Wednesday Farmer's Market
Hosted by Robin Deal
Ask a questionAbout Robin Deal
I have lived on the water my whole life. My father was a dredge-man and he would travel the great lakes with our family in tow. He came back to Luna Pier, as it was both he and my mother's home town, to be by their parents. It was an exciting life as a child. From floods to mounds of ice that moved across the Lake piling two stories high against the coast, the Lake was something that left you in awe of it's power. I was never bored and loved being here. The small looking farm style home directly across the street was my grandparent's in which I purchased around 1999 and raised my family. My grandfather had a bait house on the property and also rented row boats. My family lived next door in a tiny house and life on the lake was all I knew. Fishing and old steel boats where part of everyday life. Many a day I sat looking over this lake thinking about life, love, heartbreak and dreams of things to come. It has always inspired me, especially the sunrises. It calms my heart and makes me feel grateful. It puts me asleep when I am anxious. It will forever remind me of my past and those I loved, and keeps me hopeful for the future. I think it was created for that.
Robin Deal purchased this house in 2011
Why Robin Deal chose Luna Pier
This property was a dream. I never thought I would own a house that I got to see the sun come up over the water. It is breath taking. You will lose sleep so not to miss it(with a cup of coffee in hand of course!) The enclosed glass sun room allows great views regardless of the weather. It is my favorite room in the house. I am only the third person to own this house. It was built by my father's best friend (Louie) in 1998 after removing the small cottage given him from his father named Pipi LaPointe. I have many memories cleaning Pipi LaPointe's small cottage with my mother.( It was always full of tobacco smoke as PiPi loved his cigars!) We also spent our fourth of July here as both Louie and my father (Wild Bill) loved messing with fireworks! All the grandmas in the area including mine and neighbors would come and sit by the water and watch them go off. We now have a city provided firework show. Once again, there is nothing like watching it over the Lake! Another amazing experience you could have around the middle of June is the "Flight of the Fairies!" They are called May Flies or June Bugs by the locals but actually look like little "fairies" and are harmless. It is quite a phenomenon and can only happen if the Lake is clean. They are food for the fish as well as the many birds but they love light so make sure to turn down the lights at dusk.(Once, while driving through our little town, I actually saw a couple teens trying to get as many to land on them as possible by draping lights around their necks!)
What makes this house unique
The Blue Afterglow is a quiet little hide-away! The longer cement drive up to our home is off of a dead end road. When you step into the home you are immediately drawn forward to the water. It is really visible from every room! If you like hearing the waves, sea gulls and eagles then this is the place for you. You actually get to eat diner while enjoying a beautiful view of the water! We also own to the water's edge and that means privacy which I cherish. If I want people and the beach, it's almost exactly 1\2 mile down the road. It is a nice walk or take the car or a golf cart as this is a golf cart friendly town and so you are welcome to bring yours! I really hope you are caught up in the beauty of the Lake and you are able to make wonderful memories that will last a lifetime as I have.
