Remember, Thats a batch off the grid...so don't compare it to a 5star hotel.
We enjoyed our stay. Bruce and his wife a really nice guys.
We will come back.
Property as advertised, great location. Pretty basic hut, light powered by batteries, no mains power or running water. Take your own camping supplies. Owner changed our dates at our request. This is a great location if you want to be off the grid, the shingle road is in an excellent condition.
Really enjoyed our time here. The hut was very clean and better equipped than we were expecting from the details. It had the all important insect screens on the window and door which meant when we were inside we didn’t have to worry about sandflies which made it very pleasant. We took stuff we didn’t need as there were pillows, pots and pans, a kettle and a decent array of utensils there was a cooker but no gas so it would pay to bring your own. The shower was good, it was over a bathtub which you couldn’t use it as a bath as water and gas are limited. However there were plenty of river pools and streams if you wanted a soak. We didn’t need to use the fire but there was plenty of firewood matches etc . We walked, fished and read. It was v peaceful. There is no internet or phone coverage until you drive the 20 km into Ahura but that suited us perfectly. We took our dog who had a wonderful time. The property was fully fenced. We had the full gambit of weather pouring rain ,high winds and glorious sunshine so a true West coast holiday.
Myself my partner out dog and my horse felt welcome and the owner so kindly taped off a nice safe secure area for the horse!
Outstanding hospitality thank you so much for the experience will definitely be back a beautiful place.
The bach is clean and comfortable, has everything you need for a lovely break away. Beautiful location near the river, and a stunning drive in through amazing native bush. The local tui came to visit the flax bushes outside the hut often, made for a very special stay. Thanks so much Brent, we'll definitely be back :)
Truly a good way to disconnect from the world of the internet. Place easy to find and clean and tidy. The stove worked a treat and the outdoor shower an added bonus. Got in lots of walks with my dog and meet two of the neighbours when helping clear a fallen tree on road. Also got to explore some of the places my family from. There was no check in processes instructions given and all that was needed. Would recommend as paved to chill out and enjoy own company
If you are looking for a true ‘off grid’ experience in a magic setting consider this.
Best summarised as a clean and very well equipped ‘DoC’ type hut, that you can drive right to and have all to yourself. Recommended to those that want an off the grid getaway without the hard work.
We stayed one night in the bach close to the river when the owner offered an upgrade to another bach in the bush. We have enjoyed both baches. The surroundings are fabulous, there is almost unlimited tramping, hunting, fishing and kayaking nearby. Owner is friendly and communication was good.

Cute cosy wee hut, amazing location for a quiet getaway. Brent was super helpful, will be back
Loved the location and the brilliant drive thru the native bushland added to the uniqueness. Very clean and has been brilliantly restored. A special part of the West Coast, away from it all, very refreshing
