Beautiful escape

This is the perfect escape destination. There are five houses here and during most of our stay we were the only visitors. We had a private beach and beautiful weather. Because the town is so isolated, you must be sure to purchase everything you will need prior to arrival - this includes food and drink, sunscreen, bug spray, etc. There is nothing nearby. The town has about 15 homes and no store - the nearest store is in Freeport. The homes offer all you could need unless you are very particular. The basics are there, the homes are clean, and Steve will make sure any outstanding needs are taken care of. If you're looking to be waited on hand and foot, however, go elsewhere. You'll track sand in to the house, you'll discover what sand flies are, and you'll love it the whole time. We will never forget this trip.

Perfect Honeymoon

Please visit the website for more pictures and a video. My wife and I had a very pleasant time during the visit. After renting a car from the airport, we drove very easily to the village. We were essentially amazed by the crystal blue waters, the tranquility of mornings and how less people there were than in resort areas. This is a truly experiance "What bahamas is all about!" Steve and his mom as well as the community are very respectful of privacy so I recommend this place to honeymooners. He made us feel safe and entertained. We went snorkeling to see coral reefs, water skiing, conch catching, and drank fresh coconut water. On some days we drove into Freeport on the way to the port. If you decide to rent, then ask Steve if he can stock your refrigerator with waters, food, or snacks. We had a memorable time. Thanks

Beautiful hideaway

We (2 adults, 2 kids - age 2 and 6) spent 5 nights in one of the houses and it was very relaxing. The kids loved the beach with its sea shells and I was absout facinated by the fact that we had this stunning beach almost on our own. The houses are right on the beach and are beautifully furnished and equiped with everything you need. Steve and his family are very caring and we enjoyed every minute. To go there you need a car and you should take groceries with you because the next shop is 40 min away.

It Doesn't Get Any Better Than This!

Just returned from a fabulous 2 week stay at Sandy Beach Villas with my husband & 18 yr old son. You can believe everything you read about Steve Laing and his villas. He is a very nice guy and an awesome host. He gets great pleasure in taking care of his guests. Whatever you need he will make sure it is taken care of. And his Mom who lives across the street is a very sweet lady who is always there to help with whatever you need. Make sure to order some dinners from her, she is known to be the best cook on the island for cracked lobster. Her cracked conch is also the best. We had many trips in his boat fishing and caught some great fish and had a couple of big fish frys with the other guests in the other villas. If you look left or right on the beach, you see sand and beautiful turquoise water for as far as the eye can see. You never see more than a few people at the beach and many times there is no one else. It is awesome. Very peaceful, secluded and private but very safe. I went out walking and jogging alone in the very early am many times. You are right at the ocean,s edge and can hear the ocean from inside the villa. It is so serene and relaxing. Some nights we had a bonfire right there on the beach. The water is very shallow for quite a way, good for children. We had a great time with the other guests and some of Steve's family & even Patrick, the neighbour across the street. They made us feel like part of the family. Everyone we met on the island was overly friendly and nice. We will definitely be back and are telling everyone we know to go and stay at Steve's villas.

Paradise in Grand Bahama

This was my first time using homeaway and what a great experience! From the minute we arrived Steve was the best host and most intent on making sure we had a wonderful stay at Pelican Point. We had a great day fishing and caught a lot of snapper and I was lucky enough to learn how to cook a traditional fish fry, went snorkeling to the blue hole many times, and had an amazing time watching all the marine life. Steve's mother is always around if you need anything and boy can she cook..some of the best lobster I have ever tried (and I'm a chef!!) It was a pleasure to meet all of the family and neighbors, all very kind and happy to show you the real Bahamas. We went to Lucaya and if you like the tourist thing, you will love it, I couldn't wait to get back to the peace and quiet of Sandybeach Villas. The cottages are very clean and comfortable and have a great deck to enjoy the sound of the ocean. I can't wait to return!! Thanks Again Steve

