About this property

Modern Mad River Valley Chalet with Mountain Views Near Everything - 4BR/3BA

*Featured in Food + Wine Magazine!* Welcome to Stars Hollow, an A-Frame Chalet-style home perfect for a romantic getaway or big family and friend getaways. We're on the Fayston/Waitsfield line and were recently featured by both Airbnb & Food & Wine Magazine as a "foodie favorite".

Step into the picturesque BBQ area, lined with string lights, and 16 feet of picnic tables for a beautiful sunset dinner overlooking the mountains.

In the winter, step inside and use our ski room to hang your boots and skis, then switch into your slippers and cozy up in our comfy green velvet and leather couches by the fireplace.

Enjoy board games on the large table with benches in the bar area of the main living space, or cozy up with a book in our book nook.

Upstairs you’ll find a scenic place to cook dinner and eat with your loved one(s) while looking out over the mountains, or open the windows and the wall-to-wall- skylights in the morning to breathe in the fresh mountain air while sipping your coffee.

Enjoy modern amenities like wi-fi, YouTube TV, and wireless phone chargers and sound machines in every bedroom. Pamper yourself with luxury linens and towels.

For a good time, visit historic Waitsfield village for shopping and food, or swim in our most popular swimming holes, waterfalls and beaches all in less than a 5 minute drive. In the winter, you're within 15 minutes of Sugarbush and Mad River Glen, and only 35 minutes to Stowe. You'll be surrounded by the best, most farm-to-table food in Vermont, including Canteen Creemee, recently highlighted in the New York Times (check their Instagram and be prepared to drool).

Our home is easy to get to, even in the snow. We are right off (less than a minute) Main St. in Waitsfield, with no scary mountain roads in the winter, and a short driveway. Note: 4WD and snow tires are necessary EVERYWHERE in Vermont from Mid-March to Mid-May due to "mud season."

Our place is decorated in art by local artists, filled with books by local authors, and furniture made by local artisans. We've provided all of our favorite places to see, eat, drink, and do, including suggested itineraries for having the best weeks and weekends in the Mad River Valley in any season.

While our second floor bannisters are not toddler-friendly, we do have a toddler ourselves, and have provided all the amenities you could need: a baby gate, high chair, changing table, walker, mini crib, and pack & play. All you need to bring are your baby's linens.

We try to help everyone have the most quintessential Vermont vacation and will help with lots of ideas for unique experiences (like picnicking atop a gorgeous hill with the most scenic views in the Valley or where to get Sunday Pie and tea at a cute little inn with a lovely backyard)! We welcome you to come and make staying at Stars Hollow Chalet your new family tradition!

* Sorry, we do not accept pets under any circumstances, in order to provide a safe space for people with serious allergies like our family.

A Cozy Christmas
We wanted a cozy place to stay over Christmas, and we found it! The house is older, but so full of charm! Everything from check in to check out was a pleasant experience. The hosts were amazingly responsive, and the house included so many wonderful touches (including a S’mores basket and cookie cutters!) to make our family trip a fantastic experience! Early skiing at Sugarbush was less than a 25 minute drive, and was a very uncrowded and beautiful place for our two teens to learn to ski for the first time. Having come from Texas, and never having been to Vermont, we weren’t sure what to expect. This house, and the quaint farming communities surrounding it, were exactly what we wanted/needed to get away! Highly recommend!!

Lovely family trip to Max
We had a lovely family visit in the Vermont mountains thanks to our property owners. We had 6 adults, 1 teenager, 1 elementary school- aged child and 1 infant. The house was spacious and it’s architecture is unique unique. There were many amenities available including cell phone chargers. Amanda, our hostess, was very quickly responsive to every question and need that we had. She was amazingly helpful. It was a great space for an infant with a crib, changing table , high chair and bottle sterilizer all available. As mentioned in the host’s description of the property this might not be the place for a toddler or younger child given the slats along the upstairs railing are wide enough to fall through. So I would discuss with Amanda if I had a young crawling or walking child prior to renting it. My family enjoyed shopping, hiking and eating at various restaurants plus we were able to easily cook at home. The backyard view was beautiful as well. We had a wonderful time and if we were in the area again we would rent the home again.

About the host

Host profile image
Our family loves to cook, garden, and travel! We never imagined one day we'd be able to also become hosts like the ones we so admired for so long. We took a LOT of notes along the way and try to give every guest the best possible experience for however long or short they are with us.

Why they chose this property

We live in Massachusetts and found ourself always up exploring Vermont, and once we stumbled upon the utopia that is Mad River Valley, with their festival-like Saturday farmers markets, cheese shops, scenic overlooks and picnicking spots, live music and just overwhelmingly VT authenticity and character, we were absolutely HOOKED. Once our daughter was born and we'd saved up for a down payment, we bought the home, renovated it top to bottom, and the rest is history! Now we get to share it with you AND we get to visit the Mad River Valley whenever we want, win-win!

What makes this property unique

This home is so perfect for a few families getting together, because we've carved out a number of sitting areas so that people can either sit together or have their own space. Another pretty unique feature about the property is that the entire peak of the house is wall-to-wall skylights, so if you're sleeping in one of the two upstairs bedrooms, you can actually see the stars on a clear night. On that note, the two upstairs bedrooms (a queen and the two twins) have an open shared ceiling, so privacy is somewhat limited but great for parents with kids you want to keep tabs on.
