I wanted quiet and peaceful so no solar and a very big LOUD generator was a bummer. Property was nice to look at but not very walkable on property except down to road due to over growth. Couldn’t sit at picnic table or use fire ring due to knee high weeds great for bees and flys, ticks etc , not so much humans and small old dog. Better directions needed never found out how to heat water for shower. Property has lots of potential just needs some tweaking.

We’re glad you appreciated the property and its surrounding bees and wildlife! This is intentionally a rugged, off-grid setting rather than maintained parkland, and the surrounding area is planted as bee habitat, so it is not intended to be fully mowed. Guests were advised before arrival that the solar system was unavailable and the backup generator would be needed. Instructions for the home’s systems are also provided in the welcome book. We appreciate your feedback and hope this context helps future guests determine whether this unique setting is the right fit for their stay.

No fishing and No power lead to early departure

The description of this cabin is misleading and lead us to an early departure. We rented the cabin for two nights while in town for a local wedding. On the first night of our stay there was a significant infestation of large carpenter ants in the bathroom and loft sleeping area. There was also significant wood shavings found in the bedding. Our first morning we were looking forward to taking our kids trout fishing as advertised in the cabin listing. The booklet found at the property warned us to avoid the yellow parsnip which was abundant on the trails to the trout stream. The need for proper protection was not communicated to us prior to our arrival. The significant overgrowth of all foliage prevented us from accessing the stream and we were unable to fish at all. We later returned to the cabin after hiking and found the cabin without power. The cumulation of the ants, inability to fish and no power, resulted in our decision to leave the property a night early. We would recommend families find other accommodations when staying in the area.

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We're sorry for the frustration caused by the ants and the power loss that led to your early departure. To ensure this doesn't happen again, we've had a contractor caulk potential entry points and completed a thorough treatment to resolve the ant issue completely. Regarding the stream access, we maintain a clear six-foot-wide path down to the water, though we intentionally keep the surrounding meadow unmowed as a pollinator habitat for local bees. We provide the on-site guide regarding wild parsnip to help keep our guests informed and safe while exploring the area. Lastly, we take power reliability seriously and have already upgraded to a larger battery storage system, with an expanded rooftop solar system being installed soon to better support future stays.

This was a very mixed experience. Pros: This little cabin is a gem. If you like tiny homes, you will love this. Cute, cozy, with a loft. It’s in a tranquil, isolated area where you can see hundreds of fireflies at dusk, stargaze at night, and watch hummingbirds in the morning. Additionally, the owner offered to meet us halfway when we forgot something, which was very generous.Cons: Unfortunately, there were many cons. The listing offers an off-grid cabin with solar panels, but the solar panels weren’t working for our visit. The cabin was powered by a very loud gas-powered generator. This greatly detracted from the tranquility and nature. The generator stopped working twice during our stay, leaving us without power for several hours each time. The combination lock stopped working and we were locked out of the cabin for approximately an hour. The owner responded, but could not get the lock to work. With the owner’s permission, we had to let ourselves in through a window. The fire ring was inaccessible because of overgrowth. The provided coffee, advertised in the listing, was hard as a brick. Finally, the owner was very slow to respond to text messages about the generator dying and about being locked out, sometimes not responding for several hours.Due to all the issues, we asked for one night’s refund. The owner instead gave us 33.24 off a 384.23 bill. While this property is beautiful and a gem, any potential VRBO customer should beware.

We’re glad you enjoyed the cabin’s peaceful setting, fireflies, stargazing, and hummingbirds, and we appreciate your kind words about the assistance you received. We’re sorry the power and lock issues affected your experience. Before your arrival, we shared that the solar system was unavailable and that a generator would provide power, along with fuel and operating instructions. When the combination lock malfunctioned, an emergency locksmith was called, and the issue was repaired that same day. After checkout, we also drove approximately 50 miles each way to return a purse and car key that were left behind. We appreciate your feedback and will continue working to ensure guests have a comfortable stay.
