Escape - A Tranquil Retreat For Two

From one of our reviewers... "A very special country retreat". We couldn't have said it better. We look forward to welcoming you.

Leader Valley Cottage is a lovingly restored 1900's cottage nestled within a beautifully established garden, set in the Leader Valley. It is located within the scenic Alpine Pacific Triangle which includes Hanmer Springs, Waipara and Kaikoura.

The cottage has one large bedroom with ensuite, open-plan living and dining room, a cosy sitting room and a fully equipped kitchen, with its own private terrace and BBQ facilities. Surrounded by stunning luscious gardens with an enchanting private courtyard.

The cottage is set in a secluded location 17 km from Cheviot, which has a supermarket, restaurants and cafes. Christchurch Airport is a 1.5 -2 hour drive away.

Perfect for a weekend getaway set in the heart of the Alpine Triangle .. conveniently placing you within an hour of; hot-pools in Hanmer Springs, whale-watching in Kaikoura, ski-ing at Mt Lyford, wineries in Waipara, surfing in Gore Bay or fishing at our local Waiau River.

With so many activities you are spoilt for choice, or you may prefer to appreciate the peace and tranquility our cottage provides. Whatever you choose to do, you can return to a warm and cosy evening in front of our Bakers Oven fireplace which also gives you the unique opportunity to cook a meal in!
Special conditions:
- Children under the age of 2 years are welcome, a crib can be provided if requested.
- Please inform Leader Valley Cottage of your expected arrival time in advance.
- A fully equipped kitchen is provided, and we suggest you purchase any food and beverages before your stay. We are located 17km from Cheviot which has a supermarket, restaurants and cafes which generally close between 5 - 6.30pm.

Beautiful and peaceful

This is the 2nd time we have stayed here. A beautiful restoration railway cottage. In a rural location, it is a beautiful place to relax and unwind. Raelyn is a thoughtful and caring host. Thanks again for having us.

Stunningly restored period cottage

What a beautiful little gem this sympathetically restored cottage is. The owner has managed to keep the period features and character whilst providing modern comforts. Cosy living room with period decoration and furnishing and well fitted bathroom and kitchen with all modern features whilst maintaining the cottage’s character. We are only sorry we could not stay longer. The porch is a lovely spot for an evening beer before retiring to the comfy bed.

A Great Place for an Overnight Stop

A lovely old-fashioned cottage for our stay between Blenheim and Twizel. Perfect for eating outside, with all the necessary facilities. No Wi-Fi, which may be a bonus (?).

One night get away

Our get away was more perfect than I had anticipated, the cottage is perfectly comfortable and cosy with a modern kitchen and bathroom with more than enough amenities. The gardens are so beautiful I found myself sitting outside for hours just sitting and watching the birds. Will definitely be back!

Perfect place for Tranquility and Relaxation

We desperately needed a getaway to relax and de-stress and found this beautiful wee cottage. It was absolutely perfect and suited our needs plus more. The hosts were awesome and respected our privacy (and vice versa). The cottage was warm and cosy especially with the log burner. You could feel the aroha/love of the place and how attention to detail was given in every aspect of the renovation. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone who wants to chill and relax away from the rat race.

Little slice of paradise

Although beautiful, the photos don't do this place justice. We stayed a couple of nights on our way north to break up the trip and explore an area we normally pass right through. So pleased we did! The attention to detail inside and out of this property is fantastic. The cottage has everything we could want and more. Gorgeous modern bathroom, very comfy bed, well stocked kitchen etc etc. Beautifully renovated to a high standard by a craftsman who obviously loves his craft. The peaceful gardens are stunning and the hammock is a lovely spot to relax under the apple trees at the end of a hot summers day, while the sunny verandah was the perfect spot for breakfast listening to the birdsong. Look forward to a return visit in the future.

Absolute perfection

The cottage was just stunning and you could tell real care has been taken in restoring and running it. Every detail has been thought of: from the the beautifully stocked kitchen to the availability of books and movies through to the divine bathroom. Check-in was contactless and covid safe although we did meet the owners and they were wonderful hosts. They even helped us city folk who were unsure getting the fire going. I would highly recommend.

This cottage raises the bar

We booked this cottage with not much notice and with no expectations and it truly has become the highlight of our South Island trip, every little detail has been thought of, from the craftsmanship of the house to the spices in the kitchen. If you are considering staying here, just do it!!!

The hosts were so thoughtful- they considered all the finer details on how they could make our stay just perfect! We live in Christchurch and escaped the kids for a couple of days.
