I only stayed for one night but the house was clean, and the room was very comfortable. Other than one of the male guests attempting to enter the bathroom when I was finishing a shower and the door was clearly locked, the other guests in the house were quiet overall. Host was very responsive, check-in and check-out were easy. Good stay.
The property and its proximity to businesses and restaurants is just wonderful. Glad I booked this room, and I had a lot of fun in the Boston area as a result. Will definitely be staying here again If I ever get the chance.
A lot of instructions for check-in, but they were very clear and easy, giving me no trouble. The bed and bedding were VERY comfortable and cozy, especially after a long fall day of walking around Boston. Not too far from 57 bus stop, which was nice; only downside was the long walk up a semi-steep hill to get to the house, but that's more just my sign to pack lighter on my trips!
Shared bath always available, no waiting. Excellent shower! Bedroom was adequate, bed comfortable. All was totally clean and fresh. 2 flights of narrow stairs were awkward for this 75 year old body.
Charles is great, and the house is lovely. The location is fairly distant from downtown, if that matters to you. Be aware that you are sharing a living space with other guests. My first night, some folks returned home after midnight feeling merry and started shouting, singing and laughing outside by bedroom, and I couldn't get back to sleep for hours. This was not Charles's fault, and when I notified him the next day, he promptly sent an email telling guests to respect quiet hours for others. So I'm inclined to stay there again.
Amazing property. Alot of stairs...lol...I had LARGE luggage. Restful stay. Quiet location. Extremely responsive Host. I LOVED the bathrooms...omg...the bath gel: eased my travel aches.
My friend stayed here and he found it clean and quiet. There is laundry and a kitchen and is a convenient location in the Boston area. He tried to book another month but it was all booked.
You’re always a little nervous with a room in a house and shared bathroom but Mr McFadden’s spot is amazing! Feels super homey and private. The attention to detail is fabulous. Beautiful house and comfy bed, good shower, other guests were quiet. While we didn’t use it, there is a Keurig for guests and soft, clean towels are provided. You won’t regret this choice. Thanks Charles!
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Perthshire House before a few years ago. The price was affordable and we liked the neighborhood, so we decided to book ourselves the same room again and the second stay did not disappoint! The place is clean and the host is communicative and professional. We could've done without the Google home pod assistant things in the living room and kitchen suddenly shouting "WELCOME TO THE PERTHSHIRE HOUSE!" at seemingly random intervals, but that's a minor complaint.
This is a lovely home in what seems like a safe location. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner, and he was super nice and made me feel so welcome and comfortable! It was convenient to have access to the washer/dryer onsite. The shared bathroom takes some getting used to, but I did not have any trouble with that at all (mostly available when I needed and the couple of times I had to wait, the other guests were good about doing what they needed to do and getting out- no long showers, etc). The room does not have a tv, which I think is noted in the listing and was not an issue for me, as I did not spend much time in the room. Overall, a very comfortable stay, and I would happily stay here again as a single woman traveling alone. You can hear other guests walking around upstairs, some street noise, etc. (it's an older home with wood floors, which is nice and adds to the charm, but can also contribute to noise). If you're a light sleeper and those types of ambient house noises bother you, I would recommend a sound machine or something similar.
What a beautiful house in a very charming neighborhood! Felt so warm and comfortable. I will definitely recommend this place to friends traveling in Boston.
I loved this cozy room. It was far enough out of downtown to be quiet but not too far to make anything inaccessible. I didn’t love the three flights of stairs but the view more than made up for it. The only drag was sharing the bathroom - the shower and toilet were together, so don’t expect easy access between 8-9 am. But I got a good schedule going that made it easier. All in all, would definitely stay again ❤️
Property manager is very responsive and courteous. Nice, quiet neighborhood, a good 45 min walk to visit my son in Boston College.
Kudos to the owner for keeping the property up to date and providing a nice, clean room to stay without breaking my wallet (which the university cost already did).
Will definitely stay again.
We enjoyed our stay in the house. The room was small but the view was great. The bathroom was impressive. Charles was amazing with communication and super accommodating. He even let me check in early! We would definitely stay here again.
