Beautiful space, very unique place, it feels like you're sleeping in the forest but in the comfort of the studio. Lots of windows and beautiful space to sit and enjoy the outside as well. Was a wonderful get away with my 6 year old daughter to connect and get out of the city. Thank you

Wobbly Hobbit delivers

Such an adorable place. And the unique building style kept us cool on hot days. The host was friendly and attentive but not intrusive. A tiny home takes a bit more work because there's not a lot of room to spread things out but everything we needed was there. The composting toilet is awesome but a bit awkward for anyone with mobility issues. I plan to return here very soon.

About the host

Host profile image
I built this studio with a master alternative builder over the course of six years and wanted to share this ancient and sustainable building method with folks. What better way than to host people who can experience first hand what a "light clay" constructed tiny home looks AND feels like. I marvel at the beauty of the West Coast every day and enjoy helping others explore this magical place in a respectful way.

Why they chose this property

I live in a neighborhood that is centrally located in the rural Cowichan Valley and is 45 minutes from the city of Victoria. Perhaps the biggest reason why I built this studio is the fact that my house backs onto a vibrant green space with towering cedar trees and an impressive array of bio-diversity in plain sight. I have spent countless hours watching deer, racoons, squirrels, rabbits and numerous bird species from both inside and out of the studio.

What makes this property unique

The Wobbly Hobbit studio is definitely one of a kind. The name was chosen to reflect the use of wine barrels throughout and the fact that about 1/3 of the structure is underground. No round door, but we think it captures the hobbit house feel of the studio.

The living roof is lush and provides a private space to view the wildlife that abounds in the forest below.

A custom built masonry stove is a testament to the efficient and ancient technology that has been almost forgotten. The walls are a foot thick and are built with forms like concrete but rather infilled with a mixture of clay, straw, sand and water. The walls are very strong, a good insulator and can be sculpted into whatever the heck you want!

The bath house is functional small space with a small sink and self contained composting toilet. We have used a half wine barrel as a base for a stand up shower that opens up to a skylight with a giant red cedar towering above.

Too many funky features to list in detail...
