Poor Communication, not happy
We rented this property for the whole month of February , PAID IN FULL up front. Property was nice enough , but not directly in the Reunion resort nor within walking distance for many people , but that was not a problem . HOWEVER , on the 12th we received a call about family emergency that required we return home , at least temporarily. I informed the manager that we were leaving and MAY not be able to return , but would stay in touch , possibly even early booking a property for next year . We got back home late the next day (on the 13th) and attended to the family member , who had a stroke. We determined on Sunday the 16th that the family member was ok , and we might be able to resume our vacation , and was going to contact the manager the next morning . However , we received an email that next morning with a "revised" rental agreement (which we were never called about or authorized ) , dated the 17th that ended our stay ! We paid for the whole month , but he claimed we abandoned the property which we had not done (we locked it up like any time we would leave) , nor did we call him to say we were not returning . I would like proof that we did , and as far as we are concerned the property was ours until March 1st since it was fully paid for . We also could see on the 17th , on the VRBO website listing that he had already rerented the property for 7 of the days that were left ! We tried to call at that point but was unable to reach him , so we notified VRBO instead about what had happened. We were told that sending a revised agreement was not proper and they would contact the manager , which they did, but they were unable to get us back into the property , OR obtain any type of partial refund , accept for the deposit which was returned . They stated that any further negotiation would have to be with the manager , who stated he wasn't willing to. There is no justification for this treatment . This is not an acceptable or legal business practice , we did not get what we paid for , so counsel will be filing a complaint with the proper Florida authorities that regulate rentals .
