About this property

The Board Room-Enchanted Table Meadow. Near Deep Creek Lake & Wisp! Forest View!

Come as you are & take a seat at nature’s table under the canopy of stars. Embrace the wooded ambiance and meadow views from our 2000 sq. ft suite. We are conveniently located between I-68 and Deep Creek Lake/Wisp Ski Resort. Our hope is to provide a serene landscape where you can experience peace and rest through nature. Our setup works well for business travelers, couples, couples with children and for those celebrating a special occasion.

The Board Room is a brand new ground floor 2000 SQ FT 2 Bedroom/1 Bath suite, with two private entrances. The rear entrance is 1 step and the side entrance is 7 steps. While it is the lower level of our home, it is soundproofed to where normal conversations cannot be heard. You may hear some footsteps. It has central heat and air conditioning, with an exterior entrance & parking for 2-3 cars. The Board Room parking and entrance is on a different side of the house from the main entrance and is shared with the guests from our other space - The Butterfly Suite.. We are hidden at the end of a 700’ lane through a forest carpeted with ferns.

The Board Room overlooks a 60-acre former strawberry farm where deer and wild turkeys are frequent guests. Feel free to gander at our resident chickens and take a leisurely walk /hike through the woods and our property! Take a seat and enjoy the stars in their nightly splendor while sitting around the fire pit. In the summer air you can hear the music of cicadas and crickets strumming their wings and spring peepers in the moonlight. This is one of my favorites!

Although this is newly constructed there is plenty of age & history. Most of the stone used on the premises are from the farm. Some of the hand cut stones used in the landscaping were from the foundation of a (1800’s) school that Ken’s grandfather attended. The head board in the master bedroom was constructed by Ken & Cheryl from 140-year-old barn-boards.

The master bedroom has a king size bed. The bathroom with a tub/shower is across the hall from the master bedroom. The 2nd Bedroom has curtains over the doorway and has a queen bed and a full bed. There is a single bed sized day bed with a trundle in the room with the ping pong table. There is also a couch in the Living Room that can be used to sleep on. A Pack-n-Play can be made available if requested in advance.

The Board Room has a kitchenette with a stainless steel sink, fridge, toaster oven, microwave, single burner induction cooktop, electric kettle, a drip coffee maker, and a Keurig coffee maker. The kitchen is also equipped with cooking and eating utensils, sugar, salt, basic spices, assorted teas, a few K-Cups, etc.

This is a perfect yet affordable location for a peaceful retreat in the country or for a family ski/lake weekend. It also works great for a business traveler looking for a home away from home. We are located near a state forest which makes this a convenient location for hunters. The outdoor seating is a great location to have your morning coffee and watch the sun rise and the deer graze in the meadow!

There is a streaming ROKU TV in the Living Room. A DVD player and some assorted DVD movies are available for you to use. The ping pong table has been a big hit with our guests, especially for families with children!

Free Wireless Internet is available. It is provided by Comcast and with our current router, the speed is typically about 36 MBPS.

To make the stay of our guests with allergies more pleasant, this is a NO SMOKING and NO PET property.

Guests have exclusive use of the suite. There are two parking spaces designated for our guests. Outdoor areas are shared. Quiet time is from 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM.

This is also a smoke free and illegal drug free property.

The Neighborhood

We also have the Butterfly Suite that sleeps 6 if you have a larger group and it is also listed on VRBO. We also own a cabin a few hundred yards away that sleeps 13 so extended family and friends can stay nearby but retire to their own private space. The two-acre lake is visible from the property.

Cozy, quaint and tasteful
Our family stayed at this property during a ski weekend at nearby Wisp. We weren't quite sure what to expect, but as soon as we opened the door we felt right at home. Our teenage kids loved it. The main area is perfect for gathering, playing games, reading, or eating together. The ping pong table was also a hit. The hosts were extremely gracious, and we appreciated the fresh homemade bread and jam they left for us. We plan on coming back again - it's the perfect place to stay when visiting Deep Creek in winter or summer.

About the host

Hosted by Ken Maust

Host profile image
I, Ken, grew up in Accident, MD on a farm. In 1995 I moved to Nashville, TN to take a job as a Road Manager/Sound Engineer for many different artists. This took me to all 50 states and about 15 countries. In Nashville, I met my wife Cheryl who was working for the management company of George Strait, Lee Ann Womack, Dierks Bentley, and others. She also went to school for interior design.
We got married in 2002 and now have 4 children. After the children came along, I decided I no longer wanted to be on the road all the time, so I got a "real job" in the building industry designing homes. In 2014 we decided to move back to Accident, MD. Cheryl and I designed our new home and we moved in Dec 2017.
We both love having guests over and enjoy cooking. Sipping a fresh cup of hot coffee on the front porch while watching the deer and wild turkeys is an enjoyment of ours. Cheryl's parents both moved to the US from Cuba in the 1950's so Cheryl's first language was Spanish. Cheryl grinds her own flour and bakes fresh bread regularly. Her homemade pizzas will rival any pizza shop! One of her passions is to take old furniture or other objects and take her artistic touch to turn them into something new, useful and exciting! She also enjoys oil painting when she gets the opportunity.
While I now spend much of my time working from home designing houses, I also mix sound at a local state university where they bring in various national/international artists. Since 1997, I have been the road manager/sound engineer for Grammy winner Bob Carlisle - "Butterfly Kisses". Although he is now “semi-retired”, I still occasionally do a concert with him.

Why they chose this property

We built this house on a 5 acre lot at the edge of the farm I grew up on.

What makes this property unique

As a child, I always loved this corner of the farm with it's old growth hemlock trees, the fern carpeted forest floor and all of the wildlife. It was always my dream to someday design and build a house here!
