Remodeled Upper Canyon Home-Sleeps up to 14-One minute drive to Mid-Town
Welcome to Ruidoso Tara (yes, Gone with the Wind reference). Nannie and Gran Gran, my grandparents, raised me and I was Gran Gran's little Scarlet. I now own our family home & feel blessed by their legacy to share it with as many friends as I can. Ruidoso Tara is famous for lazy afternoons in the backyard-sun, music & cocktails, & long afternoon naps. If an experience of returning home is what you are after, look no further. You have found your new home away from home.
I reside on-site in the master suite. My room will be locked during your stay. I will stay elsewhere but either I or my care takers will greet you upon arrival to hand over the key. After that, the home is all yours.
Ruidoso Tara located on half an acre and sleeps 14 guests comfortably. Nestled under Ponderosa Pines, Ruidoso Tara is located in the popular Upper Canyon neighborhood. Less than a mile from both National Forest Trails and Mid-Town (Ruidoso's main shopping and restaurant strip) makes this location convenient to both explore the town, and retreat into the mountains.
Ruidoso Tara was completely remodeled in anticipation of it's VRBO debut. As a guest this means new Tuft & Needle mattresses, new bedding, black out curtains in bedrooms, new furniture, and a clean and tidy atmosphere.
Additional amenities include: * A well-equipped commercial grade kitchen * Eight top dining room table * Six top kitchen island seating * High definition flat screen television in living room only with Netflix, Amazon Prime & expanded basic cable * Wood burning fireplace
If you are an exercise enthusiast, you can walk to the top of upper canyon from my house and back and have accomplished a four mile hike. Best part of the hike is walking alongside the beautiful backdrop of a roaring river.
If you are wanting to venture out past mid-town there are many interesting designations at your fingertips. Ruidoso is located within the Lincoln National Forest with many hiking trails available. Or, if you are an adrenaline junkie, there are two zip line experiences awaiting at your fingertips. If you are a gambler look no further than the Inn of the Mountain Gods to get your engines running. Or, if you are a craft beer beer and pizza lover, head to Cloudcroft Brewing Company, my personal favorite.

Had a wonderful New Year trip with my family! The house is perfectly located near downtown but just outside enough to be nice and quiet. The house is beautifully remodeled and decorated! The fireplace was cozy and warm and perfect for family game night!

Thank you so much for your kind words. I try my best to create a warm, welcoming environment. Nothing brings me more joy than families creating lasting memories. It’s exactly what my grandparents envisioned when they purchased this house. You guys are welcome back anytime. Be blessed!
This house with it's many beds and wonderful chef's kitchen, big dining tables, and proximity to Ruidoso was perfect for our family reunion/ retirement party for Grandpa. We played a massive amount of games at the large dining table, walked the neighborhood and shopped. We even enjoyed a light dusting of snow for our after Christmas party. Christi was so considerate of us, compared to other places we have stayed. She sincerely wanted us to have a nice time and welcomed us. We did get to feed the deer too, the kids loved that. We will be back!

You and your family are the reason I decided to loan my home on VRBO. My grandparents wanted nothing more than to share their home with family and friends. Now that it’s mine, I feel I must continue the tradition. You guys are dream guests with excellent communication. I SO appreciate you treating my place like it was your own home. I can’t wait to host your crew again! God bless you and be blessed :)
The property was amazing and we couldn't have asked for a nicer, more organized host. Christi was very responsive to all of our questions and even surprised my mom with a gift for her 80th birthday! We were extremely happy and would love to stay at her home for our next vacation.

The online listing doesn’t do this home justice! The house is beautiful, wonderful location, quiet, you name is it this home has it all.
14 of us stayed in this home comfortably. The beds are comfortable, I love the kitchen, the rooms are dark and quiet which made it perfect for kids who play all day and need a restful sleep. Kitchen is well stocked with everything you need and more. Large dining table with stools at the kitchen island made is perfect to have great family meals together. Absolutely wonderful back yard. We played a game of family football and also cornhole and there was PLENTY of room to run. The neighborhood that the home is quiet as well which made the stay even better.
I can’t say enough great things about this home. Best “home away from home” I’ve ever stayed in!

I know my grandparents are smiling down from heaven that beautiful, loving families like yours are enjoying their home that now is mine. God bless you guys and you will always be welcome!
The property was great and very welcoming. We also got to see some horses right in the front yard. It was amazing.

I was super excited for David and his family that our wild horses paid them a visit in my front yard! That was a first for any of my guests and such a treat for any animal lover! I have only seen them in my neighborhood, not my actual yard. This location is a wildlife haven, no doubt.
Nice home! We had really good family time,
I really appreciate to Christi for the hospitality what a great person, Thank you 😊

Chris was phenomenal starting with our initial communication to leaving my home in the exact same manner he found it. Dream guests! Him and his family will always be welcome.
This house was updated and very beautiful. I would recommended this house to anybody based on the location and the host!
Christi was super helpful in so many ways and easy to communicate with.
She helped us sort out issues booking another night and even met us at the house to provide jumper cables when our van wouldn’t start.
This home was really close to downtown for shopping, the creek, and grindstone lake if you are looking to hike or spend some time on the lake.
You won’t regret choosing this home for your next vacation!

Every now and then a truly special guest crosses my path, and Ryan is one of them! What a blessing to host him and his wife with their youth group. He communicated with ease and my home was left spotless. I know they chose my home because camp wasn’t allowed this summer, but I will certainly welcome them back as often as they wish to come back! If you get a chance to host him, don’t pass it by.
We booked a last minute trip to ruidoso this Past weekend. We were a pretty large group totaling 14, we were struggling to find a place for all of us to stay together, until we found this Gem! Our quick getaway trip was one for the books ! From our amazing host to the beautiful home she let us borrowed to the amazing activities we all enjoyed but most importantly the memories we will all carry for a lifetime !
Thank you Christi for opening your home to our family, your home is beautiful inside and out! We will most definitely book this beautiful home again and will stay longer !

About the host
Hosted by Christi Melton
I was born in Odessa, TX and now reside in the Land of Enchantment. I was commissioned as a Stephen Minister from my church in Dallas, TX in 2003. Serving in this capacity allowed me to walk alongside many people through their darkest hour and remind them of the hope they have in Jesus Christ. Those experiences then led me on an exciting journey of becoming a Kenyan missionary. Back in June 2006, I had no idea what kind of an impact my first mission trip would have over my life. After touching Kenyan soil for the first time, my life was irreversibly changed! I inherited a Kenyan daughter and heard from the Lord that serving in this community was my life's work. Experiencing life in Obunga shifted my very being. I've learned how to need less, give more, and serve with my whole heart, no matter what the cost physically or emotionally. In addition to my time spent in Kenya, I love to listen to people's life stories, watch documentaries, read, exercise, and disco dance to my favorite band Le Freak!
Why they chose this property
Ruidoso Tara is special since it is my family home. My grandparents spent their happiest years here. I was privileged to be raised by them and then inherit our home. Nannie and Gran Gran knew how to have good time and the home exudes that vibe. Nothing brought them more joy than entertaining! I've kept the tradition alive as Ruidoso Tara has become a haven for my girlfriends. You cannot spend time here and not feel a level of peace that you simply can't find in the big city. Friends return home recharged and ready to face their next set of challenges life throws their way. My hope is to provide that same experience for you.
What makes this property unique
Ruidoso Tara is unique because it was completely remodeled after I inherited it. I am blessed to have a best friend that is an award winning interior decorator! Every inch of my home was designed and decorated with the intention of being inviting and comfortable for guests.
