About this property

Lake view, Private farm, King bed, Salmo/Fruitvale

Wake up to goats grazing outside your large front window and enjoy your morning coffee on the wrap around deck overlooking beautiful Erie Lake and a charming historic red barn. This 1-bedroom country cottage with a king sized bed sits on 16 acres, offering the perfect blend of farm charm, comfort, and adventure. Feed the animals and enjoy the mountains. The owners live on the same property and run a wellness business from the main home. Located directly off of Highway 3 for easy access.

The space
This peaceful 16-acre property has two dwellings. The hosts live in the main home and run a manual therapy business during the week.

The guest cottage is a private, stand-alone unit located across a small bridge and seasonal creek from the main house, offering a private stay. There are no neighboring properties on either side of the land.

Across the road you’ll find a trail that leads to the lake, which is great for fishing and paddle boarding. While there is no beach, we usually swim from the boat launch area. 8 minute walk.

Feel free to explore the forested area at the back of the property—just bring your hiking shoes. Guests are also welcome to spend time with the goats and chickens and feed them some snacks.

Seasonal produce and fresh eggs may be available for purchase if available.

Guest access
Feel free to roam the property and explore. Unfortunately, due to the age of the red barn and safety concerns, the inside is off limits—but you’re welcome to take photos from the outside.

Please do not enter the animal enclosures. You’re welcome to enjoy the plentiful fruit trees when in season, or cross the highway to access a beautiful trail that leads down to the lake.

Other things to note
Please note: the property is located just off of Highway 3. Some traffic noise may be heard. We are 5 minutes West of Salmo and 12 minutes East of Fruitvale. The host also runs a business from the main home during the week, so there may be clients coming and going on the property during that time, however, this does not impact the cottage. Drinking/cooking water is provided as the cottage is fed with creek water. There is cell phone service at the property, however, some providers are patchy.

We moved to the beautiful Kootenays 3 years ago from the Fraser Valley in hopes of a simpler more intentional life. We landed on this beautiful property and have been working to revitalize it. We love to be out in nature and working on the land with the animals and garden. I hope to share this little piece of paradise with others.

Why they chose this property

Land and community. Plenty of hiking trails and ski hills. Nelson offers great restaurants and night life.
