About this property

Le Colombier du Vieux Château

Sabine and Bernard welcome you to a rare and authentic 12th-century dovecote, meticulously restored according to traditional methods into a comfortable and unique holiday retreat. Nestled peacefully on the edge of a bucolic pasture where their horse, Ibellino (a French trotter), grazes, it sits on a vast 2-hectare natural property at the foot of a majestic, perfectly restored and preserved medieval fortress dating back to 1056, a listed historical monument (a stronghold of the Dukes of Burgundy). This historic family home has been in their possession for generations (guided tours available upon request). Set amidst meadows on a gentle hillside near a small forest, the castle offers a panoramic view of the charming village of Chassy, the verdant Arroux Valley, and the town of Gueugnon. Total tranquility, nestled in the heart of the unspoiled countryside of northern Charolais (largely protected as a ZNIEFF area for its rich fauna and flora), in the hollow of a vast plateau of wooded meadows (home to the famous Charolais cattle in season) dotted with fields, rivers, ponds, and forests. A magnificent, rolling landscape combining agriculture and unspoiled nature, perfect for exploring on relaxing walks or mountain bike rides. An ultra-peaceful setting and location. A truly unique cottage that has retained its original "rotunda" architecture, punctuated by elegant "nest boxes." The living room is very spacious. A warm, rustic charm with contemporary touches, enhanced by an exceptional heritage restoration (the stone cornices, the sculptural "star-shaped" roof structure, the beams, stone lintels, and period terracotta tiles remain). Full of charm and character. A cozy and inviting atmosphere perfectly complements the magical and utterly enchanting charm of the setting. A pleasant, intimate enclosed gravel terrace offers beautiful views of the surrounding countryside and village. Composition Access to the property is via a 100m paved driveway. A dovecote (completely independent) adjoins the owners' château and historic outbuildings (offering complete privacy). Wi-Fi. Electric heating. Washing machine in an external laundry room (direct access from the cottage). The cottage is on two levels. Ground floor: living room/kitchen/lounge. First floor: bedroom (double bed 160x200cm), shower room, separate WC, laundry room. Courtyard (gravel) + enclosed terrace (gravel) + bicycle storage + private parking. Supermarket 5.5 km. Shops & services 9 km. A truly exceptional and 100% unusual address nestled on a site steeped in history! A very rare, authentic, characterful dovecote built in the 12th century - carefully re-enchanted into a comfortable and charming holiday home - nestled on the edge of meadows at the foot of a majestic medieval fortress dating from 1056, classified as a "Historical Monument" (stronghold of the Dukes of Burgundy), on a vast natural property of 2 hectares, 9 km from Gueugnon, a "town in the countryside" with a rich industrial past (numerous amenities including supermarkets). Calm and total tranquility, perched in a "panoramic lookout" in the heart of the meadows, on a gentle hill overlooking a small typical village, in the heart of the gentle preserved countryside of northern Charolais (largely protected as a ZNIEFF for its rich fauna and flora), nestled between the green valleys of the Bourbince and the Arroux, a magnificent hilly setting combining agriculture and the great outdoors, between bucolic hedgerows, forests, rivers and ponds, not far from the banks of the Loire, the "last wild river in Europe" protected as a "Natura 2000 Zone" (for its exceptional ecosystems). Ideally located on the Romanesque churches circuit and numerous marked hiking trails (complemented by an extensive network of "greenways" in the area, for walking or mountain biking), 10 km from the Canal du Centre Greenway, which runs alongside the EuroVelo 6 cycle route and the "Tour de Bourgogne à Vélo" (a route also perfect for relaxing boat trips), 15 km from the "Cycloroute 71" (Tour de Saône et Loire by bike), 16 km from the legendary GTMC mountain bike route (Grande Traversée du Massif Central), 18 km from the "Véloire" Greenway along the Loire River, approximately 30 km of mountain bike trails certified "VTT-FFC" (a vast, interconnected "star-shaped" network crisscrossing the Brionnais region), and about 50 km from the first vineyards of the Côtes Mâconnaises & Côtes Chalonnaises ("Wine Routes of Burgundy" & "Route des Grands Vins" to discover). On the borders of the sublime preserved territory of Charolais-Brionnais labeled "Pays d'Art et d'Histoire" (land of livestock & traditions, cradle of the AOC of globally recognized cattle breed), at the crossroads of Autunois-Morvan (& its Natural Park) and Chalonnais, not far from Mâconnais, Clunisois-Tournugeois, Sologne & Montagne Bourbonnaise and Pays Roannais. 14 km from Diverti'Parc (a unique family-oriented nature park in Burgundy), 18 km from Digoin (a river marina nestled at the confluence of three canals), 20 km from Paray-le-Monial, 24 km from the famous Paldenshangpa Buddhist temple, 26 km from Charolles, 32 km from the spa and medieval town of Bourbon-Lancy, 36 km from the medieval town of Mont-Saint-Vincent (and its exceptional panoramic viewpoint), 45 km from Le Creusot (renowned Combes amusement park / Le Creusot TGV train station 42 km away), 42 km from Marcigny, 46 km from the charming medieval village of Semur-en-Brionnais, awarded the prestigious "Most Beautiful Villages of France" label, 51 km from the famous Gallo-Roman archaeological site of Bibracte, a designated "Grand Site de France", and 53 km from the very The renowned PAL amusement park and 54 km from Autun (designated a "City of Art & History"). A soothing, magical and enchanting haven for a rejuvenating "green break" for couples, "outside of time", yet close to all amenities!
