About the host
Hosted by Usha
Our connection to this beautiful Victorian building began more than five decades ago and is deeply tied to our journey to Saint John NB , and our life in the historic city of Saint John.
In 1971, we received an invitation to come to Saint John . when the medical community in Saint John needed a urologist to serve the growing population. At the time, the Saint John Regional Hospital was expanding its services and welcomed physicians who were willing to contribute to the healthcare needs of the region. We were honoured by the invitation and excited by the opportunity to begin a new chapter of our lives in Saint John.
When we arrived , we were immediately struck by the city’s history, its beautiful harbour, and the warmth of its people. It quickly became clear to us that this was a place where we could build not only a professional career but also a meaningful life. Because both major hospitals were located nearby, we hoped to find a property that could serve as our professional home .
In 1973, an extraordinary opportunity presented itself. A historic Victorian building in Uptown Saint John became available for purchase. The moment I saw it, I recognized the remarkable architectural character and craftsmanship that defined the structure. As an architect, I had always admired the beauty of Victorian architecture the high ceilings, sense of permanence that such buildings carry.
Although it needed careful attention and restoration, its underlying structure was strong and full of potential. I immediately saw the possibility of restoring the building to its natural elegant
Over the years, I undertook a careful and thoughtful restoration of the property. My goal was never to change its character but rather to preserve and reveal the beauty that was already present in the original design.
This property has been part of our family .
Why they chose this property
When we first arrived in Saint John, finding a property close to the hospitals was very important to us. This Victorian building came up for sale in 1973 . This property stood out because it is only a five-minute walk from both St. Joseph’s Hospital and Saint John Regional Hospital. It was a perfect location for Dr Tewari , convenient for our patients .
Another important reason we chose this property was the wonderful neighborhood around us. Over the years, our neighbors have become lifelong friends. To our left is the professional home of Dr. Briniyak, now retired, and nearby is a beautiful historic church. To our right are the lovely heritage buildings of Chipman Hill Suites.
Since the 1973 this neighbourhood has felt like a close-knit community where neighbours look out for one another. That sense of friendship, history, and shared respect for these beautiful buildings made this property feel like the perfect place for our professional home.
Even today, the neighborhood continues to reflect the same welcoming spirit that first drew us here many years
What makes this property unique
What makes this property truly special is its rare balance of location and tranquility. While it is located just minutes from the heart of Uptown Saint John, guests can easily walk to restaurants, the waterfront, and attractions such as Market Square and the Saint John Boardwalk, yet return to a neighborhood that remains quiet, secure, and peaceful.
The area is known for being safe and well established, located close to important civic institutions including the Saint John Police Force, the New Brunswick Provincial Court, and the Saint John Fire Department. This adds an extra sense of security and stability to the neighborhood.
Another unique aspect is the community itself. The neighborhood is friendly and welcoming while also being respectful of privacy. Residents have lived here for many years, creating a sense of continuity and care for the historic buildings that define this part of the city.
Guests often appreciate that they can enjoy the energy of Uptown Saint John during the day and return in the evening to a calm, comfortable, and secure environment. This combination of historic charm, central location, and peaceful surroundings is what makes this property truly unique. 🏡