A Perfect Place to Relax and Unwind

My husband and I chose this location for our honeymoon and it was PERFECT. The villas are very clean, well-appointed and very comfortable. The beach was picture perfect and I've never seen a bigger smile on my husbands face than when he caught a bonefish....right in front of the house! Steve, the owner, was one of the most genuine and caring people we've ever met. He took us out fishing and my husband out spearfishing- both very successful trips! We stocked up on groceries before the drive out to Pelican Point and were most content knowing that the crystal blue water was right outside our door! We spent one day in Lucaya eating out and shopping with the other tourists, and couldn't wait to get back to our perfect little corner of the world in Pelican Point. Absolutely a perfect getaway... we can't wait to go back!

Honeymoon getaway

These Villas are right on the beach, and what a beach it is. Its quiet, remote and safe. The owner is top drawer. Early on we commented on how hospitable he was and he said, ' I can't help it my mother raised me to be this way'. We found this to be the honest truth. Steve met us at the airport and drove us in our rental car to the Villas. when we arrived we had the most spectacular meal prepared without us even knowing. We were famished and it was dark on arrival. Steve took care of us. Our week was spectacular. Rent a car and explore the Island from one tip to the other. Just remember when you turn left stay to the left side...left to left..remember that. Stock up on food, walk the beach and if Steve says he'll take you out in his motor boat...go!! You'll see remote Island villages, virgin beaches and Ocean life that you can reach into the water and touch. Steve is a hard working guy and he won't miss a beat when it comes to your comfort. Thanks Steve for a wonderful stay.

Spring break dream vacation fulfilled

Rental property exceeded the photos - was a great, clean place. Plan on renting a car or arrange transportation from Freeport - but in exchange you can relax in a safe local community and enjoy a wonderful beach, great snorkeling and accumulate authentic "fish" stories. I suggest you stock up on breakfast and lunch foods at the grocery before leaving Freeport and then enjoy the local cuisine for at least one meal/day. Many of the local ladies cook for vacationers and its well worth it. I regret I didn't have them prepare more meals for us. Our family really enjoyed the week.

A Piece of Paradise

I could not have chosen a friendlier and more beautiful spot for a week's vacation than Pelican Point and the Sandy Beach Resort. Nowhere in my vast travels have I encountered friendlier and more hospitable people. No matter what it is you need or want, everyone's interested in seeing that you're happy and satisfied. It's just amazing!!The cottages at Sandy Beach were built by Steve Laing, the owner, and are nicely done, well appointed, air conditioned and nearly new - a real treat after many of the places that I've been to. I'm a fly fisherman and found bonefish galore right in front of my cottage as well as on many nearby flats. Yes, these fish are wary, but they are catchable with my l largest approaching 9 lbs., although I saw several much larger specimens that eluded me. I had casts to permit as well, but did not hook up. The sand beach in front of the cottages is very nice, the water's quite calm and the swimming is super. The reef is just a short distance off shore and is populated with all sorts of colorful fish. You can kayak to a blue hole that is really cool and home for all manner of creatures. Did I mention the food at SAndy Beach? WOW! If you enjoy conch, fresh fish, lobster and stone crab you will be in heaven. There are local ladies who will gladly cook up incredible fare and deliver it to your cottage at very reasonable prices. I can't wait to get back to Sandy Beach for some true island hospitality, great fishing and fine food. Give this spot a try, you won't be disappointed.

Husband hits a home run

My wife was busy. Spring Break was my job. Secluded beachfront attracted my 18 year old also. Pulled next to villa my air-sick wife's first words "It's beautiful. Flat screen T.V. tile floor, cathedral ceiling-this is no hunter's cabin. Steve added snorkeling & fishing experience no extra cost. WOW! Steve's Mom cooked a couple scrumptious meals for us. St. Matthew's Baptist Church blessed us. You get close proximity to ocean with white sand beach- a down-right fair price -a owner I consider a friend. Ask Steve whatever you wonder about. Steve works very hard for you to achieve what you desire in a positive life-time memory. Aaw maybe it was a stand-up triple
